Seeing Jones stumble around

jc in c-ville : 10/11/2021 3:23 pm
Was a terribly uneasy look for anyone to see. That was horrific.

Normally, when someone gets their bell rung like that, they keep him on the carpet for a few minutes but once he got up, quickly, it was obvious that his mental state was dimished to the point he couldn't even walk. Scared the shit out of me to see our QB, or any player at any level look like that.

Not a doctor but he sprang right up, should the refs/trainers upon seeing this immediately instructed him back to the ground to lay it out for a few minutes?

Should they hold him out regardless if he passes the protocol?

It will be interesting how this plays out health concerns aside as a big part of his game is the ability to take off with the football and pick up first downs with his legs.

Granted, that play doesn't warrant a slide first approach at the goal line but going forward, wonder how gun shy he will be to take off and run.

After that play, any helmet to helmet ( happens on sacks ) going forward is going to warrant major concern.

any enthusiasm I felt for the Giants season. A you g QB, with his warts, but with a strong will and competitive spirit, trying to make a play with a poorly constructed roster and team that is poorly coached in all facets. I’m not the biggest DJ supporter, but in that moment I realized how lousy and joyless being a Giants fan has been. Body bags to the damn Cowboys, who are now seeming to gloat about giving him a concussion. With the right management and coaching, he should have never been put into a position to have had to be the one to try to make a dangerous play like that. This whole team and brand is lousy.
That was a nasty concussion

and though I want us to win games, I would hope they hold him out at least 1 week. With the Oline is such a flux anyway, the Rams Pass Rush might not be the best to try and get healthy against.

When I was still a lacrosse coach
Jonesin 4 A Ship : 10/11/2021 3:35 pm : link
We were playing a team that had no business being on the field. They had no discipline, no sportsmanship. They were simply there to knock heads and obviously not play the sport as it was meant to be. They straight up took a cheap shot to the front and back of one of our players when he didn’t even have the ball…..a vicious and completely illegal hit. This player had no idea where he was, he was stumbling like a drunk and slurring his speech. I had him lay down immediately and took all the steps I could. It was a frightening day for me as a coach. It ended this promising young players career and his ability to play sports in general. Concussions are no joke

If Andrew Thomas is not playing and/or Peart does not replace Solder at RT then Glennon should start versus the Rams.

how much "damage" was done without an exam. I expect he will be out next week, but it absolutely will not surprise me if he clears by Thursday. Different people have different reactions to the same trauma.
Clint Frazier banged his head against a wire fence and to me it was not even hard. Yet, he still is having issues almost two years on.

I am pretty certain, unlike the Eagles med staff, Jones will be properly treated.
I don’t see any way

Jones passed protocol and is ready to play this week. He could be out quite awhile
I didn’t see the game yesterday

But saw a replay of that hit. I don’t care how long Jones sits, he is the most valuable player on this roster and should only come back after he is cleared and healthy. That was a bad concussion and I truly hope he can come back and be the same player. Can’t afford him getting the David Carr syndrome.

Popped back up and ran to the center of the math and just dropped and woke up a few minutes later. Its really just instinct jumping in that propels you up, I was likely unconscious on my feet.

Oddly the concussion passed within about 3 days. Sometimes the looks of these things aren't indicative of how serious the concussion really is.

same. At this point all I hope to see is him come back and get his own game back on track and stay healthy going into the offseason.

Didn't think there could be a more joy-killing injury than Cruz.

Then didn't think there could be one worse than Barkley last year.

And then seeing the close up of Jones dazed and stumbling was somehow worse than both by a lot.
You know what was stupid?

Not having a WR at that side of the field in case the defense is there to stuff the bootleg.
As a fan, it was devastating
GiantNatty : 10/11/2021 4:38 pm : link
and I don’t say that lightly. He was coming off maybe his best game. Head to head against Dak and a chance to really make people take notice of him. Instead, the image of him stumbling is what people will remember. I felt - and still feel - awful for him and his family and his teammates. I believe he’s a good kid who deserves much better than that.

I thought maybe he had whiplash or something with his inner ear that caused his balance to be lost, but the spit on his lips said it all. It was a bad concussion.

I always have hope that a man can beat the odds and rise from adversity. But I also understand that we may not see him again this year. I understand that we may not see him start another game again. I understand that if we see him again, he may not ever be the same player. Never mind how far back it set the Giants back yesterday, this season, and potentially well beyond. I’m not saying any of this will happen, but all possibilities are on the table after a hit like that - I honestly don’t remember ever seeing someone that out of it due to a concussion and then playing meaningful games again in their career. And all of this makes me very sad, really, because I had grown to really like the player and the person. He was the guy I looked forward to watching the most.

Wishing him all the best for a full recovery…

Yes, and someone else said Rudolph (that young tiger TE with fresh legs) tried to get free for a roll with Jones. I can't say I saw it, but with that formation and so much tangle on both lines, not surprising KR could not unlock.

yes. I forget who it was, but one Cowboy saw it and immediately went over to him. That was scary. He looked like fighter who had been pummeled for 6 rounds but wouldn't go down.

Scarier is that a generation ago they would have said he had his bell rung, gave him some smelling salts and sent him back in to start the 2nd half. That's one thing Aikman knows all about.

the OP's keaton's, Ned's and Eric's feeling of gut punch and 'ohh, just f_ck this season.

Whoever above said he might be back in a week if he passes protocol: yeah, maybe the same, crack Giants' medical staff who in 2020 put him back out there the 2nd game after what was an obvious bad hamstring pull, where Jones was a statue.

When Jones hit the turf after the helmet-to-helmet, you could see white spittle coming out of his mouth. It's true that each individual reacts differently to head trauma, but with that hit--protocol be effing damned--if he doesn't sit at least a month to be ultra cautious with the kid, this franchise can go to hell.

I guess you did not notice he had the little black rubber pieces in his mouth and that was what he was spitting out...

He may be out a month, he may be done for the year. Can all you neurosurgeons wait until the report comes out.

It's weird how, when boxers are concussed, they have 10 seconds to shake it off..get up and continue fighting

But in football, you're usually out of active for 2 weeks

Weird

if boxers are wobbly the ref stops the fight - even if they don't go down.

they have 10 seconds to get up if they get knocked down.

The fact that they had to take him off the field on a cart .... dam.

I agree. I had no idea how much this kid meant to me until I saw that horrible moment on television. My heart sank.

I do believe however, that he will return a smarter player, and if this team doesn’t rally around their leader, then they need to question their integrity.

Looking a slow mo, Jones started the head on head connection as he laterally dove in. Now, of course he is trying to sneak through a hole before the boom was lowered, but self-preservation needs to be taught as well. Live to fight another day. He had zero chance to get to the stick but he should have targeted the stick and not try to pivot headfirst in hot pursuit. It was an OK call, but the OLine and running game is just so bad the Dallas D didn't flinch on that trick. Our red zone management is so bad everybody is looking for that QB run

I'm not sure I'd classify that as a bit loopy. I've been a bit loopy after slipping on ice and slamming my head.

For all of us, including Jones, it's wait and see for the next couple of days. But based on how he looked, in my uneducated opinion, I don't think he'll be playing against LAR

Like I said earlier - Clint Frazier banged his head on a cyclone wire fence about two spring trainings ago and never had any immediate symptoms and yet has had recurring issues.

As some one else said, Mahomes was clearly woozy in a game where he banged his head hard on the ground and cleared immediately. Every head injury is different. I would not rule out next week nor would I be surprised at over two weeks.
