The record in a year when I thought The Giants would dominate
2. Xaviar McKinney... It was all there, the pedigree (high no.2 pick), the tease from last year. But he hasn't been good and I'm more puzzled than disappointed.
3. Gates and Martinez....not in performances but with the early season ending injuries. Tough to lose the leaders on both side of the ball...
4. Danny Shelton I saw a Bobby Skinner analysis and walked away convinced that we had a replacement equal to or better than the lost Tomlinson. Martinez's raves contributed to my sense of well being....and I dared dream..."Wow, 340 plus joins 340 (D.Lawrence) and Williams is the small guy." Thought we really had something. We do, an out of shape blob, and if McKinney can grow, this guy is grown. Shouldn't be but it is...
5. Daniel JOnes....not in his performance but in the lack of regard for same. Rookie year: missed two games and the preseason and breaks records, displays an almost uncanny accuracy throwing to journey men receivers and the boo birds ominate. Second year and he leads the league in passes over 20 yards and still the majority don't get it.
We have a premium and maybe even great QB in his prime. He's complete, runs well, accurate strong arm, great attitude and work effort. Holy Holy InComeFree...come out and smell the roses...
Wondering who you have down for disappointments...betting there'd be a lot of votes for Judge and the fourth down punts ....
1. Game winning drives two games in a row
2. TDs before the end of the first half in each game
We're seeing reversion.
I was careful to label this MY disappointments. I note that you're telling us how we should feel. Thank you, but that's a prerogative I'll hold onto for now.
That secondary is loaded with veteran guys who are being paid a lot more money and have started a lot more guys than McKinney. Bradberry, Jackson, Ryan and Peppers are not exactly putting their respective best foot forward so far.
Agree here. Rivera + Fangio beat him. And he beat himself against Atlanta. And got bailed out of a 10 point deficit vs. NO by his QB putting on a cape in part because of the non-timeout before halftime that cost them 20-30 seconds and at least a chance to kick a FG under 60 yards.
In terms of players I'd agree with most of the defense being disappointing so far. The secondary has more resource in it than any other group on the team and other than Bradberry's 2 INTs they have 1 turnovers in 4 games (Logan Ryan's FF vs. Denver). That's pretty bad, especially given the QB's they've faced.
Leo Williams. Had a better game last week, but overall he's disappeared too much this year (does he miss Tomlinson or is his wallet too heavy?). I know sack stats aren't everything, but he's on pace to have half as many QB pressures and sacks as he had last year. There've been times when I had to pause the TV to see if he was playing. When I did he looked like he was slow dancing with an opposing OL.
Coaching. Bad decisions have played part of at least one loss. I hated it at the time when we didn't go for the throat after Bradberry's INT. Settling for a FG and giving the ball back with over 2 min and 3 TOs was a really bad decision. And we paid for it. Hope coach Judge learned from that.
I felt pretty sure going in to this season that the Giants had their HC for a lot of years in Judge; now, not so sure. Play to win, not to not lose.
shelton i think will turn it around. i think he's a good team piece but austin johnson should get more reps based on talent. really our linebackers have to step up because its easy to say the DL isn't performing in the run game when your LBs are filling gaps.
+1.
IK our ER is still weak, but AO has made it better than last year. That said, when he , or Carter, vacates his lane responsibility , and they throw to the RB out of the backfield, it takes forever for an LB or DB to get to the receiver before he picks up first down. Play recognition by the back 7 is slow.
Good ballplayer, but I was looking for a breakout, impactful year.
--------------
Here are the 4. Three players and 1 coach.
1--- Dexter Lawrence. Definitely not close to being the worst or among the worst players. But I expected a lot more. I expected he'd be an impact player. Instead for a mid-1st round pick, he applies little pressure, not making a huge impact in stopping the run and was the biggest reason why Giants lost to Wash. Incredibly dumb.
2--- Carter/Ximines OLB combo. While I wasn't expecting a lot, so far we have gotten absolutely nothing from them. Nothing. I wasn't expecting they would be this awful of providing nothing.
3--- Barkley. I didn't realize he was os blind in finding holes. It would still be beneficial big time to get him a terrific OL but this OL is doing okay enough and yet he hasn't yet been much of an impact other than game 4. Injury notwithstanding, he should be able to understand holes much better.
4-- Defensive Coordinator- Patrick Graham. It's pretty sad when most of the talk is that the Giants "need to score" vs Dallas. I can't believe that he hasn't bene able to find a way through any defensive alignments and blitzes ot get a some type of pass rush. With the current players acquired from 2020 to 2021 and players returning, the pass rush is nothing more than "stuck in the mud" with little to no creativity vs some bad / mediocre teams thus far.
Wrong. The team’s 2020 strength is now a very average unit.
The incompetence of the Giants front office continues to produce results.
Regarding that, is this scheme? What's changed from last year?
They couldn't figure out how someone who is 340 lbs was getting moved so easily. I would take someone off a practice squad who is 6'3" or taller 315 lbs with greater physical strength over Shelton at this point. Our run defense has suffered greatly because of his play.
Also way too early to label Tomlinson irreplaceable. He probably is not, but it is too early to compare this d-line to last year's late season d-line. And without Martinez, is any comparison of run stopping ability going to be valid? I do have hopes that Ragland will approach and equal Martinez's contribution as he integrates into the scheme. There is certainly np physical reason he cannot do this.

Carter wasn't that great before his injury.
