Phil did his spot on BBK Podcast yesterday and was asked his assessment of Daniel.
His answer:
“I take my wife to dinner on Wednesdays. A fan asked me,” “‘What do you think of the Giants quarterback?”
Phil’ s response, “ What do you think?” He got back the popular answer to that question: “I ‘m not sure. “
Phil said, “ Well he s the best player on the team. “
As a fan excited about the pick since day 1, it pleases me to be in the same camp as Phil, for obvious reasons.
Pretty certain Phil s opinion will have little impact on resident critics of Daniel, but I tend to value his opinion very much.
Just like Eli never put up big stats, was a .500 QB, but man could he come through in the clutch. All those comeback and big game wins is what endeared him to Giants fans, as well as showing up for work every week.
Jones appears to figuring things out and hopefully starting to click. If the Giants can string together some wins here, you'll see that "I don't know crowd" becoming fewer and fewer.
Need some of the "best" defensive players to earn their paychecks too and then we have something.
d is looking 3 or 4 short
I have some high hopes for Aaron Robinson at cb
McKinney looks pretty poor instincts, wonder if he may be better off as a slot or 3rd cb? ( if it’s angles, not athleticism, h9lding him back)
I personally found cb easier to play than safety.
Need ER, another DT, maybe another ILB and still need cb

Eli never put up big stats? Haha. What were you watching? The guy is top 10 in passing yards and TDs in the history of the NFL.

I agree. Only people trying to act smart say Jones is the problem.
But Jones is pretty clearly showing some improvement, and it's welcomed.
When it's time to talk about contract #2, that'll a whole different barrel of monkeys. Jones at his current contract is a lot different than Jones at 15%+ of the salary cap. But there's a decent amount of time between now and then.
At this point, picking up the 5th year would seem to be obvious to me, but I'm sure at least a few others will disagree.
What I really want to see is how he'd look in an offense that fully leans in to his running capability. The coaching staff has embraced it a bit more this year, but I'm a believer that there's still a lot of chicken left on the bone there.
He better be this week too because if the defense plays like it has the first 4 games Dallas is going to score in the 40's on them.
Even though Jones has been good this year and was excellent with his career performance last week, there is still a lot of room for improvement seeing the field, feeling the pocket and identifying the pre snap blitzes. But if he keeps the level of his play through the first 4 games all year the Giants do not need a new QB. That would be a wonderful thing.
I don't understand how and why it dropped off so precipitously.

LOL, Eli never put up big stats? He's top ten ALL TIME in every statistical category for QBs.

There were plenty of Giants fans that sports hated Tarkington when he was basically a one man team and Phil and Kerry Collins and Eli and now Jones. It seems to come with the job of being QB of the NY Giants.
I doubt it will ever change and I'm sure no matter how objective Phil tries to be he's going to defend a Giants QB getting a tough time from the fan base.
The other 10% is athleticism, accuracy, and arm strength, I would guess according to Bill.
Jones has the full package and what we saw last week is hopefully a game he will build on.
Jones finally has a decent O-line and explosive WRs to work with.
He is currently the 4th best QB in the NFL according to the QB ratings. His upside is enormous. The sky is the limit.
We are very lucky to have Daniel Jones in my opinion.
Time will tell
But I have heard him say this and this I agree with 100%:
Bill Parcells 11 Quarterback commandments:
Ignore other opinions
Clowns can’t run a huddle
Fat QBs can’t avoid the rush
Know your job cold
Know your own players
Be the same guy every day
Throwing the ball away is a good play
Learn to manage the game: clock, clock, clock
Get your team in the endzone
Don’t panic
Don’t be a celebrity quarterback
I agree with Phil also.
And, Jones should only get better. We have a young (very?) offense. This is Jones 3rd season. When he and the others have a few more seasons under their collective belts together - this offense should be very powerful.
What is missing? Another 1 or 2 OL .... and then settling on a unit that can grow together. I could be wrong but, I think we have enough weapons. Maybe an upgrade at TE. Engram is not a reliable catcher and can't block and Rudolph is not getting any younger.
I do agree with him
I think he was trying to say the mental aspect of being a QB is paramount
there are not any great QBs I can remember that were not excellent field generals
Jones has that it factor .... he is very smart
Yeah pretty silly. Some here acting like Eli was just a compiler, like the Don Sutton of QBs. Wrong.
If you think about what I said about Parcells then Eli is explained.
His gift was primarily between the ears, his throws wobbled a lot, were often too high and erratic (remember how Burress hauled in all those high balls), but he made the right selections and although he ran like a man with a refrigerator on his back, he moved in the pocket and was extremely durable and tough to bring down (big dude)
Had Burress not shot himself Eli might have gotten Lombardi #3
If you have watched Eli and Peyton call games on ESPN 2 this season you realize 2 things
1- Eli has a lot more personality than we thought and is very likeable
2- He and his brother had/have an instant recognition of what defenses were doing, and how to combat them. Encyclopaedic.
Im not sure if Eli is truly HOF material but He certainly is Giants HOF material (2 Super Bowls over the GOAT) enough said.
This kid Jones is Eli mentally equivalent but with the tight spirals and incredible foot speed
Now lets see some more Lombardi's Daniel PLEASE
The Giants have not come away with many wins, but they have been hanging in every game this season. Thanks to Daniel Jones, the New York Giants are competitive. If Daniel Jones continues to play at this high level, the Giants will win more games, and he truly will establish himself as a franchise quarterback.
I wonder why not? Lol
