one has faded away. RIP

was the original BBI training camp / locker room reporter and photographer.

Photography was his passion.

He also had a gift of relating to the lesser-known players on the team, to the point where they actively sought him out and gave him hugs after the 2000 NFC Championship Game.

I enjoyed his writing.

from the early days. Not to everyone’s tastes, but I loved some of his stories. I tend not to read player interviews but I made a point to read about his interactions with the “lesser” players.

Alzheimer's is an awful disease. I lost my grandfather to it and my grandmother was just diagnosed. My grandfather survived for years with it but it is devastating to see how much it destroys who you are. I can't think of a worse way to go.

here were about his government related life and I seem to remember some real good interaction between him and Bill2.

I really enjoyed his posts, especially his take on players and situations.

IIIRC he was also a big racing fan, especially Indy/ F1

news. I don't remember him, but he was obviously a beloved member of BBI. Prayers to his family and friends. RIP. God bless.

He was a hell of a good guy, I had the honor of talking to him as we were filing training camp reports from the UA computer room. We were waxing about Ron Dixon and his athletic potential and I remember him warning me to not get too excited. He saw what I saw on the practice field but his history with training camp was such that he swore for every guy who flashed there was a better chance he'd fall short of that potential instead of filling it. He was such a big fan and a great photographer. I used to wait for the David Oliver training camp reports like Christmas, he just had a way with words that painted a picture. Rest in peace sir.

Oliver's camp and training photos were godsends in August when we were all starved for football and info. He had a gift of photographing the players as people rather than just athletes.

A wonderful iconoclastic man. His insight, wisdom, and humor were a huge part of this place. His love of the underdogs and overachievers was palpable and enhanced my love of our team. Condolences to the family.

He was one of those posters that when you saw his handle you knew it would be good. Rest in peace.

On a related note, BBI should implement some sort of ring of honor for posters who made an impact like Oliver.

Oliver was a great guy and great friend. I was fortunate to spend time with him at camp and several games. loved his formula 1 and other racing photography. Reat in peace, Paisan.

May I add to all of the wonderful posts above that David was also a great American patriot.

He was a negotiator for us during the Cold War with several Iron Curtain countries and the Soviet Union. Starting in the Nixon years, David spent a lot of time in Moscow and more dangerously in Siberia.

He was on our team for the SALT talks and the Non Proliferation treaty. He did a lot of work on currency and trade negotiations in Asia and Central and Latin America.

In his later years of service he was working with the Yelstin and was a leader of the technical details behind the NAFTA Treaty.

David interacted with 6 Administration's and the DOD, Treasury, State and the CIA.

I write this to acknowledge that we do not know how lucky we were in that earlier version of BBI to be interacting with all kinds of perspectives and expertise. Some of those threads left members interacting with national level expertise but having no idea of that given the humility and discretion of posters like David.

He was a very good man with a wide range of interests and also dedicated to our futures as citizens of a great experiment.

A good life well lived and a very good man.

and he never shied away from voicing his opinion. RIP

I loved interacting with him over many years here on BBI and his photos were great. Thanks for sharing that about him Bill, a life well lived.

Didn’t know the man but it’s nice to see those who remember him so fondly. I hope he gets some good overhead pictures today of the Giants beating the Cowboys!

I had the pleasure of meeting Oliver in Albany for training camp. A delightful person. Passionate about sports and photography. Enjoyed reading his posts. Had a unique take on things and he expressed it well in his writing. Missed his presence on BBI. Sorry to learn of his passing.

His contributions have been missed around here for a long time. The kind of fan we should all aspire to become. So sorry to hear of his illness and passing. I hope his family can find peace.
