Am I just a bitter Yankees fan or does the idea of a Red Sox/Astros ALCS coming of sign stealing scandals in 2019 piss anyone else off?
I especially hat the Cora adversity narrative. After having to be out for a whole fucking year.

Honestly the league should just allow sign stealing officially. Because their weak ass stance did nothing to deter the Astros/ Red Sox or any other team from doing it.

Probably just a bitter Yankees fan
I'm fully prepared for a Red Sox/Astros ALCS

I'm just hoping the NL team they face in the World Series is up to the task of stopping the winner.

a bitter Yankees fan and so am I. I had to root for the Rays.

BTW, Kevin Cash just lost his brilliant manager status. Pitching to Kike Hernandez - the hottest Red Sox batter.
I want waxth a second of the ALCS

Fuck both these teams. Go NL

I haven't watched a minute of baseball--just checked out the box scores--since the wildcard game, though I never would have thought the Red Sox would have beaten Tampa. After the Rays won the first game 6-0 and Sale gave up 5 runs in the 1st inning of Game 2, what odds could you have gotten that Boston would go on to win the series?

Between the Giants and the Yankees, things have been tough sports-wise of late. There's only so many times I can re-watch the "make them go to Manningham" highlights.
The Red Sox in the ALCS?
schabadoo : 10/12/2021 12:11 am : link
It was agreed here after they spanked the Yanks that Tampa would crush them.

Btw, Manfred cited a few teams, I thought. The Yankees, the Red Sox.

The Yankees were just an afterthought to make Manfred not appear to be overly punitive to Houston and Red Sox.

I hope the off season...

Brings about a change in thinking/strategy for the NY Yankees. Watching the teams that made the final 8, what are some of the things they have in common?

contact hitting (some HR's will come too, so the marketing dept. will be happy)
aggressive but smart base running
solid defense
good bullpen management

I am not saying that each of the final teams do this perfectly every game, but there is a basic philosophy that these teams have embraced, while the Yankees have maintained a worn-out, tired, unbalanced strategy for many years. Getting surpassed by all of these teams still has not registered with the Yankees. Or, they can't change because they are so entrenched in big contracts that don't payoff with production. (Yes, Stanton finally started earning his money...) The reality check needs to start at the top.

Not that I like Tampa, Sox, Astros, but I do respect their overall management and individuals' desire/fire to play.

What was really crazy is that the Rays were a high BA and HR team and got stymied by the sad Red Sox bull pen. On paper and what transpired through the season in no way explains how the Rays totally collapsed.
I hope a sinkhole opens up in the earth and swallows both teams up

in a fiery cauldron of magma
Also the Rays weren't a high BA team
Greg from LI : 10/12/2021 9:05 am : link
High homers, yes. They scored runs this season way ahead of what you would expect given their BA and OBP.
Devers and Torres were on equal footing a couple of years ago.
Jim in Hoboken : 10/12/2021 9:51 am : link
What happened?

Our outlook would be so much better if Andujar, Frazier, Severino, Sanchez, and Torres all stayed healthy and developed as expected. What happened?

Blame coaching? Bad luck?

Devers lost a ton of weight to improve his athleticism, just like Vlad, Jr(who still needs to lose another 40 lbs.)

I have no idea what happened to Torres bat. It wasn't smoke and mirrors that got him 38 hrs. I suspect part of it is the inane launch angle nonsense and video of his weaknesses - like chasing high inside FBs which he always did and still does.
In his 38 homer season, Torres had a fair bit of luck
Greg from LI : 10/12/2021 11:07 am : link
He's never been an exit-velocity monster, and a decent percentage of his homers were wall scrapers. If you subscribe to the theory that the ball were juiced a few years ago and not now, that would lead one to surmise that a bunch of his homers from a few years ago turned into warning track flyouts this year.

And didn't he have like 12 of them at Camden Yards??
I really hope the Chisox can pull it off to beat Houston so I

can root for something.
I said watch Boston beat TB in the NYY play in thread
The_Boss : 10/12/2021 11:49 am : link
They did.
Now I don’t think they beat Houston, but the way 2021 has gone as NYY fans, would it be a surprise to see them win it all at this point? Meanwhile Cashman is plotting how to add more RH lumberjacks to the lineup in 2022…this last line is facetious, but it’s annoying how Boston has rebuilt everything quick enough to get into the ALCS, while the Yanks are trending backwards with each passing season.
Whoever comes out of the NL
Stan in LA : 10/12/2021 12:01 pm : link
Will beat the Sox/Astros, so don't worry.
of course, I didn't want anyone to win that series
bigbluehoya : 10/12/2021 12:14 pm : link
but honestly I preferred seeing the Sox advance vs the Rays.

I really can't stand the Rays. It's a very smug, smartest-guy-in-the-room air of superiority.

Now I'm all systems go on Boston losing. I'll be really surprised if their mediocre starting pitching doesn't catch up with them.

I don't think they get by Houston....and then we need to start rooting against THEM....

Oy vey.

He had 13 against the Orioles, not sure where. But most where in Camden Yards I believe. Most of them were pretty long.

Thanks. I remember the clip of Gary Thorne losing his mind on the Os broadcast because they kept pitching to him.
