I feel bad for the young fans

Eric from BBI : Admin : 9/17/2021 1:39 am
I've been through the up-and-down roller coaster. But I still got to experience 1984-1990, 1997, 2000, 2007-2011.

It's the young fans like my kids who have to suffer through this crap.

My 18-year old son has no idea what its like to root for a good Giants football team. And he has to hear it from other fans all of the time.

My daughter was actually really excited about tonight's game too. All she has known is the team losing.
Your boy was 9 when we last won a Super Bowl....no?
George from PA : 9/17/2021 1:43 am : link
Just let him know how old you must be to have watch Dallas or WFT win one.
He’ll get over it. I was 5 in 1991 and honestly don’t remember much.

First real memory I think was LTs last game as a wash up in SF playoff game. I had ducking posters of Kent Graham and Dave Brown in my room for Christ sakes. Our time is coming very soon I believe or at least contender. Judge needs to wake the fuck up soon or he’ll have to wait a few more years. I still believe this team will make the playoffs if Judge can look at the tape objectively at his performance.
Same here

My 14 y/o son was an infant in ‘07 and only 4 y/o in ‘11. So he never felt either of those. He saw me chunk my shoe at the wall in the ‘16 GB playoff loss. And it’s been worse and worse ever since. Plus, we’re in Mississippi, so all his friends rag the shit out of him about him following such a boring, consistently shitty and uninspiring team. I did this to him, too. Uggh.

Joe Judge is a good young coach, who is learning a lot of hard lessons right now. Doesn’t excuse his mistakes, but it does explain them.

The Giants will know after this year if Jones and Barkley are cornerstones or not. They will know more about a lot of guys — Engram, Peppers, Carter.

What the Giants are learning right now (and frankly a lot of fans on this site) — is that things don’t magically get better because it’s your turn, or why not us.

It takes lots and lots of good decisions. Over the last four years they haven’t made enough. But it’s finally becoming clear, if not together.

They don’t get into it and I can’t make them endure this. Their experience of Giants is mostly me cursing at the screen. They’ll one to check in and ask “who’s winning?” Almost never us. They asked “are they ever going to be good?” How can I get them into a team that’s been crap their whole lives? I at least had the Giants get LT about their age. One liked OBJ but, he’s gone.

It sucks. I want to call them over and watch together, but it’d be child abuse

Yeah. This is the worst. No one alive here today should have to hear the "back in the day they were bad and we knew hard times" nonsense anymore. That's done with it.

No. They're bad now. I'm 35 years old and everything this team has produced after 2011 has been dog SHIT. We've had some really are some unlikeable players and coaches. The next joker they bring in to coach makes the previous look like a genius.

Tired of these fucking losers. Mara. The coaches. Dumb ass strategies. Idiot players. Bad drafting.
I do too

They are rooting for an organization that has been making decisions based on concepts and people that are no longer relevant to playing good football in 2021...

- establishing the run
- Hog Mollies
- Jason Garrett
- Ernie Accorsi
- drafting a running back second overall
- nepotism
- the hand of God
- hiring "four computer guys"
- sadly, Eli Manning

This current iteration of the Giants is built on these things, and the results have been catastrophic. I've been saying this shit on this board for years.
Well, I was 20 in 1981 when…
Mcphedge : 9/17/2021 3:24 am : link

…the Giants finally made the playoffs (first time I saw them do it)
…then Ray Perkins headed to Tuscaloosa late in ‘82 strike shortened year
…Then, in my senior year in college, Bill Parcells leads our rag-tag-injured crew to a 3-12-1 season… the highlight was a 20-20 OT tie with St Louis Cardinals… ugly…
…it wasn’t until I was in graduate school, living in England that the “real” turnaround began in ‘84…
…patience kids

But, worse than anything else, drafting a QB from a school that is far, far superior to UMaryland.

Great post, and I'd like to agree with it, but I'm not sure the higher-ups of this organization ever really learn the hard lessons. I'm sure the fans of the Raiders, Lions, Texans, Dolphins, and even Cowgirls said the same things a decade ago...and yet, they're no closer to winning a SB than the Giants. When non-football people run a football team and surround themselves with "yes" people, things dont change quickly, if ever.

Put those last two paragraphs on a billboard outside MetLife. That’s all that needs to be said.

Pathetic franchise at the moment.

These first two games were winnable, the schedule gets tougher.

Until proven otherwise Jones won’t play like this more often than not so where is this team getting their wins from?

You are so right on this. I have 2 13 year olds who have no interest anymore and a 7 year old who is hanging in there but I’m afraid he won’t last. This was supposed to be the year he finally saw them be competitive. It’s hard not to be disappointed so far. More for the kids than me. This just isn’t a fun experience so how can you even convince kids to invest time in this? My family has asked me repeatedly why I watch them when they are terrible and it just makes me sad. lol. They have a point.
Jesus fucking christ
PakistanPete : 9/17/2021 7:04 am : link
Sounds more like you're feeling bad for yourself.
.....
Micko : 9/17/2021 7:12 am : link
Fuck off?

Yeah, I’m disappointed. Wanted to ensure watching football became a family thing so I wasn’t sitting alone away from the family. Giants have ensured that’s not going to happen. Apologies if that lost on you.
i feel bad
hitdog42 : 9/17/2021 7:16 am : link
i told my daughter (born in December 2012)- that the giants have stunk since she was born.
I thought i was expressing sadness for her watching, but i think given how sh$t they have been i was blaming her lol

My bad if that came across aimed at you.

But I come from a Giants/Mets/Islanders/Knicks family.

We do all right and actually manage to smile!
Named my 1st born Eli after our last SB.
penkap75 : 9/17/2021 7:26 am : link
He is 9 and does not give a shit about the Giants even though he knows he is named after #10 and daddy gets pissed off every sunday.
Me too
Matt M. : 9/17/2021 7:28 am : link
But, Eric, at 18 he doesn't know? What about the SB? My son is turning 17 and he remembers the 2011 SB vividly and fondly. Now, since then there hasn't been sustained success, so maybe that's what you are referring to.

I feel like our generation, I think you are about the same age as me, was spoiled, looking back. I missed the 70s as a fan. I started watching in 1980, so I started as they were getting good and while I waited, I had LT every week. By the mid-80s they were a consistently good team in contention virtually every year through about 1993. They had a few bad years in the 90s, but not sustained bad. Hell, even Fassell's worst years were enveloped by good ones. Coughlin's era was mostly good and saw 2 SBs. But, since that last SB, they've had 2 winning seasons out of 9, 1 playoff game. It's been, by far, the shittiest stretch in my lifetime (or at least time as a fan).
My son is 14.
Dinger : 9/17/2021 8:05 am : link
He was 9 months old and 4 years old when they won Superbowls so I tell him he's got two in his lifetime. I had to wait until I was 17. He's really into the Giants (and Yankees) and each season he winds up losing his sh*t early in the season during the games. By mid season, he watches and makes snarky comments and really just turns on the NFL network. Last night after the TD at the end of half time he went on a wild rant and I felt bad that he's a Giants fan by birth. Honestly, I think we will avoid watching games as it ruins our days and evenings and we get pissed at each other at times. I wanted to write Mara last night and explain how he's losing a generation of fans. But if there's any justice somehow Mara will be hurt in his purse where I know it matters to him the most.
I'm with you Eric

My daughter is 17 and has always been a sports nut, my son is 13 and has really gotten into it the last 4 years or so. I've turned them into lunatics just like me. They're not even greedy. They don't talk championship, they just want a shot at the godamn playoffs. What a night last night. They scream like banchees when he misses the kick. It's 11:30, the wife comes down from a sleep screaming at us ready to commit a homicide. Then during all this we're trying to process the penalty, and he hits the re-kick. What a godamn debacle.
At least we had the outlier year of 2016!

My son didn't used to get too into games, but that's changed in the past few years. He's 13 now, and while he's always had a child's optimism while watching the games, he's starting to absorb my cynicism about the Giants, and that's sad to me.

Giants fan was 1986. I feel bad for you posters that missed that. They were inevitable and played like champions all season. Then demolished all comers in the playoffs.

What a great team that was.

Who would have thought that when Dez Bryant’s fingertip touched the white in Dallas, it would be the last real positive feeling for what is going on a decade of garbage.

I'm surprised their record is that good. I thought it'd be far worse.

Same exact thing in my house. My daughter has engulfed the cynicism hook line and sinker. My son totally had that optimism even heading into this season but has now slowly joined us in the land of the miserable skeptics.
