Don't even start to discuss individual:
draft picks
FA signings
coaching hires
GM hires
injuries
ECT.
Look at this picture from the highest possible orbit.
There is only ONE POSSIBLE CONCLUSION.
The NFL has left the people running this franchise behind.
When they fire people or have press conferences and issue vague statements like...
"There is no mandate to make the playoffs I just want to feel like we are moving in the right direction when we walk off the field after the last game"
With all due respect Mr. Mara, that is a bunch of bullshit.
This franchise is the laughing stock of the NFL to the fans and media.
It is the fault of ownership.

You can't fire the owners
We are fucked.
Our only hope is that John has some serious self reflection and removes himself from football decisions beyond hiring a new GM. And that process needs to be handled by someone not family, or from the "circle of trust".
Or Tisch finds a Mara who's eager to get out and is able to break the 50/50 ownership
This.
I don't doubt he loves the Giants and hates losing. But until he realizes that they need football people making football decisions, this will continue. John Mara loves football and has spent all his life around it, but he is not a football guy.
Don't forget Sandy!
You mean when Reese passed on Lavonte David and Bobby Wagner to take David Wilson?
Quote:
They decided winning the lines and the physical battle wasn't needed for success. Here we are now still living with this fact that has yet been corrected.

Wilson
Randle
Hosley
JPP of TE's
Mosley
McCants
Kuhn
The drafts get worse thereafter as well.
19-50
This. When they won a Super Bowl with a cobbled-together line, they didn't think it was a priority anymore and that they could coach up middling talent. Reese thought that the "future" of the NFL was a faster, more finesse game - which is true to an extent, but no evolution of football will ever dislodge the fact that for sustained, winning football, you need to build from the lines out.
I'm tempted to try the "everything's fine! Think about all, the rings we have" approach over on nyyfans just to see how well it plays
On the DL, you had tomlinson with the 2nd pick in 2017, Hankins and Moore were 2nd and 3d round picks in 2013, Bromley 3rd round pick in 2014
Signing Schwartz, drafting Flowers, passing on Tunsil, over-drafting Pugh, letting Linval Joseph walk, etc, etc.
There is plenty of ineptitude to go around but let’s face it, a lot of bad luck as well. The NYG careers of the following players were all cut short or altered. Nicks, Cruz, Wilson, JPP, Beatty and (because he was too much of an asshole) Beckham. More recently I would include Shep and Barkley in this group as they’re undeniably talented players whose careers are looking like they may never get off the ground here.
Ben McAdoo caused another big problem. It is my feeling that they never should have hired him in 2016. That said, on some level I understood their reasoning and who didn’t think we had our coach when we played all our guys and beat Washington that last week of the 2016 season. It was a McAdoo love fest. I’m sure Mara felt it too. Who saw 2017 unfolding the way it did? Is it anyone’s fault, other than McAdoo, that he seemingly completely changed going into year 2 turning into an incompetent douchebag complete with slicking back his hair?
That leads us to Pat Shurmur. Awful hire. Waste of 2 years. Can’t believe he was ever considered for the job, and probably the biggest and most obvious mistake of both Mara and Gettleman in recent years.
So it’s really worse record wise since right after Sandy.

6-2. Those teams always lost when they were 6-2.
Fish rots from the head. Hopefully Mara recognizes that. One can only hope.
Ugh.
Cool.
The return on my time investment is no longer sufficient.
Mostly disappointment for 10 years.
Not sure any other team has had a similar experience.
Not sure any other team has had a similar experience.
You have to wonder how much that contributes to ownership's general outlook on the franchise.
Since winning Super Bowl XXI, the Giants have only been to the playoffs 12 times, which is bad, but four of those resulted in trips to the Super Bowl.
It's great that they've been able to get on a heater a few times, but getting to the Super Bowl 1 out of every 3 times you make the playoffs isn't a sustainable model.
Mediocre since when though? Starting in the mid 60s I'll assume you are referring to.
I'm thinking right now, how many franchises would you say aren't mediocre? Over that same period.
Patriots
Steelers
Cowboys
Green Bay
You could even argue some of those I guess.
I guess we'd need the full W-L of every team.
