NFT: Happy Birthday Bruce Springsteen

johnnyb : 9/23/2021 7:30 am
Bruce turns 72 years old today, still putting out quality music and I am sure itching to get out on the road. I have seen Bruce and the Mighty E Street Band perform many times over the last 40 years and I am hoping Bruce has one more tour left in him.
I love Bruce and have seen him about 20 times but honestly

his current music doesn't come close to the music he wrote in the 70's and 80's

I've seen Bruce 187 times & sure,we all harken back to the BTR,Darkness,The River & even the BIUSA tours. They were amazing & the songs that Bruce put out in that era were some of his best. But artists rarely stay in the same writing mode,& even within those 4 tours you can see & hear a drastic change in his writing.I agree that the older material resonates better,as most of us have fond memories of those times & songs. However,as he turns 72 today,he's still putting out fresh material, not simply regurgitating his old stuff over & over again on an oldies tour as many artists do!Over the past year,he released Western Stars & Letter To You,new songs that we hopefully will hear live in 2022!
His current music is written by a 70 year old man

not a 25 year old man. Of course it's different. Born To Run is 46 years old. The title track of the most recent release explains the journey for a lot of us. For those who have been on the ride for almost 5 decades it's a wonderful gift that the guy who was writing music we could closely relate to when we were young is still writing music that we can closely relate to now that we're much older.

Was the best shows I ever attended. Intense, passionate rock and roll. The River Tour was different. More fun, less intensity. His work after The River was still good but starting to become redundant. His first four albums really said all he has to say. It is very hard for a wealthy guy with several mansions in Rumson to keep the blue collar working man persona alive.
The best of Bruce was when the E street band was a bar band

at the Student Prince in Asbury park circa 1970-71.
Those who saw him there know of what I speak.
It was just indiscribable
I hope we get one more E Street tour

Happy birthday, Bruce and well said, Mick. My own brother is a 72 year old songwriter. Back in the Spring of '74 he became one of the few acts that got to open for Springsteen after the release of both of their first albums on Colbumbia. Of course, after that their careers went in opposite directions.

And like Bruce, almost 50 years later, JP keeps writing new stuff.

Had the pleasure of seeing his Broadway show - it was incredibly well done. I listen to Letter to You often - the three old songs on there are standouts, but the new ones are good too. I’ve also enjoyed the radio show he’s done on Sirius/XM during the pandemic - “From My Home to Yours,” with different themes each episode. Still going strong. Must be killing him to not tour behind Letter to You, as those songs would all be great live.
