I have heard people on this site say he's better than Aaron Donald (an absolutely absurd assertion). It's clear we do not have good edge rushers. This guy is a top 5 (maybe 3) paid DL in the league. Where was he last night???
Wrong but I cannot recall one poster claiming he was better than Donald
Buck and Aikman said he was as good as Donald during the game and compared their stats: Donald had more sacks, Williams more hits, both equal in tackles for loss.

I don't recall them saying he was as good, they said his statistics were as good. Not the same thing.
but I have not seen anyone say Leonard Williams is better than Aaron Donald on this board, and the graphic in last night's game also simply showed the kind of year Williams had last year with no suggestion that Williams is as good as Donald.
That said, Williams has been pretty much invisible these first 2 games aside from a TFL against Denver. If you look at Williams, Martinez, Bradberry, these guys were all playing at or near an All-Pro level last season. So far this year, they haven't come close to that level of performance.
That, once he got his big contract, he would revert back to the player he was with the Jets. Decent but nothing special. It's only two games, but so far it's looking like that is happening.
I guess I see it differently but to me Williams has been the
invisible the entire game- no push up the middle pass rush- which is what bothers a QB.
only time we saw either was on the last play of the game--- awesome

a lot. That was a huge loss and Johnson and Shelton are a very significant drop off. I think that is limiting LW a lot.
LW had a very good year last year. The difference between Williams and Donald is everyone game plans around limiting Donald and he still puts up those numbers. When Williams is the focus he can't do that.
Strahan had some seasons that had fans calling him $trahan. I do not know a lot about line play, but it seems to me that line play can be tricky to grade if other players are not pulling their weight.
Is going to get destroyed on this site because that’s what people do here. Dexter Lawrence gets a free pass. This guy was a mid first round pick whose impact has been minimal. I am tired of hearing it’s the position he plays and his numbers are going to suffer for that reason. He has been MIA the first 2 weeks. He needs to be a difference maker on the Dline. To this point that hasn’t happened.
I would say a player going soft after a contract extension would show a lack of hustle and/or concentration. Talented players that do their job with good effort will eventually get their statistics.
sorry, but this one annoys me. WHAT THE FUCK were the Giants supposed to do here? LEt Williams walk? HE didn't play at an elite level in 2020? He wasn't disruptive in 10 or so games in 2019, sack numbers be damned? It's not like the guy went from a zero to a hero over night. He was always solid with the Jets and even made a pro bowl.
We're two games in and now we want to ship this guy outta here too I see. He's the only impact player up front, but no sacks in two games means he's dogging it. Cmon already.
Guys don't just stop trying in the NFL because they finally got paid. It rarely happens. This isn't MLB or the NBA. Williams is in top shape. You'd see the signs, guess what, they aren't any.
He got his sacks in bunches last year. He will get his this year.
Maybe the secondary could cover someone for longer than 3 seconds. Just a thought.
I’m reversing myself. His play down the stretch was very disappointing & he was taking plays off. His physical conditioning may not be up to lady seasons. He looked gassed, often. TNF sucks.
This was after a strong first half, where he was being doubled constantly, in the earlier part of the game, the stoutness of the defense with LW on the field was noticeably stronger than when was out.
For the Graham critics, replay the WFT rushing TD in the first half. What kind of defensive formation was that to stop a goalline play? Running it in must have been the easiest play of the day for Washington.

Said it in another thread. They ran prevent defense at the goal line.

The fear with williams is they overreacted to a career-best year. The contract is fine if he becomes consistently excellent. It isn't just one game. Look how he played at the end of last season during the "playoff stretch".
As to his whereabouts last night, Ereck Flowers is his alibi.
Both Lawrence and Williams seemed to get very little push.

There was always the risk that he settles back in to just being a good player that plays very average. And maybe that is what we are seeing.

Why do people lie just to make a point?

Yup, hard to take seriously.

Too soon!!!
