my conversation with my wife this morning was just as productive. Had to try not to swear (more than once). She accepted "the defense played like shit". - again
but that picture clearly shows it wasnt a "drop", it is an extremely difficult catch. Maybe he catches it a handful of times but it definitely wasnt a gimme like the announcers seem to be.
The ball hit his fingers/fingertips and never hit his hands. Going full speed nearly 50 yards downfield? I have a hard time blaming anyone. Maybe Slayton could have dove? Extended further? Not sure.
Engrams pass last year hit both his hands - I find it not nearly the same situation.
and there's QBs that make a better throw in that spot. Maybe a better ofensive line gives Jones time to make a more accurate throw? Maybe we need better players?
More time? Jones has three seconds to throw the ball. He even stepped into the pocket.
It was a good ball. It could have had a bit more air, but it was catchable. Slayton gave it a good effort. He just got into one of those situations where it was a 50/50 ball...right on the very edge of his catching radius.
1. I thought it was a line drive pass that could only have been caught if Slayton laid out full extension and that would have made it difficult to hang onto the ball when he hit the ground.
2. If Jones had to do it over again or if he had another nanosecond I think he would have put some air under the pass, in other words, lofted it more since no one else was in the vicinity and only Slayton could have gotten to it.

I agree with #2. The pass needed a touch more air and then it's a guaranteed six. More similar to the pass Carr threw Monday night in overtime to Jones for the game winner.
The coverage was so blown by WFT - probably Landon Collins, a horrible pass defender - that I think it actually threw the timing off by just a fraction...
Seems to me like Jones didn’t make a good enough throw. I don’t absolve Slayton, I think he could have laid out but it was always going to be a tough catch. Remember too, Slayton was the 171 overall and Jones was the 6. Even an under thrown ball there would have worked. Just not good enough. By either player. But putting this all on the Slaymaker is a mistake. A better QB makes a better throw.
Is the following Washington drive..Tyler fucking Heinecke throws one out of reach of a fairly no name WR in Donovan Peoples-Jones and the dude does a 360 whirling dirvish/pirhouette in the back of the endzlne and catches the ball with a defender standing on his face, then still manages to get his tippy toes in and maintain posession.
It's the Giants way to have our guy drop one off his fingertips when no one is within 20 yards and then 3 min later their guy makes a spinning circus catch with a defender on his nuts.
I honestly don't know what the scouts look for in their Edge players. Ojulari's probably the most talented of a below average bunch, and he's got some tools and time to grow. But, I saw the standing around and not pursuing the ball too. None of them do anything particularly well, which makes it damned difficult to build a legit, playoff caliber 3-4 base scheme.
is Slayton needs to be running full tilt throughout the route, not hit the gas after the pass is released and he realizes it's gonna be a bit long. If he runs throughout the route, he's there for an easier catch. Young player bad habit.
This is true, he realizes at about the 15 yard line he needs to go - you can see it..
Slayton had his head turned for 25 yards. Hard to reach top speed when you are looking behind you.
Agree, and also Slayton didn't turn on the jets until he saw the pass was coming to him. You can see it clear as day in that video.
He doesn't.
Slayton - ( New Window )
He doesn't. Slayton - ( New Window )
Looks to me like he kicks it in a higher gear around the 5 yardline. Subtle, but that's what I see.
If he catches it and Gano makes PAT, 30-20 6:20 left. Defense blew a 10
pt. lead in a similar time frame last season at Philly.
No guarantee we still don’t lose 34-30 or something like that.

Tell me where Slayton slows down please.

Slayton never slows down at all in the route.

I don't think anyone said he slowed down. They (and I) pointed out that he didn't run all-out until after he knew the ball was coming to him.

With his catching radius, I think so.
Although his speed may still be a bit compromised by the hamstring...
I don't think he slowed down either.
