I don't know about you, but the Giants sucking makes me...

lawguy9801 : 9/13/2021 8:27 pm
...not want to watch the NFL at all. There's MNF tonight, and yet I almost couldn't care less. Why watch two teams who will do everything in every facet of the game better than my own team I've watched religiously for 38 years, and reinforce that I'm a fan of a laughingstock?

Even in 2016, I didn’t watch much out of the Giants.

I even missed playoff games.
I've never been this disinterested
LakeGeorgeGiant : 9/13/2021 8:35 pm : link
and I've heard this from a lot of Giants fans.

I havent purchased merchandise in years.

I cant get invested in it.

In recent years I get interested around free agency and draft time, but each year a little less than the one before because nothing changes.
that's why there is gambling and fantasy football

Been a fan for over 30 years…. I am so disinterested in this team as well. Sure the wise guys will say, then don’t watch . But just stop and think about the product that this organization has put on the field over the last 5 years…. Complete garbage!! At what point is enough enough? I won’t waste another sunny fall Sunday this year watching this crap!

I'm going to give them one more chance on Thursday night. If we get a repeat performance of Sunday, I'm done for this year. I have too much stress in my life and too much else going on to devote scarce time and resources to an organization that is infested with nepotism and hopelessly inept.

Used to be a Knick’s fan. Lost interest after years of losing. Haven’t watched an NBA game now in about 15 years. I’ve been through losing seasons. For 10 years now I get excited during the off-season and quickly deflated as each season begins. By mid season I’ve found other that GS to do on Sundays. When they become a winning organization again I’m sure I will still be around but I am not going to spend 3 hours a week disappointed on purpose. I used to be a hardcore fan now I’m casual because my f the terrible product they put on the field.
This team has finally convinced me after 18 seasons of DTV

and NFL Sunday ticket to pull the pull on it all
I'm not going to waste daylight on Sundays watching the Giants I got the game pass and will watch if I decide to. I used to plan my weekend around the Giants games and made my wife crazy. No more

Good news is my handicap is closer to single digits than ever

I concur!

I have zero interest in the NFL today and have felt this way over the last few years. COVID, BLM, and the frustration of watching everybody else get better while we don't has sapped my interest.
My interest in the league generally doesn’t wane
Ned In Atlanta : 9/13/2021 9:21 pm : link
I still obsessively read BBI and other outlets after games, even ones like yesterday. I have found that im less upset after a loss. I think it’s a combination of having two young kids and also realizing the team has been bad for a decade now and my optimism won’t change reality.
I've been a GIANTS fan for 65 years
Red Dog : 9/13/2021 9:21 pm : link
and the way the G-men played on Sunday combined with the way the Bills played on Sunday has left me totally disinterested in the NFL.

For the first time EVER since I've been a BBI member, I didn't even bother to read, or at least skim through all the comments after the game.

I also have to say that the league's political bullshit is really rubbing me the wrong way BIG TIME. Ditto for all the highlight and evaluation shows, the way they now handle the draft, the stinking over-commercialization of the games, and the NFL Network that I have bitched about on here several times in the past.

And I'm not watching MFN or Thursday night any more anyway. Haven't in years unless it was the GIANTS or the Bills.

It's not so much that the GIANTS lost on Sunday either. It's the way they got their ass TOTALLY and COMPLETELY handed to them. For the most part they were not competitive on either offense or defense. At least during the fifteen years of lousy football, one unit or the other was usually pretty entertaining. This team has neither.

I can't really predict the future, but somehow I have the feeling that this will finally be the year that I totally give up on following the NFL. They have nothing that interests me any more.
I’m watching much more college FB

Just recently realized how I’m watching and enjoying more college football while simultaneously not really caring about the NFL.
The team has sucked for a decade
WillVAB : 9/13/2021 9:32 pm : link
If that’s the attitude, then you haven’t watched much football the last 10 years.

Fortunately, there’s still entertainment value with fantasy, DFS, and sports betting.

I don’t see the point getting upset when the team sucks. What’s frustrating is when the team has the bones to be great and underachieves (2008, 2010, etc).
Glad the OP posted this

I have felt the same way the last few years. I was at a cider mill with my wife and son yesterday afternoon and my brother is just texting me and texting me about how bad the Giants are playing. I was just like man, don’t watch. Record it and watch later, enjoy a nice day outside.

As for the poster who said they used to plan their day around the game, me too up until the last few years. This team is just so bad, it’s like watching a MAC team play Alabama. It’s just not fun anymore.

I feel exactly the same way. I've been a G's fan since 1963, I went through the dismal 60's and 70's, but I've lost my appetite for it. I'm not angry or disgusted, I just don't care. I also feel the same way about all the political stuff, and all the highlights and evaluation shows. To me, it all just seems too over the top. I miss the simplicity and sparseness of Summerall and Madden.
Couldn’t agree less
Justlurking : 9/13/2021 10:01 pm : link
The giants have sucked for so long I’m numb to it. I look forward more to seeing professional football teams. I look less and less forward to watching the Giants. The arrogance of this franchise and consistent terrible product is off putting. Watching teams like the Ravens make you appreciate what a real team identity and front office in tune with that can do.
I enjoy my time
cuty suzuki : 9/13/2021 10:11 pm : link
in the parking lot more than ever. Being inside the stadium is at an all time low for me. Every loss with 5000 to 30,000 fans of the visiting team there make it bad.

My focus on Sunday road games isn't strong anymore. I read the Sunday newspaper and am in and out with food on the grill. Road night games are almost something that I feel obligated to watch as opposed to something that I want to watch.

I feel you.. Totally understand and been feeling like this for awhile. But I saw this coming. This GM doesn't know what he is doing. This off-season was strange. The draft was strange. Nothing he has been doing makes much sense..

the thing that bothers me more than anything is that it effects my mood. I mean i was in a terrible mood yesterday, i didnt want to talk to anyone, esp about football.

But I ve always been curious why some come to a board dedicated to Giants football, visited by mostly fans who really have fun with the Giants by getting involved, to tell us you don’t really care about Giants football too much anymore.

Why bother to even come to the site at all?

Not being snarky here, but I have always found posts like this annoying.

I really enjoy Giants football, it s a shared family experience, been that way since I was a kid. I come here to share with other fans of similar ilk,

Had I known the content of this thread, wouldn’t have clicked on it.

gotten into the pre and post game shows etc. Even when we went to the Super Bowl in 2011 my wife and I went for a hike all day and came home got some food ready and flipped on the game around 6. As for the rest of the league it still does interest me watching how things play out with other top level QB's and coaches. I was actually rooting for Brady to beat the Cowboys because we may have a chance late in the year in the division. Who knows? There are weeks in the season where with great fall weather it makes more sense to enjoy that than watch TV all day. The same goes for college games at noon and one. The late day games can be good to check out.
I still look forward to every season

My kids are 13 and 17 and are sports nuts like me so it's a family event. I echo JoeinPa's sentiments. Not the OP but the rest of you posting how you hate football now its baffling that you come and constantly post on a Giants message board dedicated to talking about them. Listen am I frustrated at the last 10 years? It's infuriating. I get too angry especially Sunday. Honestly my anger and yelling was driving everyone nuts so I just got up checked out and took a long walk right after 4th down conversion to put them up 17-7 Sunday. It did a world of good and I'll be back Thursday. I love the team too much. Sure I looked much more forward to it when we were good or at least competitive. We all still watch a ton of football in the house, we had a blast watching the game and the Mannings last night. As for the politics I have no problem with it whatsoever. The players are not robot drones there for my entertainment like the gladiators in the Roman Colosseum. They are human beings, many of whom come from some of the worst living conditions we know of in this country. If they want to use their status to make a change and bring attention to important issues more power to them, even if there are times I don't agree with their position.
I was that way Sunday night

Sneakers O'toole : 9/14/2021 10:47 am : link
I don't watch as much anymore as a result. Still love watching the Giants but there's an emotional connection to that. Other games I'm thinking about what a shit product this has become.
I get sucked in
Harvest Blend : 9/14/2021 10:56 am : link
from March thru August every year but come September I've come to lose interest. It's hard to go through year after year. I don't even know who won probably 5-6 games last weekend.

Having the Bears #1 does keep me sort of up to date on them though.
I don't want to get too personal here
BestFeature : 9/14/2021 12:29 pm : link
But every year when I get my hopes up to get them destroyed that first week I realize how I watch the Giants to fill a void in my life. I feel like my response to the Giants is indicative to my own personal issues. There's no reason to get so worked up about a worthless franchise that plays a sport.
At this phase in my sports-watching life...

I am very thankful for Rosed and Thibidau.

No, the Knicks aren't ready to win championships yet, but:
a) They have a game plan
b) They have young talent, and
c) They have a bunch of players who flat-out love the game.
d) The Garden is well on its way to becoming a basketball "mecca" where stars want to come and play.

I just cannot find that combination of talent, coaching skills, and joy for the game on the Giants. And so I will focus a lot more on the Knicks.
I'm a bit less amped
dlauster : 9/14/2021 1:23 pm : link
overall these days than when I was younger. The rule changes also make me less interested. I was always a big defense guy.

I only watch the Giants

I might watch the Super Bowl with no Giants playing, but I skip as many Super Bowls as I watch.

Don't have to see every Giants game anymore. The radio broadcast and the video highlights later are fine.
