Injury prone

kennyd : 10/13/2021 12:01 pm
I am so tired of hearing that term especially when it comes to Barkley and Jones. The term suggests that there is something wrong physically or structurally with a persons body. Having chronic issues with a shoulder, a hamstring, etc that are prone to recurring issues is what it means. It doesn't mean just plain bad luck. Barkley stepping on an opponents foot and spraining his ankle. Jones getting hit in the helmet with another helmet isn't "injury prone".

There is a difference between "injury prone" and some bad luck.

rant off
if anything barkely got attacked lol

his foot was down when the cowboys player kicked his ankle essentially
Barkley has been injury prone

Sorry but he has. Going into this season he has missed a lot due to being a rb excluding this latest injury.
whether using your definition or not, barkely and jones sure do miss
japanhead : 10/13/2021 12:48 pm : link
a lot of games with injury.

maybe jones will come back 100% from attacking a LB with his head this sunday, who knows at this point. but he's missed time his first two seasons. we know barkley will miss 2 to 4 weeks with the ankle injury, after missing 14 games last season and three the season before (where he came back too early and was ineffective for another three-four games).

i always used injury-prone to describe players who regularly miss time with injury. barkley and jones certainly meet this definition. as do shepard, ross and golladay. so, almost all of the offensive skill players on the Giants are injury-prone, whether there's something wrong with their bodies or not.

Similar arguments for Greg Bird for a couple of years. But eventually it gets to the point where the label is apt even when it's different injuries. Constantly missing time because of injury, either recurring or new and unrelated, is going to get a player the injury prone label.
Maybe we should call it

Prone to bad luck injuries!
Often injured players
Biteymax22 : 10/13/2021 1:57 pm : link
Tend to continue to be often injured.

At least with Jones you can look at what he was doing when he got injured and it was the same every time (running out of the pocket). Hopefully one day he can have an offense that doesn't rely on his legs and he can only use them when 100% necessary.
They're both injury prone.

Deal with it. It's amazing how far removed from reality some Giants fans are.
I can agree with this post
Jalapeno : 10/13/2021 2:07 pm : link
and still acknowledge that some are just injury prone.

Gronk when on the Patriots all those years was the perfect example of injury prone.

Maybe someones example of saying "bad luck injuries" isn't as wacky as it seems haha.

Injury prone might just be phrase that is common here because Holy shit our players are always fucking injured. And it is frustrating when you look around at some of the other teams who seem to always have nearly healthy rosters all year long.

I dunno. I'm far from an expert on anything as you know.
The same was said of Phil Simms early in his career. He had some

tough luck with injuries.

Where is your evidence for this??? especially in context to what the open poster is saying....

The ACL/MCL tear is injury prone? does he have a history of that is it something that come up every year?

Does Daniel jones have a history of concussions?

It's amazing how people on this board are so willing to throw shit out as fact without providing any context of evidence.

He may not be right, but he's definitely serious.
RBs in general are more prone to injury
rsjem1979 : 10/13/2021 2:32 pm : link
That's just due to the nature of the position - they are very regularly tackled by more than one defender, and there are very few plays that they aren't hit at all.

Probably a good reason for not using a #2 pick on a RB, but we've had that conversation.

As for Jones, while he's fast he's neither nimble nor instinctive in the pocket, so he's going to be subject to more hits than a lot of other QBs.
After a play is over
kennyd : 10/13/2021 3:33 pm : link
and you step on someone's foot and rolling you ankle isn't injury prone. It's bad luck. If he were to get hit by lightening would that make him injury prone? Semantics I know but labeling someone as "injury prone" because of a freak accident is ridiculous

Are you saying that Barkley is not injury prone?

Barkley looked to me like he wasn't looking where he was going.
I learned this lesson with Issac Bruce...
GMen72 : 10/13/2021 4:28 pm : link
Drafted him 2 years in a row in fantasy football...got hurt both years. That next year, I crossed him off my list. He had 2 great years with the greatest show on turf. Every year is a different entity...even "injury prone" players can get healthy. McCaffrey wasn't ever injured until he was...and he'll have healthy years again.
I wouldn't say Jones is injury prone
D HOS : 10/13/2021 4:44 pm : link
And Barkley's injury was a freak accident, not an "injury prone" thing. But I do think Barkley is "injury prone"
with respect to how massive his leg muscles are and the force they can put on knees and ankles. He's strong enough to easily hurt himself, in other words, it seems to me.
If it makes you feel better
Bill in UT : 10/14/2021 12:48 am : link
they're not injury prone, they just miss a lot of time because they repeatedly get injured.
