Really tired of this drill: A 2nd round draft pick Defensive Tackle's rookie contract is up. You know what that means. It's time to cut bait with our number #2 DT and draft another one in the second round.
Oh wait we didn't do that this year. This year they cut bait and hired castaway scrubs.
WhooHoo! That's progress, right?
Who do I want? How about a better GM who didn't fuck up the cap to the point we couldn't afford both?
He is better than Blake Martinez. And how did Bradbury and Jacksonnlook last night?

Both Tomlinson and Adoree Jackson have almost identical $6m cap hits. Your choice. Who do you want.

The cap shrunk because of COVID. No one could have or did plan for that. And they had a great FA signing period in spite of that.
Now this is a good thought. I wanted Engram gone as well and that would have paid for Tomlinson.
The Giants are weird. Bad weird. I have no doubt that Mara has some fuct up, warped viewpoints when it comes to football. He makes moves for all the wrong reasons and when he needs to make a move he makes the wrong one.
Does anyone doubt that one day we might learn that Belichick wanted to come back here sometime over the last decade and Mara said no? Just wait for that gem to surface when the bodies are buried. Just wait. Mara is a fucking weirdo owner.
That’s what’s being lost. DG goes out and gets the players the DC wants and the scheme stays exactly the same. Mind boggled. How about the DC calls games like we just bought him his second corner he wanted. The players aren’t the problem right now.
And that falls on Graham.

you don't have to look very far into the past to see various moves by DG that negatively affected our cap space this year. The point is - they could have had more cap space.
I was crowing about keeping tomlinson in the offseason, so I'm a fan, but this isn't simply a case of "Player _ isn't here anymore, he must have been invaluable".
Coaches are doing a poor job, and defensive leaders are not producing to their salaries.

have Dalvin and cap space instead of our expensive new corner.
If we aren't going to play man, then sure.
Everyone will point to Dalvin Tomlison as the 2020 savior of the defense but in reality its the coverage sacks that hit last year vs. the lack of them so far this year. And if we had Tomlinson we'd still likely have a gaping hols at CB2 so we'd be giving up points just the same.
and with Dalvin Tomlinson last year

we let up 27ppg and 123 rushing yards per game through our 1st 3 games of the season. Some food for thought.
The problem, as others have stated, is that Gettleman has zero attention to detail and his comical mismanagement of the roster tied up our cap space. Think about it - we suck, we basically have no good players, and we have a rookie scale QB - and we're still tight against the cap. It's really remarkable.
but at some point you have to add to your core players instead of replacing them. And expending a 2nd rounder every couple of years is not an insignificant use of resources.
But I think there could be something to the concept. If you believe that run stopping DT is a lower value skill that is easier to replace, then it might be wise to cycle through them. Doing this with RBs is obvious and there are probably other places where it makes sense.
Of course this iteration of the Giants should have had enough cap space to keep Tomlinson but DG pays zero attention to detail, so here we are
