The Defense Was Supposed to Be The Strength of This Team

They were never as talented as many thought. There are no difference makers on that entire side. Our secondary in particular is not deserving of the hype.

2) The losses of Tomlinson and Martinez are really hurting and it's impossible to be good when you are weak in the middle.

3) Lack of pass rush. Carter and XMan are proving to be disappointing and Azeez needs to develop.

Safety play is ajoke. Ryan getting 12M next year is an issue. He is a depth player. McKinney him and Peppers are not what we all expected

At the end of the day, pass rush is the cure for most defensive woes outside of not stopping the run. We lost run stuffers with Hill and Tomlinson and replaced with a lard ass like Sheldon

and Uber's correct, the sum of its parts was greater in 2020 than the individual talent. Now in 2021, the NFL has figured them out and they're whipping them up front.

They do not play the run well, they do not tackle well, they are not multiple as evidenced by all the zone they play, and there is no standout at the LB level, which is crucial to a 3-4 base and creating a pass rush. Soft up the middle, no pass rush, and the backend is playing poorly so far.

This defense needs more parts.

Peppers, McKinney, Ryan, and Love and not one can play deep.

They were great in the redzone.

They gave up big drives last year as well

last year although they played well on some momentum as the season went along. But when faced with a good QB, they typically couldn't hold up.

This year they are just bad.

You can understand what's going on with the offense.

The defense has been remarkably healthy aside from losing Martinez.

They really had almost everyone fooled, including non-Giants fans. Everyone was expecting a solid D. Logan Ryan in particular is bugging the sh#t out of me. All the smack he talked and NOTHING. There's nothing worse than empty shit talk.

This year, nothing is working, and those same players are struggling or not showing up so far, which tends to happen on bad teams and/or in seaons with fading hopes.

The rules don't allow it. But the only chance a team has of consistently slowing down good NFL offenses is a consistent fierce pass rush. That's it. No pass rush makes QB's like Dak Prescott look unbeatable. No QB can function well if they're getting hit every time they drop back. See Brady, Tom Super Bowls 42 and 46.

The Giants have zero pass rush even with 5 guys no one can beat their man one on one. They have no speed off the edge.

I hate the term complimentary football but it's accurate. The teams with the best defenses have an offense that puts them in a position to succeed. It's easy to play defense in Dallas when they have an offense that can put up mid 30's or more every week.

Having said all of that the Giants HC and DC have been exposed this year.

I'm not saying the D doesn't have problems. It does. But the offense doesn't generate points. It doesn't pressure the other team. We never get a big lead. Give us a productive offense and the whole team would be a lot better.

This isn't true - at all. Go look at the stats. Tomlinson's play went up when Leo entered the team. What is this nonsense people type up on this message board?

They miss BJ Hill more than Tomlinson and it isn't close. Obviously Martinez out is a big loss, but Crowder is a huge drop-off. Ragland isn't much better, and he's a JAG.

The offense was hardly productive last year, with largely the same 2020 defense returning.

Carter Coughlin get some playing time in Martinez' absence. He showed good run stopping ability and was good rushing the passer.
