One of the most annoying things about this team this year has been their complete inability to make a defensive stand at the end of the 1st half.
vs. Broncos
- Giants Up 7-3
- Giants Punt to DEN 43yd line with 2:25 left in half
- Bridgewater goes 6/6 for 57 yds and a TD
- Giants get ball with 8 secs left, kneel
vs. Washington
- Giants up 10-7
- Giants Kickoff to WFT 16yd line with 4:05 left in half
- Heinicke goes 7/7 for 66 yards
- McKissic runs in a TD
- Giants get ball with 15 secs left, kneel
vs. Falcons
- Giants up 6-0
- Giants Punt to NYG 44yd line with 2L09 left in half
- Ryan goes 4/5 for 33 yards and a TD
- Giants get ball with 1:33 left
- Engram fumbles and ATL gets ball at NYG 25 with 1:00 left
- Ojulari Sack/Forced Fumble on Ryan
- Giants get ball with 7 secs left, kneel
vs. Saints
- Giants up 7-0
- Giants Kickoff to ATL 25yd line with 8:51 left in half
- Winston/Hill go 6/6 for 62 yards and a TD
- Saints convert 4 3rd downs on clock eating drive
- Giants get ball with 23 secs left, Jones Hail Mary INT to end half
That is simply unacceptable. This team was literally up in every single one of these games before their opponents last real end of half drive. The opposing QBs went 23/24 for 218 yards and 3 TD on those drives. 23.. of 24.
Score during Last 2 mins of the 1st half
NYG: 0
OPP: 28
Score during the rest of the game
NYG: 83
OPP: 67
Judge and Graham better have emphasized this during practice this week. These are momentum changing moments that are a huge reason why this team is 1-3 instead of 3-1 right now.
If PG starts them playing tighter D, they can play it for 60.
The second half opponent first possessions haven’t been well played either. IDK if it’s good adjustments by opponents or PG adjusting incorrectly.
While losing the lead all 4 times. Just unreal stuff.
I agree that Graham needs to dial up more aggressive looks. The only way 23/24 completion percentage happens is if you go way too safe.

That is shockingly bad.

Thinking back I know they occurred but wasn't putting it all together it happened each and every week.
And now you reminding everyone that it gave up the lead each time and was done with that level of comp% is just crazy.
I was being kind when I said "shockingly bad". An average college defense would most certainly have better results.
- Prescott goes 6/7 for 76 yards and a TD
- Giants get ball back with :35 left, do nothing
The updated QB stat line for the last "real" drives the opposing teams have had before the half...
29/31 for 294 yards and 4 TDs (0 INTs), that's a Passer Rating for 145.77...
I just have no words for this. It's literally impossible to be any worse in these situations than the Giants D has been so far.

but did you see the fumble they forced in the 1q? [s/]
in all seriousness though thank you for tracking this. Graham's defense, in particular the secondary, is the single most disappointing unit of the team so far - and nowhere more visible than on these obvious passing situations. the secondary is the most invested in and least injured unit on the team. These numbers make Antoine Bethea's NYG career look good. Ok maybe that's a stretch.
the ravens and pats have been 2 of the few consistently good defenses over the past several years, who are their best defenders? where do they allocate the most cap dollars?
if Bradberry/Jackson complete the easy picks they should have this year looks different, even with all the other deficiencies. if graham's schemes and the young guys at S/nickel don't regress it looks different too.
I wanted Parsons at 11 and Paye at 20. I'm hopeful that the team has a shot at a closer/difference maker.
Change to a 4-3 ... hard to say because they would have to rebuild most of the LB unit, and probably some DL. But imv, Dexter has been disappointing in this scheme, 4-3 DTs tend to be "easier" to find than NTs, and the LB ranks need a lot of talent either way. Just don't know how much they will want to unwind the current investment. But, if DG goes ...
Our NTs are not consistently occupying a double and the ILBs are not able to play downhill beit skill or the fact that OGs are running free.
I guess my point is, the Gs need backers regardless of formation/scheme. If the best player out there is a 5/7T, let him eat.
I also wonder if DL and LW are better playing a single gap and getting after the ball. (which I know, in a multiple, they do some of this)

You know, until you guys mentioned it, I had forgotten Parsons played in the game. He had almost zero effect and I do not recall his name being called at all.
Well, Carter is up after this year and I'd say jettison Ximines, but the Giants seem to like both (for some reason).
If I were converting to a 4-3, Lawrence and Williams would shift inside to the defensive tackle spots, draft either one of Hutchinson or Karlaftis (I don't think Thibodeaux will be there when we're up, he hasn't been whenever I've been doing mock drafts); both are strong run defenders and effective pass rushers. Also, draft a second defensive end in the second through fourth rounds; I've been bouncing around candidates.
We also need a SAM linebacker who can key tight ends; admittedly we'd need a SAM even if we weren't converting. Ojulari is the odd man out, but he reportedly has some ability in covering the flats and obviously some effectiveness when blitzing, maybe a WILL linebacker? Martinez would likely stay as the MIKE linebacker but might need to come off the field on passing downs because he isn't great in coverage.
And the secondary?...

Parsons was my pick at #11 too. A shame he wasn't even on their board.

The way announcers call the NFL today, you only hear a handful of names because they're too busy yakking away. Parsons is a young kid and has a ton of talent.

In 2020 he has (8) and played one less game.
IMV, Parsons will be a handful.
Also, I agree re: announcers. Somebody tell them that it's ok for the tv audience to listen to cadence and even moments of just crowd noise.
