Duggan recommends Giants try to trade Engram to Cards

@RapSheet

#AZCardinals TE Maxx Williams is feared to have suffered a major, season-ending knee injury on Sunday, source said. Williams, who has emerged as an important target for QB Kyler Murray, took a hard shot to his right knee and was quickly ruled out.

Dan Duggan

@DDuggan21
Always felt like the type of offense Evan Engram could thrive in. Giants have to be on the phone with Steve Keim today...
We’ll get a 5th round pick if we’re lucky

I’d rather we let him walk and get a compensatory pick
Best for all

parties, truly. Engram played well yesterday.

Maybe - depends on a weird formula. I'd trade him - takes salary off this season and guarantees a pick.
It's an obvious move...
Josh in the City : 10/11/2021 11:13 am : link
...this team should be unloading as many tradeable assets as possible at this point. Our salary cap situation is a disaster thanks to Mara allowing a lame duck GM to make splashy offseason signings to try and salvage his own employment. The roster is also extraordinarily flawed in the fact that it's built from the outside in on offense and no pass rush on defense.

We obviously can't afford to exacerbate the drafting of a RB at #2 overall (when we could have had Josh Allen), by signing him to any sort of significant contract...especially given our cap position. And while I'm still on the fence on Daniel Jones, there's a chance you will have to give him a significant contract in the next 1-2 yrs which will result in substantially less cap allocation for the rest of the roster.

There is just no way you can bring Gettleman back so it's time to free up as many resources as possible.
I wouldn't mind
Carson53 : 10/11/2021 11:14 am : link
been saying it for a couple years. Trade deadline is a couple weeks away.

We spent a ton of money this offseason. I don’t see us having a big free agency 2 years in a row.

Please take him. A 5th would be gravy! He needs a change in scenery away from the Giants. And the Giants need a change of scenery away from him.

I would trade him
Jim in Forest Hills : 10/11/2021 11:18 am : link
there will be suitors that think they can fix him. NO, AZ, LAR.
maybe we can get Murray

since we need a QB. [/sarcasm]
Yes please

If Barkley comes back and they are 1-7

I would see if the 49ers are interested.
Don't
AcidTest : 10/11/2021 11:19 am : link
see it happening for a fifth, especially given all of our injuries at WR, including now Golladay. The Giants also clearly value Engram a lot more than almost anyone here.

Keep in mind, the compensatory pick would be for the 2023 draft, not 2022. So if someone offers a 5th rounder right now, that has to be more attractive than waiting a full extra year.
Does anyone see Gettleman trading for future resources
j_rud : 10/11/2021 11:31 am : link
when his seat is getting warm? Unless he has a mandate from above, be it directing him to make a trade or assuring him his job is safe, I can't see him doing it.

It would be hard to fathom. We finish the season against the Bears, Washington and Philly in some order - DG is probably hoping for a strong finish against weak competition to save his ass.
Been hoping they’d trade him

Shepard, Slayton and probably Golladay will be back, long before the trade deadline.
This is another reason to dump DG now. There is no way they can re-sign Engram - there is no cap room. Trade him, dump salary and get a pick.
They cant trade him soon enough. Why can the fans see it
Blue21 : 10/11/2021 11:42 am : link
and not the coaches. Didn't show up for 3 qtrs then in the 4th after they've been blown out he appears.

What? You take the draft pick you can get now. Comp picks aren't guaranteed and honestly I think a team like the Cards might pay up knowing they are in the hunt for the SB!

Yeah, his best catch was in the 2nd quarter, IIRC..I did not see him drop a ball either

It’d be a 5th rd comp pick.
He actually looked good yesterday, when used; that might be a good selling point on a trade.

Yeah I agree the Giants need to make a determination what a comp bring would bring on Engram.

He's no way coming back to play for NYG on a new contract in 2022, so you either trade now or wait if the compensation could be better.
If I did trade him
bc4life : 10/11/2021 12:11 pm : link
I would be looking to a team with a deep Oline and see what breakout guard they may have on their bench
Frankly
David B. : 10/11/2021 12:33 pm : link
If they're going to trade him, I'd prefer a starter-calibre player at another position rather than a draft pick. OL, LB. It would be too much to expect to get a pass rusher.

But why would anyone trade for him when they can sign him as an FA at the end of the season. Unless they lost their TE to injury this year.
I would want the cards 4th rounder.
Payasdaddy : 10/11/2021 3:40 pm : link
Maybe we throw in a 6th I want to accumulate draft picks but I want them all in the first 150 picks
Heck, depending on where our 2nd first rd pick is, I would be trading down 5-10 spots and grabbing an xtra 3 and 5 too
9 picks in top 150, purge the dead weight once again, I would give JJ one more yr with a new OC and maybe PG goes too
Graham lack of performance on D has totally blew his chance for HC this yr
I wanted the 2 3rd rd for grabbing a minority HC
Don’t see that happening
Anybody have an unremarkable OLB...
Racer : 10/11/2021 3:44 pm : link
..under age 27 that can take on a guard in the run game?
Don’t do it
5BowlsSoon : 10/11/2021 3:55 pm : link
Engram is worth far more than a 5th. Like someone said, we could do better getting a compensatory pick if he left us.

Besides, it appears this year will just end up being án evaluating year so why not use it for that- evaluate Engram, Jones, Barkley, Peppers….especially the guys who will be free agents.
That would be a good trade
ghost718 : 10/11/2021 4:27 pm : link
The acquired leftover Josh Rosen jersey could fetch big money with this fan base.
I don't like him for Kingsbury's offense at all.
mittenedman : 10/11/2021 4:32 pm : link
They attack the edges with the run game - he'd be a huge liability.
Trade for a LB...
BamaBlue : 10/11/2021 4:32 pm : link
that can tackle and cover a TE running a slant route.
