I know the first game of the season sucked scissors, but I just don't believe that with all the steady strides this team has shown, that it could flush itself down the tubes as the whole team starts playing together. I believe they are going to get it right and that this year's iteration of the Giants will keep improving.
Go Giants!
Someone, don’t remember who, posted the same thing to me back in 2011, about the Giants that season.
However, I m not saying you re wrong this time. I will state however, while it s difficult to see past the most recent performance of any team, sometimes that team by the end of the year is so much better than anyone could have imagined.
That was my first reaction too. What strides? It was the same old shit just some different players.

And sometimes shit remains shit all season.
If it makes people feel better to "believe" that's fine, but there's nothing wrong with saying I'll believe it when I see it. And we haven't seen it around here for a long time.
EPT***
I hope JG can call some more creative plays/routes, however. Would love to have somehow been able to retain Shurmur as the OC when Judge took over...
Well done
You're eating maggots Michael, how do they taste?
I'm also not expecting 0-5 (we had a lot of things going against us last yr that aren't this yr), but I believe it's a reason for optimism to remember that after that horrible start last year, we went 6-5 the rest of the year (including a close loss to eventual champs) and 5-3 in the last 8. I believe that shows that Judge and staff didn't lose the team and they continued to improve.
We have more talent and experience than last yr. Hopefully the D plays like we expect and the O doesn't wait until the 2nd half to get Golladay involved and in about 13 days, we'll be 2-1. Then we can put week 1 in the rearview mirror.
you are basing this off of one game where most of the weapons this was their first game on the field...
I expect more of a Fassel - Sean Payton situation, i.e., Fassel didn't fire Payton.
Garrett is no Columbo and out of respect for him (and Mara), I don't expect Garrett to be fired, but I can see the play calling duties being transferred to Kitchens and Garrett being re-assigned to another position (even if one is made up and then he moves on after the season). This would cause much less drama and hurt feelings.

I doubt they will always be as bad as they were last week, but can I say with a straight face that this team has a chance to win the the division? Injuries aside, I have a hard time envisioning them pulling that off, outside of some unexpected collapse from others. We are a clear 4th in the running, IMO.

You people never run out of excuses. Now it's that they didn't have enough time together in the preseason. And in a month when Shepard and/or Golladay miss time with an injury there will be that excuse. Then when they come back there will be rust. Then they'll put it together offensively for 1-2 games late in the season and you'll all say the arrow is pointing up for next year, thus continuing the cycle.

I mean, in fairness SB hadn't played a game in 12 months, Golladay missed the last 11 games (?) of last year, Rudolph couldn't do much over the summer due to the surgery, Toney is brand new to the NFL and wasn't able to do much over summer. I do think it's understandable that they'd need a game or 2 to start to come together. Golladay even said as much a week or 2, that the offense may start slowly due to all of the above.
Spot on. I saw people on here posting comparing the situation to the Packers week 1 blowout. I'm all for being optimistic but it isn't just "1 week" with this offense. Frankly its been the majority of Jones pro and college career.
I hope I'm wrong but quarterbacks don't traditionally completely turn around the things he is bad at.
I agree. The people that harp on almost making the playoffs and "5-3 to end the season!" were fooling themselves.

The Giants keep feeding us shitburgers and some of you insist that it's ribeye.

It is not an excuse when it is the truth

No one said or implied that at all. That insistence is all in your mind. In fact I have written multiple times that this last game was an abomination. I'm shrugging it off, because I just just don't believe that things are going to be as bleak going forward. There are ample reasons to believe this team is going to improve.
Amen
to be fair in 07 and 11 did you think those teams would win the superbowl? hell no, after week 2 im sure you had the same reaction you had after week 1 this year..
hell in 2011 there were posts here saying they hooed the team missed the playoffs because they would just lose round 1...
Do i think this team is going to superbowl? no, do i think they can make the playoffs? yes..
the point of bringing up 07 is simply to say it is week 1

So you knew after week 2 when they got blown out at home that theu were going to make the playoffs? BS
no one said this team is winning the superbowl, simply stating you have no idea what this team is after 1 week

The 2007 team scored 35 points on the toted week 1.
We know what this team is because Sunday was the same exact performance we’ve seen for 4 years.
2007 Giants were a good football team with a decent coach. They were very inconsistent. THey had there lags and droughts and go on losing streaks. They were injured. They also had big time come from behind wins against good teams in tough hard fought games. That is not the same as this team at all. They were NOT ready to play Sunday. This team has been a bad football team for years now. And have not improved at all really. The defense looked JV. Daniel Jones is still bird dogging receivers and fumbling. barkley shown to be all hype. You would think one thing would bail them out.
Those teams had talent and great coaching back then. Eli threw a touchdown on his first pass of the year in 2007. Maybe second or third throw. I cannot remember.
I knew the defense would get itself together. No way they would play that bad. Dallas and Green Bay we're good. Getting spanked by Denver makes absolutely no sense.
Same thing with 2011. Hakeem Nicks was such an outstanding player. I miss having a player like him on the roster.
One egg is way bigger than the other here. Whatever the hell that means, I don't know. You figure it out. Jones is not Eli Manning and never will be.
What we have to hope and pray, is that they know that, and bail on him earlier rather than later. We stuck with Eli about 2 years too long.
They have to get another QB on the roster next year whether it’s a draft pick or a free agent.

What the heck would the giants done if they did bail on him on 2 years earlier? Bring in a journeyman to groom Darnold?
More importantly they were 19-13 prior to that 07 season, under Coughlin.

Id rather believe in the team and enjoy the games as they come.
You enjoyed yesterday?

Pro tip, don’t do that.

I did!
You enjoyed that the team lost?
But, I got to head to a nice sportsbar with my wife and have a few pops.
A few of my players showed up as well…which was cool.
I wasn’t asked specifically about the game. That was a shit show.

Jones will never and should never reach that point here. Actually, he's been here 2 years too long, already.
He seems like a decent "kid", athlete, and I wanted him to thrive here. He just stinks.
Same thing with Engram. Where is the written law that says we should stick with these players for so long? We just have to watch the Giants keep losing with the same players for such a long time? It's not working. I'm very confident in the fact that Jones will run off somewhere and be Tom Brady. Or well even, Matt Stafford, Matt Ryan, Philip Rivers. etc. I do not watch many non-Giant games anymore but when I turn on those games there is light years difference between Jones and those guys listed above.
Jones is 8-19 or something awful as a starter with half of those wins comprised of wins against one team, lol.
