I know, I know & I know. But watching Skinner's film study on the oline you can absolutely see (and I don't know shit about passing routes), that once again Evan was suppose to sit in between those two zone defenders and that is what DJ was expecting. Please. Release. Him.
So aggravating at this point if my dumb ass can call it out.
The patience that coaching staff must have with him is remarkable. Head-scratching, but nevertheless remarkable.
They have to be thinking that if he can somehow make a few positive plays here and there that they might get somebody to trade for him before the deadline. Otherwise, he is just a $6M waste of time.
Lattimore would have jump anyone on the route, he tried before.
Nobody chooses to roll coverage to Ole Stone Hands...lol...it was a blown assignment. Wishful thinking that EE scares anyone other than his own teammates.
Hes a first round draft pick. The Criticism is fair when your first round TE cant block or catch. (Or run precise routes to the point of the thread).
I think we have enough evidence to suggest opposing teams matchup just fine with Engram.
And I would bet many of them actually want him to be targeted because they know the likely outcomes.
How the crowd treated him was brutal .
Even Pff said Engram looks slow and he has fallen off a cliff. He's 27 with a ton injuries. Not a single defense is afraid of him. Thats the truth.
Yes, Lattimore and that Safety went running after Engram leaving Barkley free down the sideline.
Can you blame them? A pass to Engram is a good chance for them to get a deflected int or strip.
People just assume he's doing the wrong thing every time. We have no way to actually prove this.
They should have dumped him a couple of years ago.
The fact that they kept him but let Dalvin Tomlinson go over the off-season has hurt this team a lot. Note that Sy torched Tomlinson's supposed replacement Danny Shelton in his write up on the win over the Saints.

How was it a decision between Tomlinson or Engram? EE makes less money than Kyle Rudolph - the better comparison here is Jackson or Tomlinson.

It's not really an either or. It's not like they chose to re-up with Engram instead of Tomlinson. The Vikings have been worse than we have against the run so it's not a sure thing that with Tomlinson we'd be substantially better than we are now. Martinez is a big loss however.

Didn't say he couldn't catch, said he's made some boneheaded plays has had a lot of drops. But he has been top 10 in yds per game for TE's each of the last 3 years. You can call him out for his issues but to say we should release him is a joke.
It was a bad drop.

Are there any other bad football playing pro bowlers? Seriously . He had 100+ targets last year. Gronk has 75 Orr so. Think about that.i don’t see EE on subway adverts; not on t mobile commercial s. Not to mention he made some tough catches on the first down during the fourth qtr on a ball that was not thrown well.
What kind of argument is this? The pro bowl is a popularity contest. Gilmore was a pro bowl STARTER and he just got cut.

You have to name another pro bowler who sucks

Gilmore got cut because he was demanding a new contract and would not play on his current deal. It's like some of you write your own realities.

The reality is pro-bowl doesn't equal winner. But if you want to die on Evan Engrams hill...more power to you.
The rhetoric around Engram has become ludicrous.

The guy sucks. Is that rhetoric? I'll say that much. The rest of what you are replying to...isn't my argument.

Engram is likely to be playing elsewhere next season. He hasn't turned into the player we hoped. But he's also not Jamarcus Russell or Akili Smith. It's possible to simultaneously think a guy is not the long-term solution while not proclaiming him to be the worst football player to ever lace up.

The guy sucks? Maybe but it is absurd the vilification this guy gets here. He had 100 targets last year. Just as a point of reference Gronk had like 75? Do you really make someone that much of afeature of your offense that sucks that bad? You can rotate TEs but, the idea we're just going to cut the guy is just dumb. You can use him as a back up if he were that bad.
I just think Jones is such a minor league / back up QB that he only wants to throw to people like slot receivers and Engram because they are likely defended by lineabker safeties and he won't throw to Cornerbacks in a tight window more than not.
