“They can’t evaluate their own players. They over-judge their own players. They’re not good,” Lombardi said. “They’re not even good on D. Everybody thinks, ‘well, we’re good on defense,’ — they gave up 420 yards!”
“There’s no imagination. ... I mean, there’s no design in the running game. The Clapper refuses to design a run game, this is just not a misdemeanor. But look, the Giants have been bad for five years. They’re 28th in win percentage over the last five years, they’re 26th over the last 10 years. This isn’t just a one-time thing. ... It’s one of the worst offenses to watch, and you’re not helping the quarterback.”
“John Mara is one of the nicest human beings on planet earth. Unfortunately, John Mara can’t have an honest conversation about his organization or evaluate himself. That’s just a problem. It’s just a hard thing. He’s loyal to people, he likes people. They’re stuck in time. They can’t get out of it.”

I, for one, cannot properly hear and interpret a podcast. Perhaps there are others among us.
Smart man that Michael Lombardi.
OK, but is he actually wrong?
Sounds like it's coming from a Patriot guy,because I didn't see one for the coach who challenges a scoring play.
Sadly....He is right.

hates the Giants, specifically Gettleman, and has been talking shit about us ever since he came on board.

They were 12th in D last year. 12th!! One game goes by now the D isn’t any good? That’s a little bit much me thinks.

It’s not one game, bar the defense not showing up (which despite the overall ranking actually happened a few times last season), that first game was a continuation of the issues of last year except last year we could actually run a bit.
Lombardi is a blowhard but he’s mostly right about this.
Quote:
When Michael Lombardi speaks, the NFL better listen. After all, Lombardi’s front office career included tours with Bill Walsh (San Francisco 49ers), Al Davis (Oakland Raiders) and Bill Belichick (New England Patriots), some of the best and brightest minds in league history.

I mean this board uses similar reasoning for why they have to keep Getteman and he knows what he’s doing.
Whatever u want to call it. All around a real crappy game, especially 2nd half
I expect and feel pretty confident we will see more
We are gonna beat the wft Thursday, d will turn it up a notch ( or two)
Pretty disappointing Sunday...but after all it is WEEK 1. Every talking head feels the need to speak in absolutes. Like they have the drop that no one else has. Kinda silly. It makes them look more like a sensationalist than an analyst. The NYG looked like hot garbage in their first 2 games of 2006 - and we all know how SB 42 turned out.
it's only one game, there are 16 left;
what happened before this year does not matter;
Jones needs more time with his new weapons;
John Wilkes Booth was even in Ford's Theater that evening;
The shots came from behind that fence on the knoll.
What did he say that was inaccurate? When you can't argue the message, you attack the messenger.
Look, I think Lombardi can be overly hard on the Giants, maybe because they didn't hire him, or because he's a Philly fan, but he is spot on with everything he has said. We are on our 3rd coaching regime since our last playoff appearance. Ownership showed some out of the box thinking with the Judge hire, but forced him to work with a long-time Giant GM who has shown little ability to evaluate talent.
The problem starts at the top. The Mara's can't fire themselves, but they can bring in outside voices to run team operations.
Hire one of his kids like Matt Rhule and he will slurp all day, even if he's barely squeaking out wins vs. the jets.
What's funny is he was an all things Pats/Joe Judge fan...right up until Mara hired him and went against his "the giants have no idea what they're doing" storyline. He's not wrong about Garrett though.
He may hate the Giants and Gettleman but is his critique wrong?
This after spending big FA money on Bradbury, Jackson, Williams, Martinez and Ryan.
And on offense the Giants could only manage 7 pts. and 171 total yards until garbage time... after spending big on Golladay (only one target until the 4th Q) and having three top 10 draft picks on offense.
That's what non-fans see. We shouldn't be pissed when they think something very very wrong is happening here.
suck big time.
What's the big deal?
I don't know about that. The Giants had a top 10 defense in 2016 and we saw how things turned around in 2017. It's a possibility that the defense will not be as good as last year. We will see.
However, the Giants issues on Sunday did stem from the defense not being able to get off the field on 3rd and 4th down.
That, mixed with the offense squandering the few opportunities they had with conservative play call, was a recipe for disaster.
In any case, it is very easy to criticize the Giants right now. Doesn't take any great insight. Hell, he isn't saying anything that isn't said 1000 times a day on BBI.
The last 10 years has been just about as bad as any stretch in franchise history. It’s about time people are held accountable, and quite frankly, they deserve all the negative press they receive.

Does he actually have an axe to grind? He’s right. Whatever the motivations are, are irrelevant
So, why not bring up the 1970s while he's at it?
Ok, well unfortuantely he's right. Since Gettlmen took over the Giants have consistently been one of the first worst teams in the league
It's not like his opinion is Bill Polian.
It doesn't mean he's wrong.
You watch other teams play, even bad ones, and their offense looks much more crisp on a play-by-play basis.
The Giants O struggles to execute anything. (Everything's a grind.) It doesn't even look like they practice. There is something terribly wrong.

This, and I’m sick of hearing about new players, lack of continuity, etc. Even the Lions put up points this week, albeit some of it was in garbage time. They have a new QB, one new running back, and all new wide receivers and they were able to actually score points.
I didn’t place too much judgement on Garrett last year because I thought the team was lacking in weapons. But they brought in multiple players and looked worse on Sunday than they did late last year.
There's very little Daniel Jones does that above average. Actually her is probably only one thing. He runs well, he's fast, not very elusive but fast. The Giants have Barkley who the other team keys on especially when they know he's on a pitch count. Why wouldn't the Giants run that play or something like it? Where are the clear outs or the mis directions? Where is anything but run to the sticks and turn around or run an in cut? It's unbelievable. No one has been supportive of Joe Judge than I have but now this is on him. If Mara won't let him fire Garett he should quit at this point.

It is what they should have done the first time Toney took the field. Everyone and their mother knew he was getting the ball, it would have been a kick in Denver's ass if he hadn't.
1 game? did you watch last season? or the one before that or...oh nevermind.
