If we have one top pick...

BestFeature : 10/9/2021 4:52 pm
...hopefully the Bears pick, would you go for an O-lineman or an edge rusher? I know it depends on who's there, but knowing who will be there in the top 5-10?
OL
adamg : 10/9/2021 4:56 pm : link
.
The Giants have gone heavy on offense
US1 Giants : 10/9/2021 4:58 pm : link
with the first pick in recent drafts. I think it is time to give the defense some young impact pass rushers.

All things considered it is BPA.
robbieballs2003 : 10/9/2021 5:03 pm : link
However, just based on pure positional value, either is fine. I think finding top tier edge rushers are harder to come by. At the same time, OL is at an all time high in terms of being a premium position and that goes for all 5 OL positions.
Edge
BillT : 10/9/2021 5:06 pm : link
They play the premium position. Pass rushers are the coveted players and require a higher pick to get a good one. And we have our LT which is the premium OL position. You still have a first, second and third to get OLs.
It somewhat depends on Isaiah Wilson's development...
Milton : 10/9/2021 5:11 pm : link
He can be the prototype at right tackle if his head is on straight.
All things equal I’m going edge
djm : 10/9/2021 5:11 pm : link
The defense isn’t god awful on paper but it kinda reminds me of the late 90s early 2000s NYG offense in that it needs that Shockey type player. They need an attacker on D of a spark plug. It’s why I wanted parsons so badly in this last draft. I love that we got Toney and the future pick but man did we need parsons. I hope we don’t live to regret bypassing him.

Don’t see how you can count on him for next year in any way. He’s got a long way to go and we need help now.
Is hard to say
big_blue : 10/9/2021 5:25 pm : link
but if need pick I’d do something like this:

EDge then OT and in R2 go LB or DT or OG/C ahh so many needs.

Maybe we address one of these in fa but with our cap space I don’t see more then that.
Edge
Biteymax22 : 10/9/2021 5:34 pm : link
My value chart for positions goes QB, Edge, LT. We have a QB and and LT already, so edge.

You can get a starting right tackle anywhere in the first 2 rounds and in reality, its probably the first 3 for interior OL.

All that aside, I also think a stud pass rusher would have the biggest impact on this team right now.
If top pick, has to be Oregon ER
Payasdaddy : 10/9/2021 5:37 pm : link
But if it’s top 5 and he is available, Neal from bama
Over any other ER
He looks like a freaking beast and seems pretty athletic
Aidan Hutchinson, Edge from Michigan
Jarvis : 10/9/2021 5:44 pm : link
Seems worthy of a top pick (hopefully it’s coming from the bears).

How does Thibodeaux compare to someone like Chase Young at the same point in time in their college careers?
this is...
DannyDimes : 10/9/2021 6:03 pm : link
a question to ask in March.
Thib is starting to scare me as the top prospect
Zeke's Alibi : 10/9/2021 6:17 pm : link
He’s always dinged up, and he plays on a great line. I think he’s more Bradley Chubb than Khalil Mack/Von Miller.

Neal would make the offense unreal IMO. We could throw the ball all over the yard and DJ is great from a clean pocket. Interior pressure wouldn’t matter because of how mobile DJ is, the only thing it would accomplish is cutting the field in half in the pass game.

The difference between a guy like Aiden and Thibs doesn’t seem all that much to me. Tackles like Neal are rare, even if he’s destined to right side ultimately (and I’m not talking about Thomas ability here, I think Neals better position ultimately is right side, hides some of his few flaws).

1. EDGE KAYVON THIBODEAUX, OREGON
2. S KYLE HAMILTON, NOTRE DAME
3. CB DEREK STINGLEY JR., LSU
4. OT EVAN NEAL, ALABAMA
5. EDGE AIDAN HUTCHINSON, MICHIGAN
6. DI DEMARVIN LEAL, TEXAS A&M
7. CB KAIIR ELAM, FLORIDA
8. QB MALIK WILLIS, LIBERTY
9. IOL TYLER LINDERBAUM, IOWA.
10. QB SAM HOWELL, NORTH CAROLINA

https://www.pff.com/news/2022-nfl-draft-pffs-top-100-nfl-draft-prospects

1) Kyle Hamilton, S, Notre Dame
2) Kayvon Thibodeaux, DE, Oregon
3) Evan Neal, OT, Alabama
4) DeMarvin Leal, DT, Texas A&M season.
5) Derek Stingley Jr., CB, LSU
6) Andrew Booth Jr., CB, Clemson
7) Kenyon Green, OG, Texas A&M.
8) George Karlaftis, DE, Purdue
9) Kaiir Elam, CB, Floridat level.
10) Tyler Linderbaum, OC, Iowa

https://www.profootballnetwork.com/2022-nfl-draft-big-board-top-50-prospects-w0/

Assuming neither the Giants nor the Bears picks are top 5, which means these players will likely be gone without a trade up:

Kayvon Thibodeaux Oregon EDGE 6'5" 260 JR
Kyle Hamilton Notre Dame S 6'4" 210 JR
Evan Neal Alabama OT 6'7" 360 JR
Derek Stingley Jr. LSU CB 6'1" 200 JR

but one of these below should be available in the 6 to 10 range (as well as potentially one of the above):

Aidan Hutchinson Michigan EDGE 6'5" 269 SR
Kaiir Elam Florida CB 6'2" 192 JRT
Tyler Linderbaum Iowa OC 6'2" 289 RJR

So Edge, OT, OC and CB should be among the positions with projected top 10 in the draft value (admittedly very early in the 2021 College Football season).

Whichever has the better player

5 picks in first 3 rounds
Breeze_94 : 10/9/2021 7:17 pm : link
Biggest needs are, in no order:

RT
IOL
EDGE
TE (not looking like there is any first round caliber TE’s this year, wish guy from Notre Dame was eligible)
NT/DL
ILB
RB2

I think RB2 and LB are lowest priority and can wait until day 3.

I really like Linderbaum, Evan Neal and a number of EDGE guys this year. Also would not be surprised to see a CB chosen early (again)
2 OL and 2 DL/EDGE
bluewave : 10/9/2021 7:20 pm : link
I don't care how we get them but I want two interior OL, a DT, and a 3-4 DE. Lawrence is playing out of position. He's a 3-4 NT. I want a guy who's 6-4 to 6-6 about 290 to 310 for our DE.
Talent
thomasa510 : 10/9/2021 7:46 pm : link
Who the player is and their upside etc should go into it more than the position.

That out of the way I go defensive end or edge rusher. Getting an elite threat on defense is essential at this point and makes the whole defense better. It isn’t just the sacks, it is also the plays that get blown up and end in interceptions or incompletions.

With the second pick you can potentially get an incredible guard or center talent wise. Mid 1st round options will be plentiful.

Every time I watch the ND TE he is dropping the easiest passes. Like multiple times per game.

linebackers
If I had to choose one, I'd pick edge rusher.
Angel Eyes : 10/9/2021 8:17 pm : link
We haven't had a good, let alone great one, since Gettleman got the job and it shows this year since our edge rushers have barely gotten to the quarterback outside of Ojulari. For me, it's either Hutchinson or Karlaftis; Hutchinson's more of a true edge while Karlaftis will line up inside. I haven't seen too much of Karlaftis in the run game but Hutchinson sets the edge well; it's something that Joe Judge prizes in his edge players.

As for other needs, I'm primarily looking at OG/OT since Hernandez's contract is up and Solder's getting along in years, and TE since Engram's contract is up (he hasn't been that great anyways) and Rudolph's old and banged up. I also think the Giants should look into OLBs (different from edge rushers).
They should draft 2
Thegratefulhead : 10/9/2021 8:19 pm : link
They will compete and push each other.
I like what I am seeing

From the coaches now with this online. We need edge talent big time.
First-Round Edge Rushers are Bigger Risks Than OL
OntheRoad : 10/9/2021 9:00 pm : link

If the Giants feel there is a top pass rusher available with their first pick, that should be the choice. Interior OL, Interior DL, and Inside LB are next.
DJ is our best player.....
No Where Man : 10/9/2021 9:18 pm : link
Let's not make the same mistake that we did with Eli. As our priority, DJ must be fully supported. If Neal is there when we pick, he should be ours without any question.
I'm a firm believer in BPA but for discussion sake,
j_rud : 10/9/2021 9:22 pm : link
If they have identical grades on the top pass rusher and top OT I'd lean pass rusher. 9 times out of 10 If say OL but this D is brutal to watch without a consistent pass rush.
Not even close...
bw in dc : 10/9/2021 9:47 pm : link
Take OL. I don't like Thibodeaux if he's within reach of any of our picks.

Now, if Jones flattens out and is clearly not the solution, we would be wise to consider taking Malik Willis.

He has the remainder of the season to prove himself. That's more than enough time for the coaching staff to get a read on what they have in him. It's up to Wilson to practice his way onto the 53-man roster and warrant playing time. If he can't manage that in the next three months, chances are he's not the answer. But one way or the other, he won't still be a mystery come April of next year.
