2021 NYG Prognostications

JoeDonLooney : 9/20/2021 9:17 am
Giants are 0-2. Of the 15 games remaining, how many wins?

I predict they will lose all four AFC West games, go 1-5 in the NFC East, and lose to the Rams, Saints, Bucs, Bears, and Panthers. The only other teams I foresee as a possible win is the Falcons or Dolphins but not both. Therefore, I predict a 2-15 season.

Other predictions:

Barkley will not get 1,000 yards combined in rushing and receiving yards. He is averaging 3.6 yards per carry and his receiving yards are 13 to date. The passing routes the coach puts him in are virtually useless. This OL is not capable of providing adequate run support. But, I am tired of hearing about his ACL. Either he plays with strength and determination or he should sit. It is that simple. The bigger question with Saquon is do you give him a fifth year extension or a second contract. Presently, I would not.

Giants will not utilize Kadarius Toney effectively. This will be a waste year for him.

Daniel Jones will be the team’s leading rusher.

Provided Sterling Shepard does not get hurt/ concussed, he will be the leading receiver in catches and total yards.

Kenny Golladay will have a strong second half of the season and finish a close second. Receiving yards fall off a cliff after these two receivers.

Evan Engram will have less than 50 catches and less than 600 yards this season. I do not foresee the Giants resigning him.

Azeez Ojulari will be the leader in sacks. I foresee him getting at least 10.

Leonard Williams will get less than 8 sacks this season.

Blake Martinez will lead in total tackles. However, whenever I see a safety like Logan Ryan and James Bradberry a close second and third to Martinez, I get concerned that the defensive front seven is very weak.

Giants are going to overly rely on Graham Gano to score field goals. He will be an All-Pro candidate.

Daniel Jones will have an “average” season. He will pass for over 3K yards. His percentage of completions will be around 63%. He will be sacked around 50 times. He will turnover the ball via fumbles and interceptions around 13. The Giants will be facing a number of very strong defenses this season. His performance could be significantly worse, or he could be injured and out for the season.

The question remains, is Danny Dimes the franchise quarterback? I dunno.

At the end of the season Gettleman will be gone. Abrams will be the new GM. Wash, rinse and repeat.

The Mara/Tisch legacy of lousy ownership continues. Need to hire lead management from outside the organization.
If DG is gone

than I think DJ will go with him.
Wow JoeDon, take a step away from the ledge.

I know things look bleak at 0 and 2 but man you are folding the tent up pretty quick. I think they have an idea of what they can do with Jones. Barkley is coming around and will be more of a threat (though never between the tackles) and I feel like Graham will get his mojo back and get this defense working. But I'm a glass half full with the Giants otherwise I'd never visit this site.
Wow, if Gettleman gets replaced by Abrams

I may just take a sabbatical from the NFL.
It will be interesting to see
JFIB : 9/20/2021 9:51 am : link
How they address the QB position if Jones is deemed unworthy. We have 2 top picks in the first round next year with no super start college QB to trade up for. It would be tempting to try and parlay one or both picks into even more first round picks in the 2023 draft. This team still has plenty of holes to fill with those 2 first round picks in 21' but you need a good QB if you want to be a winner in this league and it will be interesting to see how it all plays out.
I knew the NYG would stink (7-11?)
Harvest Blend : 9/20/2021 9:52 am : link
but liked Judge and Graham and figured they were keepers unless someone poached Graham. Now? Yikes.
Saquon has the fifth year;

picked up on it back in April.
Giants pick up fifth-year option on RB Saquon Barkley - ( New Window )
Honest question for yourself
GeoMan999 : 9/20/2021 9:56 am : link
Would you have written this if the offsides had not been called and the Giants are 1-1?

It’s a good reality question for all of us, including the beat writers, media, etc. This season is about improvement. The defense has to turn things around and hopefully the offense will continue to make strides.

I'd say we still have a lot of work to do; can't have both offensive tackles getting called on false starts on consecutive plays for instance. Still haven't gotten enough pressure on the quarterback.
If They lose Sunday

Your ridiculous hatred of Gettleman and apparent secret routing against this team is clouding your judgment and causing nothing but negative postings. THIS TEAM IS ON THE RISE and almost everyone on this site is missing it. We are about to go on a monster tear that will get everyone's attention.

Mark this post. You can certainly ridicule me if I am wrong, but be prepared to remember that I am one of the only guys here predicting what is about to happen. ** This is of course barring some additional unforeseen injuries, like to Shep or Jones or Saquon or Bradberry, etc.
If they lose Sunday we will be talking a lot of fans off the ledge
Rick in Dallas : 9/20/2021 10:25 am : link
Look going into this season I thought they would win about 7 games. That is still possible if this OL can gel together and the defense wakes up and plays aggressively. Two big questions….

Honestly if the OL can hold up, I could see this. I really worry about up front, going into the bye at 4-5 and I feel great about the chances of this team making playoffs. I think Garrett is finally getting it with his new weapons and what he has with DJ. Since the biggest issue seems to be coaching I have hope it can turn around. I hope Judge watched as much football as I did yesterday and see what’s going on around the league.
So we go from 6 wins to 2

with the following?

Subtractions:

Gates
Tomlinson

Additions:

Golladay
Rudolph
Barkley
Booker
Jackson
McKinney

and likely improvement of:

Thomas
Jones

Seems like a projection that is far too pessimistic.

cosmicj : 9/20/2021 10:53 am : link
I agree with many of your predictions but disagree on this:

Jones will have a completion % in the 65-67 range.

DG will retire but Abrams is not the Giants next GM.

Fate is the hunter. Regardless of call of offsides, it concerns me that the game was that close. The play calling in the last Giant possession was atrocious. Letting WFT march down the field and score a TD in 2 plays is pathetic. What is it about the end of the halves with the Giants' defense or lack thereof.

I never hang my hat on the expectation that the Giants will defeat WFT this season. It is how we are losing that disturbs me. Coaches and players are making significant mistakes. And, I fear that the variety of these 'mistakes' each week will continue unabated in the coming weeks.

This schedule does not invite confidence in a 6 or 7 win season, let alone a 4 win season.
6-11
Les in TO : 9/20/2021 11:03 am : link
Jones will miss significant time to injury after a tackle on a run (either concussion or leg)
The issues go beyond Gettleman
Dinger : 9/20/2021 11:03 am : link
our pro personnell and college scouting has been horrendous. You can replace Gettleman but are Judge and team the answer? If you let Judge pick a GM who says he's any better. I have no faith in any of the FO or Coaching staff after the 'execution' of this OL plan.
It's not just the losses
JonC : 9/20/2021 11:05 am : link
it's also how they're losing, and it's not trending in the right direction. The coaches as well as the players appear to be feeling the heat, and the confidence level on the football field has slipped.
7 wins????

The Giants are playing at home against the Falcons. The present betting line(s) that I have seen are, I believe, giving 1.5 to 3.0 to the Falcons. To be favored at home typically means a 3 point spread. So, it seems the gamblers are not too confident the Giants will prevail.

Look, I have been a Giant fan since the 60s. I do not like what is presently going on. This schedule appears brutal. Judge and co. need to step it up big time. Presently, I just do not see that happening. The Falcons are a big test for this team.

I hope your right but I still question that this team is on the Rise. Where do you see this other than on a piece of paper. Till they show me on the field I just don’t see it. I am getting real tired of the word teach being used by JJ and his coaching staff. These are supposed to be be NFL players. You teach and they learn by repeating what they’re doing correctly.

On paper you make sense. So far, and I hope it may get better but, their 4 best defense players from last year seemed to have taken a step back. One of them seems to be on the bench for half the game. Maybe its early, so we will see. And Barkley does not in any way resemble Barkley of a few years ago. Again, maybe that will change. Just doesnt seem to be a fit for this o line. As for Golladay I hope he doesnt get frustrated with this QB. He just does not see the field very well. All great players but it really has to be a fit, and the jury is out on that.

Your last sentence gives you one major loophole - injuries are inevitable and good teams can overcome injuries. Given Shep and Barkley’s recent injury history and Jones’ aggressive running style it’s more likely than not one or more will miss time.

Totally agree with you Tommy
The team that played Thursday night is capable of winning its share

of games. I said 7-10 before the season, and I'm sticking with it. Whether that is enough for some people to keep their jobs? I think anything short of the playoffs should mean some changes, but I think the Mara's will decide that progress has been made, and run it back next year.
Putting a bunch of “unforeseen” injuries and then listing a bunch of
Zeke's Alibi : 9/20/2021 2:15 pm : link
guys that have been injury prone is pretty ridiculous. It’s the NFL injuries happen and you need to overcome them unless they are devastating. The QB is the one exception. I actually do feel better as the season goes on because the schedule is easier after the bye and I like the back half of the roster. We are just missing top end talent for edge and all along the OL. The only devastating injury I see outside of DJ right now is Thomas. He gets hurt it’s a wrap.
....
BrettNYG10 : 9/20/2021 2:25 pm : link
I said 6-9 heading into the year. I'll say 5-8 today and would pick 6 if I had to pick a specific number. I'll be surprised if they hit 9.

All I really care about is that Gettleman is gone and that they don't appoint a replacement from within.

Also subtract Zeitler, Fackrell and BJ Hill. "Add" Solder.

Regression of a bunch of others (like Bradberry) and worse coaching is why we're 0-2.
