Gettleman still has the keys and trade deadline looms

GiantTuff1 : 10/11/2021 1:35 pm
Giants are 1-4 and it looks like things will be getting worse as injuries pile up. If you are Mara / Giants brass and it looks like things are heading toward divorce with Gettleman do you yank the keys from Gettleman now so he doesn't make some desperate stupid moves to "save the season" or extend his leash?

I am very concerned that someone who is likely to be fired would still be able to make decisions about the future of this team. In a normal corporate environment I think his ass would be grass so that he couldn't hurt the team any more.

Typically I don't like in-season dismissals, but with the season lost again, I really see no upside in keeping him around unless they think the "distraction" will somehow make our team play even worse and that is somehow a factor.

Will Mara cave to feeding the sharks blood sooner, or will he hold fort and let his buddy go gracefully at season's end? What do you think?
DG shouldn't be making long term moves

on behalf of the franchise, but I don't see him getting fired. Perhaps that'll change if the Rams smoke us on Sunday & the fans-already ornery to begin with-raise holy hell? One can hope.
If I'm an owner

I don't need to make decisions along these lines, because I hold the ultimate veto over any decision made by an employee. I don't need to force a timeline.
He has to be removed.

He's making the cover up worse than his crimes with all of his contract restructuring. He's making his guys look less attractive for potential trades.
The Giants don't have cap space

so it doesn't really matter.

But, all the rumors this off season were that Gettleman wasn't even in control then and that Judge and Co. were running the show. I'd expect that to continue.

Sure. So do you think that edict has or will come down? And if it will, if there really a point of keeping DG when the emperor has no clothes, and you can actively start searching for the new GM.

To be fair - DG traded back twice - acquiring draft capital for next year. I think he'd do whats best regardless of his own situation.

I honestly don't know where the Giants are at with that. My guess based on how this team tends to operate is that a decision won't be made this early, not until season's end or at least near it.
I am no DG fan but

Do not expect Mara to fire him mid season.

DG is not responsible for all of the injuries this team has.

Whether you think DG should be able to make long term moves or not, you are not the owner. The owner while incompetent, does have a process he uses.
YES

Get rid of Getts, yesterday. Prevent Mara from cowering behind the excuse of 'improvement' in retaining him again this offseason when we pick up a few meaningless wins downs the stretch to queer our draft position again. Of course, it's never going to happen (firing Getts in season, that is).
The best time

To fire Gettleman was with Shurmur.
The next best time to fire Gettleman is today.
I'm not as concerned about the moves he might make
santacruzom : 10/11/2021 2:59 pm : link
as I am about the moves he might NOT make. Will he turn down potentially beneficial offers because he doesn't want to compromise the present for the future?

The injuries???????????? Like this was a good team when healthy? 1-4!!! I was wathcinng old games on you tube -- the Giants played the Colts in 2006 on opening day and looked good!!! The D could actually stop someone. They looked like a good pro team. (Same with the colts)
For better or worse

I don't think DG can make a trade without Mara's approval

Jerry Reese wasn't responsible for an avalanche of injuries, either. Didn't save him.
