at least mostly. (The guests have been either great or meh.) Payton is pretty much holding court, and Eli’s zings are spot on. (“Nice call, Romo”) The analysis from both of them is great.
MNF, and without the color commentary, it’s hard for her to enjoy. Maybe it was just a bad 5 minutes of broadcast, but she wasn’t feeling it, so as I turn it to the normal broadcast
At some point, the ratings for the Mannings' version...
will surpass the regular broadcast. If I am ESPN, I would keep them both because collectively the combined ratings and eyes on screen have to be better than just the normal broadcast.
Reason they took this gig is because they can do it from home. Both have young families and seem to be enjoying retirement. Archie was a very hands on dad after retirement as well. I don’t think they would be interested in being on the main broadcast and traveling all over the country. This is why they came up with this idea, because everyone knows Peyton was being pursued to be in the broadcast booth for years.

You can appreciate Romo more after watching these broadcasts. He talks a lot too, but flows very naturally versus Peyton.
I agree, this would be distracting to watch if it was your team playing.
reads in the option game work, obviously never a big part of h is game going back.
Also interesting listening to them talk staying patient with the run game the two high look. Why is Graham calling defenses softer when we lost Dalvin Tomlison? It was a good strategy why we'd stuff the run up front sitting in two high zone, but now we are losing first and second down making third more manageable. Someone shoud also give him a memo about third and long when its four-down territory. Just unbelievably frustrating not to see us adapt to the personnel we have.
all night alone, but holy awesome the insider stories.. Ray Lewis talking about the time he corrected Eli calling the Mike and Eli agreeing with him before a play during the game he played against him lol
It's great and Pat MacAfee was the perfect guest for the crappy 4th Q
I'm not sure they want to be. Eli specifically said neither of them were really interested in sacrificing four days a week to do the actual broadcasts themselves in person.
the gronk spot was beyond awkward but nothing the Mannings did there was going to make much of a difference. Gronk should stick with tasks that require muscle and not brains.
Peyton and Eli sure know their football. It's no wonder they won 4 titles.
Eli Manning comments on why he and Peyton took this role
Basically both were approached about opportunities to travel for broadcast roles. They have to travel on Friday, spend the whole day on Saturday review practice and player interviews. Then do the game and not travel back home till Tuesday.
He mentioned both him and Peyton are not interested in that type of grind but this is perfect for both of them. They're able to do the broadcast from home and still spend time with their families.
Eli also does some college football interviews. He said normally, big time college coaches like Nick Saban only offer 30 minutes for interviews like this or not do them. Although, Eli mentions to them "Isn't my nephew high up on your recruitment list?"
Then all of a sudden, these coaches offer up 3 hours for Eli to conduction his interviews. LOL...Eli said he's milking his nephew's potential recruitment for what it's worth.

That's probably just a joke Eli made up on the spot :)
Sure it's awkward at times but that's real life. I love the banter, it's like sitting in a bar with the 2 of them and them talking about the technical aspects of running offended and reading defenses is solid gold. I agree it will be interesting to see how much I enjoy it when its a Giants game but it's so much better than listening to the regular Monday night crew.
RE: RE: I'd be shocked if they aren't the full time team

+1
Would never happen for the same reason Phil Simms got frustrated with being on a regular broadcast team. The production people dictate what the analyst can get into with depth, and it was clear if you follow Phil that he would rather be in the media room with his buddies Boomer, Cowher, and Pat Kirwan talking to each other like Peyton and Eli do.
The Mannings are good, though you definitely can see the big brother vs. little brother dynamic. Eli-as most of us know-is very funny. I don't think a lot of non Giant fans knew that.
production company that is producing the broadcasts in association with ESPN. The same company that produces Petyon’s Places and Eli’s Places on ESPN+. They do not work for ESPN in this arrangement.
It’s like watching the game with my friends, if my friends played in the NFL. Some ball breaking, some funny jokes, some not so funny jokes, some awkward stupid comments. But yeah, these guys know football and they know NFL football and the stories are great. I love it!
But, if the Giants were playing I’d still listen to Papa and Banks. Gotta get the game focus there. But I would record the Mannings broadcast and watch it the next day.
I am so used to football games being called a particular way. It may not be better, but it's what I am used to.
But it doesn't hurt that the current MNF broadcast is meh.
ESPN at one time where it seemed the game was secondary was almost unwatchable
I like the regular broadcast, tune in to the Manning’s for a few plays.
For a Giants game, I would consider them a distraction

Eli has been the surprise. Very insightful to compliment Peyton - much better than I expected- and has flashed with well-timed humor.

For a Giants game, I may tape them and watch on regular ESPN muted.
Peyton's reactions to bad QB play are a fun watch. Eli gets plenty of jabs in. Eli is also calling things ahead of time.
They are still working out the kinks so I expect this show to get better as the season progresses.

To each his own, but I only hear two things when NFL games are called the traditional way:
1) Blah, blah, blah, blah, blah (never shutting up for a second)
2) "It's his second game in the NFL and he's going to be a Hall of Famer! He's fantastic!"
