NFT: Knicks/NBA chat: 9 days until first game for Knicks

nygiants16 : 10/11/2021 9:14 am
Need thia season to start, the bright spot of New York sports right now is the New York Knicks?? crazy times we live in..

Steve Nash said yesterday they are preparing to play all home games without Kyrie.

James Harden will test free agency and accoring to Stephen A he is not happy with the craziness going on around the Nets.

Thunder will not win more than 10 games, that team is awful..

Westbrook 14 turnovers in 34 minutes of preseason, i dont know how him and Lebron fit
Excited and nervous
Ten Ton Hammer : 10/11/2021 9:17 am : link
They look great so far and I'm unreasonably terrified it won't carry over to the regular season.
Strange days

indeed.

Wanting to look forward to it but smart enough to know that I'll likely have my heart pulled from my chest.
If Knicks stay healthy

i dont think its if they make the playoffs, it is what seed will they get
It's all going to depend on if they
larryflower37 : 10/11/2021 9:33 am : link
Stay healthy especially at center and PG.
Walker and Rose scary the hell out of me, same with Robinson and Noel.
The floor spacing and shooting has been lights out during preseason and with a healthy team they can compete with anyone.
Might be one of the two or three deepest rosters in the sport

robbieballs2003 : 10/11/2021 9:53 am : link
But I have never seen a deeper Knicks team in my lifetime. It truly is impressive. Now, that doesn't guarantee anything and guys will be up and down so things will change but from top to bottom there is a reason to get excited. That's the strength of this team, not the top end talent but just the depth. Last year I was more excited to see our second unit. Our first unit was so fuckin boring. This year our starting unit is way more exciting with Kemba and Fournier but our second unit is still going to be exciting. Hopefully Thibs takes it a little easier with some of the starters minutes this year. There is no reason to play Randle 40+ min per game.
man im so ready for this season to start.....
Italianju : 10/11/2021 10:19 am : link
plus NBA is the one sport outside of the NFL where ill watch other games all the time. And i def need other things to watch right now, haha.

That nets team is going to be dysfunctional all year and then dominate the playoffs, lol. Assuming by then kyrie can play in home games for one reason or another. WIll be interesting to see what Harden does, even if he tests FA where is he going to go? How many teams would even have anywhere near the capspace to sign him. I guess if he really wants out the Nets could just S&T him.

The minutes are my concern too, and one of the few gripes a fan could have with Thibs. The regular season is played to the hilt, and when other teams step it up in the playoffs, his teams often don't have a next gear they've been saving.

Last year Randle lead the league in minutes, and RJ was second. And last year I pretty much agree with, save a handful of times. The culture needed to change, and Thibs brought that. But given the depth this year across the board, no Knick should lead the league in minutes. I hope that's the case, but I'll wait and see before making any declarations.
RJ is 7/14 from 3 so far...
Italianju : 10/11/2021 10:24 am : link
if he really is a 40% 3pt shooter moving forward wants his ceiling? Like a Paul George? My biggest concern is that with Kemba and Randle dominating the ball that RJ becomes a spot up shooter. His ability to get to the basket is a great skill, i dont want him to just settle for becoming a jump shooter (im looking at you John Starks)
i dont think Thibs teams struggle because....
Italianju : 10/11/2021 10:27 am : link
of the minutes i think they struggle because he has often made less talented teams look better. And that is just easier to do in the nba during the regular season. 9/10 times in the playoffs the team with more talent (or at least the more talented superstar) is going to win. I mean when he had MVP level Rose they made it pretty far but had to deal with the Heat so.

That's why I hate when people are like we need to trade him for an old star. We may have our own. He so young and just keeps getting better. It's exciting. He can drive when he wants even though that needs improvement. I'd like to see him develop a mid range game. If he had a pull up he'd be fuckin nasty.

To add to the Randle piece of this, one of the things that has stood out in the preseason and summer league is that Obi Toppin looks much more ready to contribute this year. I think you can cut back on Randle's minutes and feel comfortable that Toppin can hold his own and be a positive contributor.

I know the minutes are tough to find, but would love to see them find a way to get Toppin close to 20 minutes per night this year.

The best players on teams are going to play over 35 minutes a game, that is just the way it is in the NBA...Thibs is not doing anything crazier than other coaches

kinda reminds me of Danny Granger before the injuries. He play's more like him then Paul George
And yes
TommyWiseau : 10/11/2021 10:38 am : link
if Obi Toppin can continue this play, take some minutes/wear and tear off of Randle that would be huge. Especially if he can show something before the trade deadline. Maybe we can flip him with picks for an upgrade

Fair. And it's probably a combination of both. The Knicks are certainly not more talented than the Nets or Bucks. But they have depth and talent enough this year that winning a playoff series is well within reach. Over extending their guys in the regular season could make that harder/open the door to injuries (particularly with Kemba)

As for aforementioned Irving...just retire dude. He is one of the more annoying athletes I can recall in recent memory. I'm glad he's not a Knick because honestly I don't think I could root for him.

The Boston Celtics announced that veteran big man Al Horford has tested positive for COVID-19 on Tuesday afternoon, joining fellow likely starter Jaylen Brown in the NBA’s health and safety protocols while he waits out the required 10 days of quarantine or two negative tests for the viral malady.

No word at present as to whether it is an asymptomatic case, but the positive case means it is all but certain the Florida product will miss the remainder of the team’s preseason slate against the Orlando Magic on Oct. 13 and vs. the Miami Heat the following Friday. It is also possible that Horford may miss the Celtics’ season opener against the New York Knicks on Oct. 20, and perhaps even the team’s second game of the season as they host the Toronto Raptors on Oct. 22.

Can't see him being anywhere but Westchester this year given how many guards we have on the team already.

The East is so quirky this year with the unknowns of the Nets and the 76ers. You have a lot of teams that may not be top heavy but are good enough to grind throughout the year.

Knicks and Hawks may not have the talent as the Bucks or Nets... but they can easily get as high as the 2-3 seed IMo. Atlanta as well. Both teams just incredibly deep. if a team like Miami can stay healthy, they are team that can post a very good regular season record.

And at first I was very skeptical of the Bulls, but man they are scary good. The reason I like them is their best 4 players can provide their roles at a high level. Vuc can board and score and provide shooting. Derozen is very unselfish, like Vuc. Ball is a good defender and another decent shooter. Lavine is a superstar, but seems like he is pretty unselfish as well. I dont see an alpha dog between those 4. Just 4 really good players.

If Williams can provide a little shooting and defense to the starting 5, and Coby White turns into instant offense off the bench. Add Caruso and Derrick Jones off the bench.. They may need one more big. But I believe they are in the mix of playoff teams that can fight for a 4-5 spot if things fall right.
I think with the Nets
nygiants16 : 10/13/2021 9:34 am : link
They are going to have to rely on Harden and Durant way to much and i dont think they will play enough games. Playoff time is a different story..

Their bench is overrated, they have names but they are old and they are a small team, who plays zero defense..

Hawks i really wonder how Trae adjusts to the new rules, he thrives on getting to the line aton..

Bulls are going to have to prove to me the pieces mesh, Ball is an incinsistent shooter from 3 and derozan is nonexistant shooter from 3, i dont know how those 2 mesh, and they are going to play no defense..

Heat are an older team but will play hard every night and play defense, so if they dont score they are still going to be stopping teams.

All valid points. I just think the East is so much deeper than years past. Even a team like Boston has some really nice pieces. I think Schoeder was a nice under the radar signing for them. Indiana wont be an easy game if Warren and Lavert can stay healthy. I am not sold on Charlotte or Washington.

Just a lot of good teams. Just hope all of them stay healthy. I have no dog in any of the fight. Just like watching good games.

Exactly. Zero risk and the one missing piece this team could use is a stretch-four. So why not? Spurs took him in the first round and they’re known to draft good albeit unknown players. He’s only 21. Maybe there’s something here.

A good test of the Knicks developmental culture. He's a bit like Knox, IMO. Lots of talent, good size and good enough athlete, lacks that competitive drive. You can't make a guy want to compete. But maybe it's confidence and maturity and the Knicks can bring it out of him. Worth a shot on a two way.
