What happened to Darnay Holmes?

JoeyBigBlue : 10/11/2021 9:40 am
I was really high on this kid after last season. He was grabby and got called for it, but he was seemed to be around the ball a ton. This season, he hasn’t seen much of the field. Seems he has been surpassed on the depth chart by Rondarious Williams.
Just not that good

another example of a JAG fans build up in the off season on the basis of some perceived improvement in the final games of a season. Just like Lorenzo Carter, Oshane Ximines, Matt Peart.

Prime candidates for 2022: McKinney, Robinson, Ellerson Smith.
He

may get more playing time by default if R. Williams is hurt badly.
Better question.

Who was the last mid to late round player that we actually hit on? Outside of the 1st round (that's even questionable) who was the last difference maker we drafted on either side of the ball?
I was sure we’d found a player with him

Super high effort kid with a big time college resume and good physical skills. But it doesn’t seem like he’s developed. Who knows. Disappointing.

is the latest victim of the NYG inability to identify, draft and develop talent.

Nick Gates is literally the only example of a player (that I can think of) that was brought into the NYG system, showed the ability to play and then actually progressed rather than regress under the tutelage of the NYG coaching staff. Andrew Thomas seems to be on his way there as well.

BUT who else ya got?
I think Rodarius Williams was getting

Darnay's snaps, which doesn't speak well to what the coaching staff thinks of him. He may be another guy BBI has greatly overrated.
This was a comment I made on another thread

I'll also add that Darnay Holmes has

essentially been benched the last 2 weeks. Against the Falcons they played Rodarius Williams in nickel sets over him (albeit on the boundary), and last week we saw Love exclusively in as the nickel corner against the Saints.

The Giants want to play more 2 high man coverage, and they likely view him as a liability there.

I do believe they like him, but feel he's better in zone. I hate the 2 high looks this year vs the cover 3 that worked so well last year...but this is what they want to do and Darnay doesn't fit.

The fans "built up"? More like our GM and the coaches.
This whole coaches and GM built stuff is crap

The kid was pretty good when given the chance to play last season.

dozen draft picks into the defensive backfield.

Consider that. And then consider that after burning a dozen draft picks on various corners or safeties, until Peppers went down with an injury, the coaches did not trust a single one of those picks to start.... NONE OF THEM!

There have been a lot of complaints about Peppers and coverage, but so far he looks better than McKinney and Love.
What I heard last year
JonC : 10/11/2021 12:27 pm : link
was he plays too undisciplined, and it will wind up wearing on the coaches. Too aggressive, grabby, etc tends to mean he's probably going off script, trying to do too much, etc.

He is great at holding WR's in coverage.
