Somehow there's no camera angle down the line, but it looked very very close, and although he moved slightly before the ball he seemed to have lifted up rather than lunge forward.
plus, if you move at all BEFORE the ball is snapped in that situation, they will call you on it. STUPID play on his part. Undisciplined and boneheaded.
Without seeing the line view this doesnt show anything. He can move before the ball does as long as he doesnt cross the line, or am I misinterpreting the rule?
Was that I think I heard them say the flag came from the back judge or someone behind the line. If so, WTF? It should be the linesman or line judge throwing that, not someone from behind the play as they can't view that.
moved early (not a penalty), but if he was right on the edge of the NZ then any forward movement places him in the neutral zone which would be a penalty before the ball is being snapped. That angle is not a good angle, but judging by his forward movement (his legs pushing forward) and assuming he was right at the NZ he looks offside.

You can make 2 assumptions on FG attemps.
Everyone on the line is lined up right at the line of scrimmage. SO you you flinch forward at any point before the ball is snapped you will be offsides. No one lines up enough behind the ball where they can flinch and still be onsides.
Broken down he moves a millisecond before the ball is shifted. No way that is an offside. Defense is allowed to move as long as not in neutral zone. No way he broke the plane that quickly. But when do you see a tackle block that kick anyway. Coach should have informed them on risk reward. Line judge threw the flag with right in front of Judge
why the hell he took the chance. It wasn't a gimme kick. Not a great time to roll the dice.
Right 47 yards on fucking grass? I guarantee Judge was behind it too. Wanted to show what a special teams genius he is by getting a block. Any fucking coach worth his salt let’s that play out in a high pressure situation.
Judge seems intent on showcasing his special teams when Harbaugh is literally the opposite. Judge better figure it out and if this team doesn’t get to 9 wins I’ll be for giving him his walking papers. This team has enough talent and we play in the dogshit East.

Dexter had a good record at Clemson for blocking FGs. I'm not defending his ill advised play but what would this board be like if he DID get a hand on it?

Fans like myself would probably say "great job" when in the actual case we said, "can't try to time the snap".
and affected the kick. Meaning is this not a conversation if he doesnt move? Just curious, I was so sick over this not really sure if this affected Hopkins.
When I watched/rewound it last night, I was thinking the same thing that PFT said. He moved exactly when the ball moved, and should not have been called offsides.
I understand why he was, and unless you could see the ball move you couldn't have known it (which a back judge cannot see).
RE: Do you think Dexter moving early threw off the kicker

Yep, I had thought of this. Anything out of the ordinary can surely throw off a kicker and he probably noticed it.
Dex is a good player, but he F'd up. Hopefully it fuels him to have a great rest of 2021, which I suspect it should.

I'm not sure about that, he barely squeeked it in from 5 yards closer in the same style. The kicker isn't looking at the line either. His total focus is on the spot. He wouldn't have noticed that (I used to kick a very long time ago)
The ball was inside the 20 I don't mind the risk reward of trying to jump the snap but with a 49 yard field goal you just cant take that kind of risk. Especially with the refs just looking to call anything on these types of plays it's just maddening the mistakes this team still makes
on a FG. They always let the snapper double clutch the ball for a snap on a punt or a field goal, and I think it's judged differently than other snaps for non special teams plays.
has nothing to do with lack of coaching. He knows the rules, he fucked up. Why isn't he jumping offsides all the other times?
Judge didn't have a good game, but I fault the player 100% of the time on plays like that. Its like blaming the OL coach when the LT holds, makes no sense.

Sorry no -you go on snap. He did. Refs made anther bad call in game

The coaches are supposed to be beating it into their heads, don't jump offsides. Who knows if it happened and whose at fault tbh, but this team is a bunch of losers that do loser things.

He missed a 49 yarder last week, too and it was a bad snap to the outside shoulder on the holder. So no, Lawrence had nothing to do with the miss.
Hell, he almost missed the next one, it just barely curled in..
Why was there no sideline view..? I find it hard to believe that the marker cam didn't catch it.
I thought the C moved the ball al little before the snap

You're a brave man- never understand how people can stomach rewatching some of these games.
Stupid team. Stupid coaches. Stupid players. Nothing more, nothing less.

(but it was late and I was tired, haven't seen the replay)
