Indication that Daniel Jones won't be available this week

Eric from BBI : Admin : 10/12/2021 9:13 pm

@DDuggan21

Giants practice squad protections this week:

QB Brian Lewerke
WR Dante Pettis
OL Korey Cunningham
DL David Moa

Had to protect Lewerke since he becomes QB2 if Jones isn’t cleared for Sunday.

— Missed 2 games in 2020 to injury.
— Already likely to miss a game in 2021.

This is a concern.
I’d be surprised

But, I can't see him being cleated and he may miss more than this week.

this is football not ballet. you have 200+ lbs human beings running into each other at speeds of over 15mph. People get hurt. Eli manning was lucky, 98% are not. This isn't a situation where Daniel Jones has a crazy amount of pressure on his muscles. He sprained his ankle, he got hit in the head and he tweaked his hamstring. Shit happens

QBs that need to run to be successful tend to get hurt.

Let him sit until Thomas gets healthy. I'm not a Jones fan, but I'd be cool if we gave him another year and didn't waste our 2 1sts in a terrible QB draft.

This is a ridiculous take. No QB is sliding in the situation he was in. He didn't get hurt because he didn't slide.
The wobbling made it look bad
Giants73 : 10/12/2021 9:44 pm : link
But him getting up immediately and trying to get back the huddle, probably added to the way it looked on the field. Seen this a few times during our HS games. It’s 50/50 if it turns out bad or not. Some of the worst looking ones have zero effect an hour later. Giants should know at this point whether he will be playing or not. Could be playing possum?

Yeah, it's happening too fucking often.
I believe the protocol would only clear him Sat (?) so they have to
Eric on Li : 10/12/2021 10:00 pm : link
move forward as if any concussed player isn't playing until they clear the protocol. So I'm not sure this is an indication of anything other than the fact that he's in the protocol and they don't control when he gets out.

As much as I hope they are careful with him let's remember the best thing would be that he's cleared from the protocol because that means as bad as it looked it may not have been anything beyond a typical concussion and that he's had no problematic symptoms.
Makes sense
Sneakers O'toole : 10/12/2021 10:10 pm : link
Concussion protocols are out of the team's hands, he has to be cleared by a third party. They have to operate as if he isn't there.

Rodgers and Roethlisberger come to mind as two that have had several injuries and missed games in a lot of seasons. Stafford was hurt in his first two years missing time then played like 6 or 7 seasons in a row without missing a game.

Who gives a shit if he doesn't play or not? Jones record as a starter is 9-22. That is 7 layers below pathetic.

Wins? Wins you say? It's not as if that happens much when Jones is starting QB. Cool. He'll have a good game every once in a while but good frigging grief.

Yeah, if we just had a better qb in those 31 games we’d probably be 22-9 and have a couple trips to the playoffs. Good to know Giants are just one player away.

What are we missing here? He's not exactly a difference maker, nor does he put points on the board. Also as mentioned above, not the smartest thing to lean into a LB as a runner.

Seriously... what has changed since draft nights when journalists and football executives were like WTF ? Three years have passed and were still waiting to see if gettle was some kinda closet genius who saw something no one else did.... but it’s becoming obvious gettle was just a moron who screwed up an important pick on a guy with a pea shooter arm and not much else.

I loved Eli, I was in his corner when many were not. I however do get annoyed with the inconsistencies by which Jones is judged as compared to Eli.

We heard often when the Giants stopped winning with Eli how the Giants ruined the last half of his career.

With Jones we hear how he can’t elevate his teammates to wins.

I guess my criticisms of Eli are based more at those posters who gave Eli a pass for some of the things used to debase Jones

Yes I get Eli won two championships, but there was a lot of losing with him too. He never gets blamed for the losing by some that hold Daniel to a different standard

Pus what I stated is true, Eli s streak was remarkable, but he never put his body out there to make a play like Jones, true or not.

I m not saying he should have either, but that s part of Daniel s game. He sa great athlete that plays with physicality, and he gets bashed for it here.

I loved Eli, and I am 100% behind Daniel too
the "he should slide" comments are ridiculous.
Victor in CT : 10/13/2021 7:45 am : link
nobody is sliding at the goal line. middle of the field? definitely. In that spot he and anyone else are going for the TD. He's trying to score and lead his team.

You really don't get how someone in the twilight of their career who you have to pay 10s of millions to should be judged a little different than a rookie?

Firstly the line has been awful for how long now? Second, Eli's #1 receiver was Shep a really mediocre and over paid player and before that a total headcase Odel who lost a step along the way. Every year they sign some free agent to get Jones "weapons" to the tune of 10s of millions of dollars and every year for 2 years now, it has been the same shit of bad red zone / few TDs and a lot of L's in the losses column.

If you were really serious about Eli you would have drafted Qneton Nelson and signed some free agent wide out for him. And yea I would think spending a draft pick on protecting Eli -- someone who may have lost a step in the pocket is a littl more reasonable to me than a rookie who is supposedly mobile but can't run and throw well. But that guy of all things needs a goldielox pocket to pass in ; needs a #2 running back needs this and that

Is he a bum? No. I think he'd be a good back up QB somewhere else. He plays hard, doesn't seem like a pain in the ass, he'll give you his best and is fast.

Sliding when your only option is to make the corner pylon is not an option. The play call was/is the problem.

If anything, once he knew it was going to be contested he should have thrown the ball out of the back of the endzone. That play needs to be a walk in TD otherwise it is too risky. If he slides he loses at least a yard and probably more. Still pissd that with half an inch to go and two downs that is a play they decided to run.
