Skinner OL Report Sweet Jesus Solder is an abomination

Now Mike in MD : 10/12/2021 1:58 pm
Solder might be the worst football player I have ever seen at this moment. To call him nothing more than a speed bump is an insult to speed bumps. I have never seen an OL just get pushed back so quickly and so consistently.

On a positive note, Peart looked pretty good
SKinner OL Report - ( New Window )
Solder was practicing and playing at RT for 5 months

5min before he was asked to play LT...

Thomas is probably the least replaceable player
I rewatched the game

Just to watch Solder and Peart.

100% agree- Gregory was pouring in…Jones and Glennon did well to avoid sacks.

Peart looked very good. He needs to be our starting RT now, no matter what.

mean if your options are one looking good and the other looking awful, at least these are the options we'd want right? lol
LOL
Straw Hat : 10/12/2021 2:02 pm : link
Yeah it’s legendarily bad. If peart isnt starting at RT when AT returns….. oh boy.
Look at the Pats Eagles SB a few years ago
JohnF : 10/12/2021 2:03 pm : link
Solder cost Tom Brady another ring when he got abused in the 4th quarter. Then DG signs him to a monster contract, smh. It was obvious to a blind man that Solder was done at that point.

Uhm you mean his natural position for a decade? Yeah.
Didn't need Bobby

Solder didn't forget how to play Left Tackle. That is exactly how he looked when he played there during the 2019 season.

He was never great...
Johnny5 : 10/12/2021 2:17 pm : link
... but he was a WHOLE lot better before his son got sick. He just never was the same player after that.
I looked at Solder as a short term
Lines of Scrimmage : 10/12/2021 2:31 pm : link
fix for Eli's last two years. The market for even average LT's is insane and unfortunately the miss on Flowers put them in that position. It has failed miserably.

This year he was supposed to be a back up and unfortunately Peart was not ready.

When you drafted as poorly as the Giants had for years you are forced to take risks to overcome the picks. Very difficult to overcome that reality.

You're only "forced" into doing that if you refuse to acknowledge the reality that you're not a contender and won't be without a rebuild.

what Solder and Peart are at this point, even to a casual fan, I’d blatantly obvious. Our organization has ZERO ability to self scout. If they leave Solder as the starter (or even give him reps over Peart) it’s more evidence of the organizational dysfunction. This is suck an easy decision to make it’s laughable. So let’s see what they do. I’m all prepared to hammer the crap out of them. I just have a feeling that they are so rigid and so set in their ways, Judge is so arrogant about how he does things, that I can see him fucking up this decision.
Anyone questioning Right vs left
jvm52106 : 10/12/2021 2:42 pm : link
is missing the more obvious issue- Solder has ho ability to win with strength, especially his lwoer body. So when he engages it isn't Right tech vs left tech it is just his inability to physically hold up in a battle of strength, especially lower body. He flat out got run over and his footwork is (as Bobby said) baby deer like. He looks awkward and just gangly out there. When you make Randy Gregory look like Charles Haley, you are done.

+1. He looks noticeably leaner and his bend is all but gone. Let’s all remember he’s 6’8” and lost most of athleticism. He’s standing upright it’s very hard to win with zero leverage when your that tall. I’m still stunned he beat out Peart in camp. I can only imagine the issues Peart was having.
a tangent here, but since Randy Gregory was mentioned:

Wow...just as easy as that? I agree that Solder is not NFL caliber anymore. And I also saw Peart, who played decently, still bending and lunging. Is he better than last year - somewhat. He picked up the stunts well - that is really important.
The only question is whether he is better than Solder and I'd have to agree he looked better, much better.

There was no need to criticize the staff. They have legit reasons for what they do and it is not because they are arrogant. You do not know if Peart's back was still and issue or if he was not getting it done in practices.
Gregory
richinpa : 10/12/2021 3:15 pm : link
Is he that good or like someone said, just got out of prison and is in a contract year too?

Solder does not have the strength at his age and skill to run with the big boys anymore. He is over matched most weekends and we usually help him when at RT

We have heard all week to play Peart if Thomas can go at LT , at RT. Not sure what or why this isn't happening but another Judgeism that you have to say....does this guy watch the films?

The everyday fan can see its an issue of epic size at this point
Watching Solder play LT/RT
PwndPapi : 10/12/2021 3:20 pm : link
these last three years, it's hard to believe he was ever a starting tackle for a professional championship-level organization.

Calling him a speed bump is being kind. Most traffic slows down when approaching speed bumps. Solder is more like an HOV lane.

He's been pretty good since almost washing out of the league and getting suspended for weed a lot.

He's not "Bull rush through a veteran tackle like he's prime LT" good.

If you watch Bobby Skinner's OL reviews, Solder has struggled against bull rush moves all year.

1-4, dozens of injuries, and a brutal schedule.
It’d be derelict to NOT start Peart or someone else at RT, with NS pitching relief for a series.
I watched a fair amount of Pats games with Solder starting.
BigBlueNH : 10/12/2021 5:40 pm : link
I believe he has lost significant strength since his early years. He would use his length to just pancake shorter/smaller players, and had the athleticism to not get beat around the edge. I'm not sure when he lost it (perhaps his last season in NE), but now he lacks both strength and athleticism. The result is what we saw Sunday.
Solder has very little left in the tank
SomeFan : 10/12/2021 5:56 pm : link
I don't think he gets better.
Regarding Gregory
BSIMatt : 10/12/2021 6:19 pm : link
Had Thomas played the only way we would have heard Gregory’s name mentioned would have been on those stunts where he looped through LG/C area.

Solder made him look like Myles Garrett, he’s good at beating up on bad tackles that much I’ll give Gregory.
Also
BSIMatt : 10/12/2021 6:21 pm : link
Judge already said this week that Thomas, Solder and Peart are all going to play going forward, so Peart will continue to get reps going forward, hoping this is the transition towards full time RT.
Just start Peart from here on out.
SFGFNCGiantsFan : 10/12/2021 7:05 pm : link
Solder sucks & Peart could use the reps & experience. And @ this point...who the fuck cares? We're going nowhere. Let Peart take his lumps.

Peart

Threw out his back in the off-season, had covid last season. Just think he is finally getting healthy. Played at UConn, the pick was expected to take time to develop. No off-season last year, and poor o line coaching didn’t help him.. think sale is doing a good job and if his back woes are behind him we can see more of what we saw glimpses of pre covid

What's your fucking problem? What a fucking douchebag.
Just curious about Peart
giantstock : 10/13/2021 1:40 pm : link
I am not arguing. But if Peart is starter going forward and looks like he should be- does this mean that now opposing teams will start using their best pass rushers to attack Peart and maybe in this game why Peart looked as good as he did was because Dallas focused much of their best at the left side?

Off the top of your head, how many NFL coaches actually played football at a college level you would be satisfied with?
