Saquon's ankle not broken

pjcas18 : 10/10/2021 8:29 pm
obviously not out of the woods, sprains, especially the dreaded high ankle sprain is a weeks long injury, but I guess a break would have been season ending.

I’m told Saquon Barkley did NOT suffer a broken ankle, per source. #Giants avoid worst-case scenario. Sigh of relief.
Didn’t expect a break with the goose egg on his ankle

Hell still miss several weeks.

#Giants star RB Saquon Barkley is believed to have suffered a low-ankle sprain, sources say, an injury that likely knocks him out next week. He’ll have more tests, but he’s best characterized as week-to-week. A fast healer, Barkley will work to miss only one week.

did not look like a high ankle sprain to me, but definitely a bad sprain.
Doesn't

matter to be honest, but glad it's not broken. I doubt he'll be here after next year regardless.
Is this the same ankle he sprained back in 2019

?
That’s better than it looked

Figured 4 weeks with severe ligament damage. We’ll see.
A high ankle sprain we only be

if the ankle rolled the other way. That’s a pretty typical rolled ankle. He shouldn’t miss more than a game.
Bad sprains
Sammo85 : 10/10/2021 8:34 pm : link
can be a pain to recover from and can easily be aggravated. My guess is he will miss at least a couple weeks and be limited a bit even when he comes back.
He’ll be out 3-4 weeks, I never thought it was broken

That swelling is pretty normal for a bad ankle sprain for someone on their first go around.
When it swells that fast

It’s not a high ankle. If not broken (per reports) he’s looking at 1-3 games. Actually really good news
man, the worst ankle sprain I ever had
santacruzom : 10/10/2021 8:47 pm : link
was when my 3 year old threw a fit and punched me while I was carrying him down a plastic play structure with crappy steps. I caught my ankle and tumbled, couldn't get up for nearly 5 minutes, and thought, "Damn, this is gonna hurt for a while." By the time I got to the doctor my entire foot was bruised. Never had anything like that before or since.

Shockingly, I was walking on it with barely a limp within 5 days.
Here’s what David Chao tweeted right after the injury

First, in response to the swelling shown on tv:
Confirms significant lateral inversion ankle sprain.
Swelling is common when the shoe is removed.
First time ankle sprains cause more damage.
Not as bad as high ankle sprain but difficult to return given at least a grade 2 (of 3) sprain which means tearing of lateral ligaments.

Then a few minutes later:
Doubt fracture but certainly X-rays will be taken at stadium. Likely significant lateral inversion "basketball" type sprain. The fact that it seems to be first time on left ankle means more new tearing/damage. Likely to miss time and short term IR not off table.

that's 3-4 games weeks minimum

The swelling indicates a good amount of damage
We will see Saquon again after the bye week

It looked like DJ was severely concussed. It could be several weeks before we see him in the lineup. Not sure if DJ has a concussion history . Hope not.
I had a low ankle sprain after tripping over a curb...
jnoble : 10/10/2021 9:25 pm : link
..and my foot bent totally sideways like Saquan's did and swelled up just the same but I was only on crutches for a couple days and back to normal more or less by the end of the week. Hopefully he can do the same.
I had both high and low ankle sprains.....big difference
George from PA : 10/10/2021 9:46 pm : link
And being a low ankle sprain....

One, it can be taped...so its not of the question that he might play next week.

Seems like he averted a major injury
Glad it's not broken.

But he can't be missing games every single season. Ditto Jones.
"not out of the woods"
JohnnyFlowers : 10/10/2021 9:50 pm : link
he can't even get the out of the backfield across the line of scrimmage. Who gives a fuck about him. He will not be on the team next year.
I would shut him down all season..
prdave73 : 10/10/2021 10:27 pm : link
They need him back 100% for next season. It's obvious they are not going anywhere this season.
low ankle sprains
tomjgiant : 10/10/2021 10:49 pm : link
can heal very quickly. Ice,meds and rest and a few days later it can be on the mend.
I’m not a doc
AcesUp : 10/10/2021 10:56 pm : link
But everything I’ve seen on low ankle sprains is 1-2 weeks and it shouldn’t linger like even a mild high ankle sprain would. I’m guessing like everybody else but don’t think it’s nearly as bad as some think if it’s just the sprain.
Holy cow
Chocco : 10/10/2021 11:00 pm : link
It's an acute ankle sprain.
You won't know anything until Tuesday (at the very earliest). If anyone gives you a timetable now they are just guessing.

Sorry, but this is a really dumb idea.

You don't shut down any player (especially one of your best players) with an ankle sprain when there are 12 games left in the season.
