Will Ramsey shadow Toney?

superspynyg : 10/14/2021 1:10 pm
Sheppard? Someone else? Or will h e stick to one side of the field and who ever lined up opposite of him that is who he will cover?
I think the better question is

Can Ramsey successfully shadow Toney? I’m not sure there is a corner in the league that can go 1-1 with him.
I don't know what type of defense LA typically plays
Mike from Ohio : 10/14/2021 1:15 pm : link
but I would expect they will keep two safeties high and make the Giants and Devontae Booker try to run on Aaron Donald. With Barkley and Jones out, Toney (and to a much lesser extent Ross) are the only two guys you have to worry about breaking something open.

I'm pretty sure it is way too early to declare that Toney is uncoverable by an NFL corner. He has played exactly two impactful games.

That is TBD.

always overreacting is BBI. Let's not anoint Toney yet.
I suspect
Cap'n Bluebeard : 10/14/2021 1:25 pm : link
The Rams will play their defense and adjust as necessary. If that involves putting Ramsey on the opposing team's #1 WR, then I would assume that, unbelievably, that might be Toney depending on the status of everyone else.

But let's pump the breaks on Toney. He was phenomenal last week and has the potential to be something special, but one and a half games don't a career make. He needs to prove that he can do it consistently.

Let's anoint him. We need something here, man, cant we just call him our destined-for-a-gold-jacket receiver until he proves otherwise? We need some fun!

Ramsey wouod shut him down, in the slot, Toney may give him problems, but Ramsey is still one of the best corners in the league..

Reminds me of when Odell his rookie year wemt against Sherman

I think the way Odell hit the scene and the similar draft status of Odell/Toney has made a lot of us feel very bullish on Toney the rest of his rookie season. Agreed that we need to be more patient with Toney. Don't be surprised if he "only" goes 4 catches / 50 yards this week.

From what I've read on Reddit, it doesn't seem like Ramsey has been shadowing opposing WR1's as much this year. Could be wrong though.
If Toney warrants it
JonC : 10/14/2021 1:54 pm : link
defenses will begin to scheme to slow him down, and so far he's doing a lot of his damage in run after catch. If they slow him down on the underneath routes (likely) then he's got to start beating them downfield, and that's where he's more of an unknown.

I get the excitement, but it was one game and defenses are going to adjust. Then we'll find out what he's made of.

I would have Aaron Donald shadow whoever the gmen trot out at left guard.

If he gets tired, have him lineup over Solder.

Ramsey was just rated a top 5 slot corner in the league by PFF or one of those sites. They said 70+% of Ramseys snaps this year were in the slot after not playing it much his whole career.
Last 2 generational talents we anointed
Payasdaddy : 10/14/2021 2:08 pm : link
Odell and saquon didn’t turn out so rosy
Odell because attitude and injury

Saquon injuries and just being dynamic in some , but not all things
I find saquon sever.y overrated as a 3 down back
More of a shiny piece in a dynamic offense
Theme sound familiar?
Idk if toney is on their level but obviously he has some special in him
Let’s hope this horrid team doesn’t ruin him too
We have 6 of the top 140ish picks this yr. If we draft 2 oline and 2 d line ERout of those six, I would be fine.

Yep, he's the gold jacket ...

j_rud : 10/14/2021 2:16 pm : link
Ramsey has been a top corner for a minute. He's also really good at jawing/head games, and you better believe he's going to be trying to get under Toney's skin after he lost his composure last week.

I'm sure he will have his tough roads ahead. But it's good seeing a kid with attitude, toughness and an ability to get as much yardage as he can. We need more of these guys. Draft more Toney's. Sign no more Rudolph's.

How much was Diggs on Toney?
IF Toney plays AND IF Ramsey covers him
Dinger : 10/14/2021 3:28 pm : link
It will be a good learning experience for Toney as I would expect Ramsey to win most of the battles and to be trash talking and instigating, which has shown to be a weakness for Toney.

IDK, but a few of the plays Toney had him spinning around.

has played in the slot more this year than ever before in his career. He's lined up in the slot more than he has out wide.

Rams run a Cover 4 and the hybrid Cover 6. While fans will hate it, expect many short passes because the Rams defense is designed to stop big plays.

Was listening to Howard Cross on yesterday s BBK podcast. The topic of Golladay s injury came up and him not being able to play

He said, the # 1 guy is, and with Ross and Shepherd they are going to be putting a lot of speed out there

So, Bbi isn’t the only one overreacting

You can't bracket or press him. You can't stop him. Only prayer opposing DBs have is to hope Toney gets himself thrown out of a game.

Toney was labeled a bust on this board and DG messed up not taking R Moore. Toney is a unique talent, loved the pick, but teams will start to game plan for him. Let’s see if he can take the next step and do it consistently.

all due respect to Howard, but he's not much of a football mind. If you guys understand how an offense is built and how KT figures in so far, he's still the slot WR whose success is built on YAC rather than downfield routes. Being #1 by injury default doesn't count in my book.
