obviously not out of the woods, sprains, especially the dreaded high ankle sprain is a weeks long injury, but I guess a break would have been season ending.

I’m told Saquon Barkley did NOT suffer a broken ankle, per source. #Giants avoid worst-case scenario. Sigh of relief.

#Giants star RB Saquon Barkley is believed to have suffered a low-ankle sprain, sources say, an injury that likely knocks him out next week. He’ll have more tests, but he’s best characterized as week-to-week. A fast healer, Barkley will work to miss only one week.
Shockingly, I was walking on it with barely a limp within 5 days.
Confirms significant lateral inversion ankle sprain.
Swelling is common when the shoe is removed.
First time ankle sprains cause more damage.
Not as bad as high ankle sprain but difficult to return given at least a grade 2 (of 3) sprain which means tearing of lateral ligaments.
Then a few minutes later:
Doubt fracture but certainly X-rays will be taken at stadium. Likely significant lateral inversion "basketball" type sprain. The fact that it seems to be first time on left ankle means more new tearing/damage. Likely to miss time and short term IR not off table.

One, it can be taped...so its not of the question that he might play next week.
Seems like he averted a major injury
You won't know anything until Tuesday (at the very earliest). If anyone gives you a timetable now they are just guessing.
Sorry, but this is a really dumb idea.
You don't shut down any player (especially one of your best players) with an ankle sprain when there are 12 games left in the season.
