Dead cap , Trades, Etc.

NYG007 : 10/11/2021 10:36 am
Happy Blue Monday fellow diehards. Typically we start to see our cap expert members post some scenarios around about now. Anyone have any insight on who we can dump to to other teams while they still have value, and what would the cap/dead money impacts be?

Clearly, anyone on D is tradeable outside of the young draft picks in their first contracts. On O, I don't see anyone going other than a Kyle Rudolf who appears to not be able to run anymore, etc. Looking forward to the annual summaries and to see if anyone is tradeable at the deadline before new GM takes over next year.
The problem with trading these guys
Koffman : 10/11/2021 10:38 am : link
is that nobody wanted them when we signed, much less now.
I would trade almost anyone on the offensive side
Section331 : 10/11/2021 10:42 am : link
except AT, Toney and probably Jones. Someone wants to give up a mid-round pick for Barkley? See ya. Will Hernandez? I'll help him pack. I like Shep, but he is always hurt. Golladay looks like he might have that issue too. Engram could be a piece for a contender. Accumulate draft picks.
The situation is pretty dire

In terms of cap space for 2022. No room projected and very few opportunities to create more space without taking on huge numbers of dead cap space.

The only tradeable contracts this year are Engram and Barkley, but who is going to trade for either of those?

Next off season there are not really any tradable contracts without taking on huge dead cap penalties.

It's nearly inevitable that Golloday, Bradberry, Ryan, Jackson, Williams and likely Shepard will be playing for the Giants in 2022 no matter how they perform this year. Together those guys will make up 50% of the cape space for 2022 (over 110 million).

Like I said: it's dire.
I would expect one of Slayton/Ross to be traded

they have similar skillsets, and when WRs are healthy (Golladay, Shep, Toney, Slayton, Ross, Johnson, Board, that is a pretty crowded room

Ouch. That is not good. Appears we'll have to take on dead hits and go young on D via draft picks.

I could see Bradberry and Ryan as post June 1st cuts, there will be dead money (mistakes have a cost) but it will also free up about 19m cap space. Between Golladay, Jackson and Williams they have 42m in salary that COULD be converted to bonus IF you want them around a couple more years.
If you listen to one crowd on BBI
JonC : 10/11/2021 11:07 am : link
there's absolutely zero negative cap impacts ever, you can always maneuver around it.
Engram is only one....and many will be very disappointed with "new GM"

If DG retires.....you think the Giants are tearing it all down?

The new system DG brought in and the new scouts with new guidelines....will be gone?

I suspect not.

Giants went all in this season by spending $200M, which has left us with little cap room for 2022. More great work from DG and the FO.
LOL ...
Beer Man : 10/11/2021 11:50 am : link
Last week the team was on top of the world, optimism was running wild on BBI, and the sky was the limit. This week the team failed, took on a number of injuries to their play makers, and now BBI is all doom and gloom and wants half the team traded and the other half cut.
5 draft picks in the first 70 picks or so( fins 3rd rd will be high)
Payasdaddy : 10/11/2021 11:59 am : link
New GM should be able to draft 5 of the 10 players needs
Let EE, jabril and WH walk
Seriously I can’t get behind extending saquon, obviously injuries ( although yesterday an accident more than playing injury)
If he shows health and does something when he comes back, I am showcasing him to trade before the draft
Yes. At that point , I think u can get a 2nd rd picks or a 3 and 5
On another team, he is a weapon.
Draft well, develop. Forget filling up roster in FA. 2022 tied up in salary
2023 should be able to open up a lot of cap room without a lot of dead money

No matter the outcome, no matter who they lose, and what positions are weakened -- the Giants did exactly what they wanted = )
Engram

is probably the only one of value at this point. His value is probably higher than most of us think. maybe a 3 or 4 to a team desperate.
