Baldy's Breakdowns-several clips today (DJ/KG trust lacking)

FranknWeezer : 9/17/2021 12:13 pm
Just posting one of these, but there are quite a few. Some might actually make you feel better/optimistic.

This one, though, highlights how DJ opted for different alternates to KG on a few routes, even when he flashed open, because in Baldy's mind, DJ wasn't sure what KG was going to do (i.e. squat on a route, cut in, take it deep, etc.)

Chemistry is real

between a wr and qb. Eli and Peyton were talking about that last Monday night when Jackson had trouble hooking up with Sammy Watkins. Fans underestimate players knowing each other's subtleties and the timing of how they run routes.
KG is the kind of receiver you have to throw to

when he's not open. And you have to throw to the correct side/shoulder. A guy like Rodgers can kill it with a KG. But anticipation and short area accuracy haven't been hallmarks of DJs game - yet.
Golladay has never and will never be a guy that gets

Big, obvious separation.

Hes 6'4. If you're at all accurate he has a shot at making the catch. You have to put it up and give him a chance. If you're waiting for him to be wide open, you'll not be using him much at all.

The Manning bros. will be doing the next two MNF games. It's not only good entertainment, but you can really rely on the information you are getting from these two which means you can safely learn something new.
Just now seeing Giants in 07's post down from here

My bad. I had mine queued up about an hour ago and got distracted so didn't go back and look again before I posted it. Mods can delete mine if need be.
It takes time

It’s not DJ’s fault KG missed all preseason.

But he dropped every contested ball last night. That, and no show Toney, we’re my biggest disappointments with the offense last night. The guy we got to fill the contested catch role and our 1st round pick didn’t perform.
a bunch of excuses there

jones played great... but those are not chemistry ones--- the guy is wide the fk open AND hes looking at him. he has to throw those-chemistry is an excuse- they were bad decisions
Two guys were

Toney missed mini camp, training camp, and all of preseason and 2 called plays last week he didn't flash.
It is going to take awhile for him to earn trust from the coaches

Chemistry is a real component of quarterback wide receiver relationship, trust is part of that. If you have played basketball on a team where you are very comfortable with a say two of your teammates (jones very comfortable with shepard and slayton) then you add two more guys that you do not have much time if with, if any at all, likely you are going to go with what you're comfortable with until the trust develops which happens by actively playing together. This is quite common.
It is almost a backhanded slap on DJ...
EricJ : 9/17/2021 12:53 pm : link
who in both of those play examples should have released the ball to KG with or without the trust he is referring to.
ummmm
hitdog42 : 9/17/2021 12:54 pm : link
these were not routes that reflect what you are saying. one is a roll out there is 1 side of the field
the other was a clear post with clear opening and clear soft coverage.

there are tons of plays where what he is saying is correct- these are not that.

Actually if you listen to baldinger, he says exactly what I said above.
yes he does say that
hitdog42 : 9/17/2021 12:59 pm : link
and i dont agree with him on these plays at all. its a lame crutch for an easy pitch and catch. terrible example for his point. the throw him open balls would be a better example for timing and trust then generic routes on scripted plays.

I guess we'll agree to disagree and move on.
Jones has to pull the trigger
JonC : 9/17/2021 1:44 pm : link
especially on the second example where's got a clean pocket, a throwing lane and direct line of sight to KG, and the LB in the nearest zone has his back to the QB. Throw it to KG.

What were your thoughts on Jones' overall performance last night? I was pleased, personally.
He played much better
JonC : 9/17/2021 1:56 pm : link
he was decisive, he was anticipating open receivers and hitting them, didn't always lock onto targets, did a nice job running the football. There was more awareness and nuance in his game. He missed an open KG a few times but expect they'll smooth it over and add more to the offense. If you get this Jones on a weekly basis, you'd think he's starting to figure it out.

Giants need to get the run game going, and they've got to score more TDs in the red zone, Jones is part of the need to improve there.
