NFT: Cord cutters- T-mobile home service? Best tv streaming?

Pete in MD : 9/23/2021 10:05 am
Cord cutter thread #2,251:

I've just about had it with Comcrap/Xcrementy.

Does anyone use T-Mobile home for high-speed internet? How is the speed? My choices for adequate speeds are unfortunately only CableTown and T-Mobile.

What's the best tv streaming service? I'm looking at Fubo TV or maybe DirectV Streaming because of the local stations, sports, and DVR options. Any better suggestions?
I just switched to Fubo from DTVStream (formerly atttvnow).

During baseball season I use DTV stream because they have both YES and NESN (CT mixed fan household), locals and MSG for the Knicks.

During football season, I switched to Fubo. This loses me YES, but I get NFL network and Redzone. It also has MSG.

I'll probably switch back to DTV or something that has YES next spring.

Both services have DVR, good apps for Roku, etc.

You won't save money from comcast, but it's nice not to have cable boxes and it's nice to have flexibility to switch as you want.

Youtube TV is also really good, so is HULU live TV.

My recommendation is to use the free trials for new customers. Use the free trial, try the service and stick with the one you like.
I went from DTV to YT TV - it's solid/easy and you can start w trial

I moved and figured may as well try YT TV first since there's no equipment and no contract. I've used Hulu before and it's fine but wasn't great. YT TV had a promotion going where they basically threw in 4k for a year and knocked some % off the first few months. I'm a few months in and I have no real complaints. Guide/interface is solid but unspectacular (better than Hulu, perhaps not as intuitive as a traditional box). Unlimited cloud storage is nice and if u start watching something it automatically saves your spot for whenever you next turn the TV on. So far there has only been 1 nationally televised sporting event they didn't have (1 of the usmnt matches which streamed on paramount).

The biggest perk to DTV would have been Sunday Ticket for free, but it wasn't worth the 2 year contract and extra equipment fees.
Thanks.

I'm not looking to save a ton of money. I'm just tired of the nickle and dime-ing Comcast does. I'm a long-term/loyal customer and they just keep raising the price on the same service I already have or trying to up-sell stupid stuff like home phone service (do they think this is the 90's and people still use home phones?!) or WiFi-dependent mobile phone service (uh, mobile technology is moving the other way guys.)

I pay $30/month to "rent" four boxes and ~$35/month in "local network fees" and "regional sports fees." That's $780/year in wasted money because those same channels are included in most streaming services and who needs boxes with Smart Tvs?
oh, I forgot $10/month

in DVR fee.

I was starting fresh and eliminating the equipment was definitely one of the bigger swing factors (along with no contract) to trying something different.

I will say you will probably want to get 1 of the good streamers for your main TV (I got apple tv and it's a big step up in quality from smart tv software and Chromecast). i've heard good things about the higher end roku but haven't used it.

90%+ of the time you can't tell any difference streaming vs. a box, but on occasion whatever app you are using will need to be rebooted or refreshed. Chromecast was almost once a day with regular usage, Apple TV is pretty infrequently. Once every week or two. I moved the Chromecast to another room where it's not used as much and it hasn't had any issues.
Just switched over to T-Mobile's Home Internet.

It's only been 3 weeks, but we are a family of 7 that streams for TV and I work from home. Service this far has been solid. Only had a couple of issues with Zoom quality, but it was quick blips. My Optimum service was constantly dropping on my Zoom calls.

They also have a streaming TV service. I don't use it since I need MSG so I have Fubo.
I also recommend YoutubeTV
Paulie Walnuts : 9/23/2021 1:17 pm : link
we chose that over Fubo because YTTV has TCM and Fubo doesnt
I have my YTTV set to record all college games and golf, unlimited cloud storage

I was watching the thu game on my phone while watching Barry Manilow Concert in Vegas never lost the signal unlike the Giants
It frustrates me to no end

that I’m such a technology idiot. I don’t watch TV all that much but the missus and the kid *must* have it, so we pay the $230 bloodsucker bill every month for landline, internet, and cable tv (when the “12-month promo price” falls off each year, the price jumps up to $280 and I have to spend the better part of a soul-less hour going through charade with the phone rep that I am going to discontinue my service. They end up offering $180 per month, but invariably, the bill shows up for $230).

The most maddening part? All I’m ever interested in watching are the Giants games, and being out of market, I have to seek out quasi-legal streams that need to be refreshed every 10 minutes and I have to avoid the land-mine porno ads. It seems like $230 per month doesn’t get you what it used to.

If you are in or near Baltimore...go the antenna route and get a DVR box like HOMERUNTV. You would stream to all your TV's thru that your WIFI to a Roku or Firestick. Then fill in with streaming services. I'd go as far to say you might not need YTTV. You can pretty much cover the bases with HULU, etc. I bet T-Mobile Internet would be a good option for you if Verizon is not an option.
I have You Tube TV and love it.

No extra charges for additional TV's or DVR, and they have most of the RSN's, except for YES. I'm not a Yankees fan, so that doesn't impact me.

I still use Optimum for broadband, but I'd LOVE to kick them to the curb. My development isn't wired for FIOS, so that's not an option, how much does T-Mobile charge for home Internet?
IK, I see that T-Mobile is $60/mo,

which isn't that much less than Optimum, and reading a CNET review makes me a little hesitant. His highest downstream speed was 127 mbps, and I regularly get ~250. Working from home and streaming video, I'd be concerned that TM wouldn't cut it.
