I totally blame Judge and the Giants' PR staff for the way they handled whatever conditions he had prior to the regular season. They had us thinking the kid was a slacker, stupid, and not a gamer, that he was a mistake first round pick. Fuck them. This kid is special.

To be fair, this is on us as fans not to believe everything you hear secondhand about players. It's not on the team. They weren't saying those things.

To be fair you have the owner of this board and the Jesus of this board (Sy) making Toney seems like some bad seed ever since we drafted him and people obviously take their words as gospel.

Honestly , who gives a shit about all that? All I care about is a guy isn’t going to face massive suspensions, comes in and works hard, and leaves it all on the field.

How many WRs are going to have the day KT had today and be absolutely fucking livid? That’s a dude who can play on my football team any day.

Him, DJ, and At are at least 3 cornerstone pieces moving forward.

Toney is another Odell talent wise
Vanzetti : 10/10/2021 7:52 pm : link
Let’s hope he can avoid the injuries and the diva behavior

He is different from Odell but every bit as good
If Toney develops into the top receiving weapon
BSIMatt : 10/10/2021 7:52 pm : link
On the team, this will be a problem for opposing corners. Following Golladay into slot is one thing, Diggs had no problem shadowing KG. KG goes out and Diggs gets a crack at Toney, he could not cover him. The same athleticism that lets him shake defenders with the ball in his hands also gets him ridiculous separation on routes. He’s a problem. That little hitch they threw him on first down, his acceleration ate up 10 yards so fast that first down looked easy.

You're incompetent as a poster.

Toney is a rookie who missed most of training camp and all of the pre-season games. Was he supposed to start game 1?

And it did't take 4 games for Toney to play either. Giants worked Toney in in games 2 and 3, before featuring him in game 4.
I love his intensity Just needs to tone it down a little
Payasdaddy : 10/10/2021 7:54 pm : link
And he is filthy in open space. Like watching saquon when he was good
And healthy
Heck EE showed up too
Sad thing is offense heating up
We have playmakers
Just , as usual, two more offense lineman needed
Hopefully BB and or SL part of that solution
Would expect next yrs draft to,produce an olineman in rd 1
Next 5 could be D for sure
Secondary ridiculous disappointing. Blake back will help but need a real edge
Ojulari can probably be answer and the second of a 1. 2. Punch at ER
Given the circumstances that was as good of a game
BestFeature : 10/10/2021 7:56 pm : link
played by a Giants rookie WR as any from Beckham or Cruz. Sure, he didn't get TDs but neither Beckham nor Cruz had to do it with all of the options out and the QB2 for most of the game.

I don't think that's fair towards Sy. He's very dialed in and essentially reports what he hears.

He also wrote this about Toney...

Quote:
Toney has joystick quickness and change of direction whether he is running routes or carrying the ball. He is the kind of guy that can miss contact in the phone booth and will always fight for more yards. Toney plays bigger and tougher than his frame suggests. It will be hard to find a more competitive spark plug than him.

Pretty damn accurate.

he doesn’t like to lose. Neither does Jones. They give the offense some swagger. Who does that on defense? I like that LW ripped the helmet off. The only DB hi has a clue is Love. Ryan and McKinney so t have a clue about playing 2 high. Both corners are way overpaid.
Ojalari will be a player, but not yet. Both inside backers are rubbish. Lawrence is not a 3 or 5 technique. and the nose tackles are jags . They BADLY misjudged the talent on defense.
Ironically, the OL held up fairly well considering the pressure Dallas was asserting. They sent 5,6,7 all FG all game. The tackles were OK. Price and Hernandez weren’t bad in the middle. The injuries - just ridiculous

But he also made it sound like he was a child molester on the side or something and wouldn't share what these character concerns are. Mind you, who knows he still might have them but reading that and his grade given by Sy a lot of people didn't like him.
Toney leads Giants in receptions right now

Uh, there was no suggestion whatsoever that Toney was guilty of anything that heinous.

I even pressed Sy on what he knew and he chose to keep it confidential. Does it really matter at this point? Or is this just settling some score with Sy because he doesn't bat 1.000 on draft projections?

That's not really fair. These whispered insinuations about draftees are a legitimate talking point. Asking why we do it and also go along with it as spectators is a real conversation to have. No one would be okay with this if they were the subject of such things.

No one bats 1.000 and I appreciate Sy's great contribution to this board. However, I do think that people tend to think he's infallible and also I'm not sure the cryptic "he did something bad but I won't tell you what it is" was fair to Toney. Almost worse that he didn't say.
I have been trashing the Toney pick.

Like I said, I pressed Sy on what he knew. And that was because I also thought it worth a deeper conversation. But Sy chose to not disclose his information.

I didn't hear it that way. My sense is/was Sy just didn't feel comfortable giving out specifics because the info was second hand. And maybe Sy had received reliable second info from that source before and thought it was at least credible enough to mention without revealing those specifics.

Was he really THAT far behind that he almost wasn't used at all the first 3 games? And if so is he just some insanely fast learner that he went from nothing to almost 200 yards (and would have been 200 yards if not for the injury)?

Nope — not even close.

- Brought an air rifle to a gun fight in college

Plus getting sick, which is probably better to not debate because of the politics.

Sy never implied it was something heinous besides a red flag, he said he has an issue(and maybe we saw it yesterday throwing a punch). He also said he got info from another scout he trusts very much. So yes 2nd hand, but reliable.

We can speculate all day long. But he never had an issue at UF again after the rifle incident his freshman year.

I really do not care. I also think throwing that punch will be the last time he ever does that. Guys like Golladay and Shepard will speak to him and probably have already.

Toney looks just like he did when he played for Florida, except now

He's had six 1st round picks, not four. Two (Thomas and Toney) appear to be fantastic, Lawrence is solid, Jones is rewarding DG's faith, but at some point we're going to have to wonder about injuries with him, Barkley is enormously talented, but the injuries make that a mediocre pick (and that was always one of the biggest concerns about taking a RB that high), Baker was a complete waste.

Giving him 3/4 is misleading at best, misinformed at worst.

I agree. When you look at what happened he was surrounded by Cowboys who kept going after the whistle, then got shoved after the pile broke up. Lost his cool for sure, but so did the defender. For now as a one off occurrence I'll take the fire. If it happens again, then it might be something to think differently about.
