Just because he was a first rounder doesn't mean he's one of the best 5. You are taking a + starter at center and downgrading it tremendously to make RT adequate instead of flat out bad.
It's not a good move...the center is important. They need to find a RT for 2022, like they should have going into this season. We are stuck with Solder and Peart unless injuries force a reshuffle.
Unless it is absolutely necessary. Center is such an important position on the line and the Giants cannot afford to have a player there that gets pushed back into the pocket.
I would first give Peart the full time role and deal with the growing pains. If he clearly isn't ready or struggles mightily then I would consider moving Gates there. Hopefully Lemieux is 100% and Bredeson can play center because I feel more comfortable with him than Price at the moment.
This is a minority opinion but I think the tackles will be fine once
they get more snaps in real games ... the bigger OL problem are the guards. I’m still shocked they let Zeitler go bc Hernandez and a gimpy Lemieux are not going to get it done. Let’s start Bredeson at LG and Price at RG and see what they can do. Get Lemieux the surgery he needs now and bring Skura up from the PS for depth at Center ...leave Gates where he is.
One more game with this silly rotation at several spots or ditch it. If no material improvement then go with the below lineup as long as Price can be decent at Center:
LT - Thomas
LG - Lemieux
C - Price
RG - Gates
RT - Peart
Gates is savy enough to hold his own at Guard and help Peart out with things at Right Tackle. That improves two spots.
Do not put Solder back on the field whatsoever unless an OT breaks a leg. And even then, see if he can still tough it out...

Now my wife and children will confirm that this conclusion is probably not too far off, but not for suggesting that maybe Gates (at RT) and Price (OC) on the field at the same time might be a good idea.
