Rudolph - still no answer

Matt M. : 10/11/2021 12:13 pm
Why did we sign him? He's never a primary target, he's not playing TE1 snaps and sometimes is even on the bench for 2 TE sets. What was the point, especially after knowing he was injured. Hell, they don't even target Engram all that often. So, really what's the point?

Another washed up misevaluation.

Another poor FA decision by Gettleman
Jay on the Island : 10/11/2021 12:16 pm : link
I will admit that I was a big fan of the move but Rudolph just looks done when he's out there. It's a bad sign that he's losing snaps with only Engram and Smith on the roster at TE.

going after him for looking back at the "Toney-punch" scrum and walking away off the field.
I miss Nasty Nick Gates.

He also could be far behind in conditioning. I’m gonna let another month go by before weighing in on that. And yes, he could be toast
I got blasted on here for criticizing that deal

It was so fucking obvious that he was WASHED last year. But hey we are basically paying him just 10 mill for this year.
This guy

Walks away from the scuffle looks back continues to walk off. While I’m not advocating he fight he was close to the situation could have tried to diffuse. He just seem like he don’t care about much makes it hard to root for him.
Review the DJ goal line play
richinpa : 10/11/2021 12:21 pm : link
Rudolph engages for a 2 second block and doesn't do his job. He doesn't stick with it and go after his assignment.

otherwise, DJ would have been 1:1 and went to the cones. Play over. Maybe TD

Yup. He needed to seal the edge defender, and whiffed.

Instead of engaging the lone defender for a TD and that atrocious half-ass effort at blocking on the DJ injury play, I am convinced he is putting forth the minimal effort to get a paycheck
he was signed as a 2nd TE and he's playing like a 2nd TE
Eric on Li : 10/11/2021 12:33 pm : link
he had a decent catch yesterday for a first down and has had a decent catch rate on the year (7 catches in 11 targets). he's basically gotten them 1 extra first down per game.

Not sure how his blocking has been (haven't read anything good or bad) but statistically he doesn't seem so far off from what 2nd TE's do on teams that invested in 2 and they didn't pay him that much relative to some of those other teams. A bunch of them have paid their 2nd TE more than him (Hooper, Doyle, Jonnu, Brate, Jarwin, Graham, Boyle).

there isn't a single nyg dollar spent that looks good right now so he's pretty far down the list of mistakes if today was the day final grades were due.
I thought it was a good signing at the time, but he has been
Victor in CT : 10/11/2021 12:35 pm : link
disappointing. If's he's hurt so that he can't compete he shouldn't be playing. If he's healthy, then he's either done or just looking to collect for the season and not get hurt.

sign two aging vets with there best days way behind them in Devonte Booker and Kyle Rudolph instead of finding two young guys that simply could replace there production relatively easier.

And invest more money into the offensive line or find an edge rusher.

Someone will say its only $6 MM for Ruldolph...well when you add Booker its now close to 10 MM. Now you are starting to get to a position where you can hand a decent player some money to help out in a position of need.

Nothing Booker or Ruldoph can do can't be replicated by Kaden Smith or Gary Brightwell.

Laughing stock. Only DG would make this happen.

Back to the drawing board I suppose.

Samiam : 10/11/2021 12:47 pm : link
I don’t think signing him was the mistake. If healthy, he would have contributed to the team if only as a red zone target. What I don't understand was not modifying the deal substantially when he failed the physical. I think he’s clearly way too slow now and wondering if he’ll need a full year to recover if he can ever get it back. By the way, I thought he’s getting $8 m a year, not $6. And, he has a 2 year deal with guaranteed money. What the hell was DG thinking when Rudolph had to have Liz franc?

That's just it. Was he signed as a TE2? If so, that, in and of itself, is a problem. Because proceeding with Engram as TE1 is a mistake. Many were hoping Rudolph signing would mean Engram exiting. Instead Engram remains TE1 and Rudolph is not even clearly TE2. This offense is very curious in it;s personnel and playcalling, and Rudolph is right in there.

Went back and watched the play and boy are you spot on. That was a piss poor block. He also could have come off the block and leaked into the end zone which would have given Jones a target. Rudolph is a disgrace. He should be cut today.
The original idea to sign him was a miscalculation,
Section331 : 10/11/2021 1:18 pm : link
but to honor the terms of the original deal even AFTER his knee injury was revealed is on its own a fireable offense. What an unmitigated disaster Gettleman has been.

Even about money because it is a short deal.

But he seems to not care as much and doesn't fight the way Gates did to pick up other players or help his QB.

Being washed is one thing. Phoning it in is another.

Ok While i am not saying all signing have worked these 2 have.. Rudolphhs mostly stayed in to block he was on Solders side quite a bit the last few games hes played. Booker has been a God send gave us depth sure but also can handle QB rushes very well.

This is the dumbest recurring thought in history.

Nobody on BBI is paid to be the Giants GM. Dave Gettleman is.

What "we" want collectively, as if it's even possible for there to be a consensus on such a thing, is irrelevant.

It's Dave Gettleman's job to put a winning team together, and he's a fucking failure.

Mostly staying in to help the tackles? He’s probably the main reason Solder appeared slightly competent earlier this season.

His fumble recovery also is why we aren’t winless.

Rudolph is on pace for 24/240/0TD/141D season.

I was hoping he'd be more of a 1B type tight end, but he's a number 2.

Rudolph...
bw in dc : 10/11/2021 4:10 pm : link
is one of the imbeciles - along with Wes Martin - who basically got Jones knocked out of the game with some of the worst attempts at blocking you'll see.

I said it on another thread - I would cut Rudolph today after that.
