Not a definitive look

If I look at his left hand which is near the line were the ball is, I can infer his helmet is almost certainly in the neutral zone.

If he lined up in the neutral zone that's one thing.
mittenedman : 9/17/2021 2:16 pm : link
Otherwise, he moves exactly when the ball does.

in neutral zone, it's by an inch, which is a ticky tack fucking call. How is there not a sideline shot of that, and how is it not reviewable. Honestly, when I saw the replay I thought there was a chance he wasn't and now I'm like 50/50. Regardless, not even mad because it never should have came down to their kicker.

He doesn't think Evan Engram is going to the hall of fame.

Why's that? It looks to me, as it always seems, that the arms are outstretched forward meaning his head would be more in the elbow/forearm area?

I thought he jumped because he stopped after he moved so i knew there was going to be a flag..

I wonder if he didnt stutter and just went if they would of thrown the flag, the stutter made it look like he jumped

Dex’s forward movement and the ball movement are identically timed.

You’re certainly right about that but I really doubt he was lined up offside. I think they called that on the movement which looked obvious from some views until you see the timing of the snap and his movement together. Doesn’t matter now in any case.
whoa...
BillKo : 9/17/2021 3:04 pm : link
....thats interesting.

I even said to myself last night, did he move at the same time of the ball.

It looks fine from that shot, and I doubt he lined up offsides.

I guess, though, HE LOOKED offsides because he was so quick.

Sucks to be us.
It's a close call but they just can't be in that situation
larryflower37 : 9/17/2021 3:09 pm : link
Too many opportunities wasted that to put them in that spot.
This team has a lot of things to fix if they are going to win football games

Lines of Scrimmage : 9/17/2021 3:11 pm : link
knew the snap count. Seems like a too close that a flag is warranted. As Zeke said, they never should have been in that situation.
This is why you need a booth ref
NYG007 : 9/17/2021 3:13 pm : link
To fix screw ups. I yelled it live he went with the ball. We are NY, we will never win these calls, ever.
Creative splicing
sb from NYT Forum : 9/17/2021 3:14 pm : link
That's him trying to jump back before the snap.

Plus it looks like his helmet is in the neutral zone.

Actually my bad, not him trying to jump back. Still looks like his helmet was in the neutral zone. Youtube link below

And why do that at all when you are lined up right over the center?!? Why give the refs any grounds for a flag?

sb from NYT Forum : 9/17/2021 3:23 pm : link
He clearly moved forward before the snap.

I don't know what's going on with that Instagram post, but hey, it's Instagram, it's gotta be accurate, right?
At this point
Bill in UT : 9/17/2021 3:45 pm : link
what's the difference. They're not gonna go back and change the call. If he thought there was nothing wrong, why didn't he continue on through the WFT line?
That's a good view, but the problem is
Section331 : 9/17/2021 3:52 pm : link
that the line judge likely can't see the snapper move his hands up, and only sees Dex jumping. I don't believe those plays are reviewable.

That YouTube link doesn’t show anything about where his helmet is lined up. It’s the same perspective as I posted buy wider. And you can see just about what you can see with the video I posted but I think not as clearly.

I'm not so sure about that. If you watch the gif Bill posted, the snapper lifts the ball towards the defense before snapping it back. You can't see that from the YouTube vid. Dex is allowed to move once the ball moves. Although I do think what we see on the YT vid iss more in line what the line judge saw (albeit from a different angle). He likely never saw the snapper lift the ball up before snapping it back.

Generally, when a player lines up in the neutral zone they say that when announcing the penalty. Very disappointed there was no other view shown by NFL Network. I still think the linesman called it because he moved before the other linemen.
looks like he moves a fraction of a second
GIANTS128 : 9/17/2021 4:11 pm : link
before the ball is snapped. As JonC you said cant see where his head from that angle but the head goes first. So it most likely the right call IMHO.
The snappers arms are moving but the ball didn't get snapped
Rjanyg : 9/17/2021 4:27 pm : link
Unfortunately this is a great get off but the ball wasn't snapped and this is a fundamental football issue. I mean the ball is right there. The ball moves - you move!
Bill you’re missing the point
Dave on the UWS : 9/17/2021 6:16 pm : link
He very well might NOT have been off side. But you can’t risk having it look like it ( and getting penalized) for exactly the reason it played out, Hopkins got a second chance. He wasn’t missing it. There was nothing to be gained by trying to time the snap count. He’s not JPP, he’s not blocking anything.
