Literally nobody thinks we can win this game

Essex : 9/16/2021 11:15 am
I was reading the Athletic prediction and every "expert" picked Washington. On Espn, I think it was 8 of 11 picking the WFT.

The one thing that is usually worse than the Giants are so called "football experts" who predict games.

So we got that going for us!

Oh. Okay
So the majority of experts is picking Washington

That’s not literally everybody.

My response? What do you expect? Going off the team record over the last 3 years, the NYG are the NFL’s doormat.

If we lose, I expect most prognosticators to pick Atlanta to beat us next Sunday too.

Dave in Hoboken : 9/16/2021 11:27 am : link
the Giants are the only team not have a winning record even for a single week...in 4 seasons. I get that there are different players on the team, but the stench of the past 4 (hell, make that a decade) is still very much here. The coaching is awful (that includes Judge), the GM is a joke, and the players suck ass.
game is easily winnable
hitdog42 : 9/16/2021 11:32 am : link
i mean FFS they are playing the redskins with no QB.

a few simple but obvious things needed to be done
1) run north south
2) chip the edge rushers and then release to flat or arrow
3) throw open KG
4) make WFT have to account for Jones in running game
5) do not allow simple man beaters across the middle--- the QB isn't great, make him make great throws.
6) contain logan thomas.

none of these are big asks. they are not playing a great opponent.
It shows that we already know --the organization has lost credability
UberAlias : 9/16/2021 11:33 am : link
We aren't getting that back until we put a quality product on the field and win some football games. The perception is that we're stuck in the past. DG doesn't help things with his pompous air and "I'm the smartest guy in the room" attitude as he makes one controversial selection after another, none of which have yet to pay dividends.

It was about 15 of 18 and "literally" really wasn't the point (but 15 of 18 is not really just a majority), it was the Carl Spackler line from Caddyshack. It was a joke. Obviously, not a good one.

As to 8 of 11 "experts" going with WFT, what for you expect? We've been dogshit for 4 years, and 8 of the last 9. Granted, WFT has hardly lit the world on fire, but they've been better. You want to shut people up? Win some games.

and I didnt see any experts pick the Giants to beat Denver

Part of me was happy because i was thinking of the 2007 playoff run when no one picked the Giants to win any of the playoff games or the SB and they won every one.

HOWEVER, they were all right, because not only did the Giants not beat Denver, they were downright awful.

So when i see people on TV picking the Giants to lose, i think to myself, that person just wants to be good at their job....

I am not complaining about being imprecise; I was and have 0 problem admitting it. I am complaining about the obtuse focus on that when that plainly was not the point. The entire post was about the media being so wrong that maybe we got shot tonight (not that it was a serious point anyway but whatever).

I hope you’re right. I watched the WFT game and that back up QB wasn’t that bad. Compare him to DJ and your delta between the two isn’t that far off. Our D needs to play lights out.

bw in dc : 9/16/2021 11:50 am : link
The fact that Vegas has WFT 3.5 point favorites with Heinicke at QB is something I find surprising. Especially because the Giants have owned WFT the last few years.

I don't like our OL versus WFT's DL. On the other hand, I don't like Heinicke against our D.

So...toss up.

UberAlias : 9/16/2021 11:53 am : link
The country will be watching.

Daniel Jones has to make plays when they're available and and not fuck it up. The defense has to show up, prove they can get off the field on 3rd down, and force a couple turnovers. The offense has to protect the QB, not turn the ball over, and score TDs in the red zone.

I am tired of all the analysis "wasn't his fault" type of bull shit excuses that have been made over and over for the past decade. Either things have changed, or they haven't. Who gives a shit what the media, fans, or the fat slob noodle wearing a Philly/Dallas jersey says or thinks. There is nowhere to hide anymore. No excuses "the refs robbed us" BS. I didn't think we'd be here this early in the year, yet here we are. Put up or go home.
Good!
mattlawson : 9/16/2021 12:00 pm : link
Then only is that what they deserve after that first game, but that’s exactly the kind of mentality I want for this team as they head into a very critical year. I want everybody thinking there’s no way they could possibly do it. That’s what build a team mentality that has one before in New York, it’s us against the world.

I want every so-called expert looking at Dallas and the Eagles thinking it’s their division to lose and the Giants are competing with themselves for last place.

Talk is cheap, play the game. Hopefully this perception help them build around each other and develop some grit so at least we can start seeing what we used to call Giants football
Why would anyone who saw the Giants play Sunday pick them to win?
ZogZerg : 9/16/2021 12:07 pm : link
This team looked like hot Garbage.

The D can't stop a college team and the O is a mess.

The skins have a top defense and plenty of weapons on offense to put up more than enough points to win.

And rush their qb. Two huge deficiencies the giants demonstrated, in their home opener…they came out flat, and stayed there. Out played, out coached with a miserable predictable game plan on both sides of the ball…that gotta change, to get a W.

would mean not one person in the known universe thinks the Giants can win. Do you really believe that? No, you don't.

It's not news that so-called experts don't watch every game
sb from NYT Forum : 9/16/2021 12:40 pm : link
...they are just like everyone else; they look at highlights, a team's record, etc. and make a snap decision.

So they see a bunch of lowlights, see a team that was 6-10 last season get curb-stomped by a team that was 5-11 last year, they see that even without Fitzpatrick, Washington scored more points last week than the Giants did, and make their prediction based on that.

They are not looking under the hood, so to speak. The betting lines are probably more accurate than the talking heads; WFT by 3 at home is basically a tossup.

The Giants have not done anything to be favorites over WFT
Mike from Ohio : 9/16/2021 12:42 pm : link
It is not hard to argue that the Giants are talent-wise worse on both sides of the ball, and don't have an edge in coaching either.

Given that, why would you expect a majority of people to pick the Giants to win on the road?

And I am guessing the OP is looking for a majority? It is difficult to tell what is expected when he misused the first word in his post.

That we beat them by 1 with Kyle Allen at QB only because they went for 2 instead of kicking to tie it and then by 3, in a game we probably should have lost as well?

It’s not like we dominated them with backup QBs last year.

Massive anti-Giants conspiracy
Why would anyone pick the Giants to win this game or any game?
Vin_Cuccs : 9/16/2021 2:01 pm : link
I'm not trying to provoke or be hyperbolic, but since 2017, the Giants have been the worst team in the league with a 18 and 46 record, and a -372 point differential.

I am done viewing this team optimistically. Fans (myself included) are convinced that this team is capable of more. Why do we think that way? The national media, and local reporters have been saying this team is terrible for quite some time, and we all try to dispute it. In reality, they are viewing the team in an unbiased fashion.

If this team wants to gain some national respect, they have to win. And to be brutally honest, I don't know if they can.

What in the world has this team done in the last 4 years to inspire any confidence at all they they are capable of winning an important game?

One game. Was it bad? Hell yes. It was the first game, preseason included that the 1st string offense was on the field, It was not long ago (couple of weeks) that most of you were very psyched about all of the new players we got in the off-season. They have a lot of proven talented players. They will get significantly better as the season progresses. This is no time to quit on this team. We're all tired of being disappointed, but there is light at the end of the tunnel. It doesn't make sense that they would be worse than last year.
