In fucking sick of people bitching about a draft pick from FOUR years ago. Teams miss all the time and Barkley isn’t exactly a dud of a player but even if he is, it’s four god damned years ago now. The Eagles traded the farm for Wentz and they can still function. The Rams trade every fucking pick they have and keep winning. Teams miss but only the giants would be supposedly haunted by one fucking pick from four years back. Gimme a break.
Until the story changes, the decisions that led the team to this position are always going to be fresh wounds.

The problem is it just isn’t “one pick.” It’s entire drafts and FA class mistakes compounded.
Every aspect of his game is average at best. People saying he’d be better on another team are incorrect. His flaws are fatal. He doesn’t hit a hole. His agility and speed are not what they were. He never runs with power. His balance is poor as he often trips over his own feet. He doesn’t even try to make people miss now (that may be due to his knee). You think he’d look different on another team? I think he’s just not very good.
In my opinion we won't know if he can come all the way back until
Yeah, you get the 3 yard loss every now and then. Then I looked at his state line 3.2 yards per carry. Not good.
It is a shame because he seems like a good guy and he is a team player but he is the face of Giants' futility because they drafted him number two overall.
After that performance today, I firmly believe Barkley is contributing to the OL’s mediocrity. He does some things very well but is just mediocre at key aspects of his position.
I had the same thought during the game today - imagine Barkley has been the problem with the OL all along?

A RB at #2 is a stupid pick unless he is the final piece of the puzzle. Toney was a stupid pick. OBJ was a stupid pick. Why...because the OL has sucked for 10 years. The Giants draft like they are a pick or two away from glory when the truth is they have not had a decent pass rush or OL in 10 years. And it is not on the scouts...its the plan that has been implemented by the front office.
The Barkley we saw in his rookie year was a mirage. But I doubt we'll ever see him return to that level and that highlights a flaw in the pick that I didn't give as much weight to as I should have: for every Marshall Faulk who is productive for 8-10 years there's a Chris Johnson, David Johnson, Larry Johnson, Arian Foster, Maurice Jones-Drew, etc.
Banks took a ton of shots at 26 for not hitting holes an d dancing causing losses. Specifically on the 2nd and 1 on our last drive that went for a 3 yard loss
Banks on postgame kept it going. Said while the offensive line isn't good, on certain plays 26 just doesn't give them a chance.

Amen!
To add to this, this is who Barkley is and always has been. He got away with it to some extent in year one because he was new to the league. Once DCs had tape on him they could see his tendencies and coached their guys up on how not to fall for his cuts. So now he loses yards on the same plays as before, but the big break out highlight reel players are not there anymore. Those are well defended.
But to be honest he didn't really get a way with it as a rookie wither. He was an insanely inefficient runner as a rookie. I think it was JonC who posted a stat that he gained something like two thirds of all his yards on something like 30 plays, leaving the other 350 or so touches averaging less than 2 yards. I posted a stat from Football outsiders that show his running success rate (defined a percent of yards needed for a first down or TD on any given down... 1st Down: 40%, 2nd Down 50%, 3rd or 4th Down 100%). In that stat Barkley has been at or near the bottom every single year he has been in the NFL. And that start has the strongest correlation with winning of any rushing stat.
He wasn't just a bad pick. He is emblematic of what has been wrong with this franchise for nearly 15 years. Yes they won a SB in 11, but it was largely with the remnants of the 07 team built by Accorsi. Since Reese took over there has been a fascination with every bright shiny object that comes along, without paying attention to the fundamentals of team building. There hasn't been a discernible plan for team building in 15 years, I'm not sure that the front office even knows how to plan for team building.

It's not every day you get to pick that high. Shoot the las time was when the Giants got Eli in '04.
You know very well the Giants are being haunted by more than just one failed pick.

Why stop there? Other highly drafted Penn State RBs:
Blair Thomas - #2 overall
Curtis Enis - #5 overall
It's good so see Barkley aspiring to follow those winners' footsteps.
I was so confused by that. That’s a guy who is not seeing the field well.
I really thought he had a terrible game today.
