Judge when asked if he had Toney in QB room this week...

bigblue5611 : 10/15/2021 2:35 pm
"Nah"

Leonard: "Not yet?"

Judge: (smirks)

Would be fun and interesting to see Toney get some more snaps behind C with Jones split out wide, create some more "trickery" for lack of a better term.

Judge also noted that he like Toney not throwing on that play in NO, "earned trust".

Agreed. That's the second time I've linked a tweet of his today, almost feel dirty doing so...
I'm not a fan of sending the QB out wide.

I know a lot of HC's do it, I just think you're leaving him open to take cheap shots. But using Toney as a passing threat is a good idea, I just hope they don't do the double screen again. Takes too long to develop. Just pitch him the ball, direct snap or handoff.
I know he's played some QB, but

that pass across field to Jones floated like a big balloon. I had about 5 seconds to wonder if it was going to get picked.

Agree. I’m not sure what the benefit is to doing this since he’s obviously very unlikely to be a receiving threat.

If you have a package or two for Toney as QB, I’m cool with them trying it. Give the defense more to gameplan for.
This is an unusual situation.

Jones is fast enough to be a legit threat if he catches the ball (big "if"). Does Toney have the passing skills to make himself a threat as a passer? Not clear. I think that's going to be more of a thing next season and going forward. You don't really want him facing a pass rush and trying to go through reads and progressions as a rookie. I think that would go badly.
He did line up at QB for that one snap

When was the last time we had a wildcat snap or anything similar? I can't recall if I had ever seen the Giants do that before. Did we do that ever with Geno Smith? OBJ?

if Garrett or Judge decided to use Toney at QB for a trick play, while sending their recently concussed QB out wide, and Jones got hurt.

Not sure what the team's plans are for Toney this week, but I'm pretty sure that Jones won't be playing WR anytime soon.

Why would Jones be any more at risk by lining up at WR with Toney under center? Do you honestly think that Jones would then be running a slant into the middle of the field?

There’s basically no chance that happens and a much greater chance that Jones just stands out there like a statue and does nothing. Oh, and if Jones plays then he’s not concussed. If he’s concussed he doesn’t play.
I wouldn't mind seeing Toney at QB inside the 10.

On a well-designed rollout, he's a huge threat to hand off, lateral, run, jump, or pass. We've seen just how well he can find 5 yards in places where hardly anyone else in the league can find them.

Well if then plan was for Jones to stand there and do nothing, then maybe it's a poorly designed play.

This simply isn’t true. He still requires a defender outside. Plenty of teams incorporate some version of this into their offense. It’s a version of the “Wildcat”. I do t remember ever seeing a QB getting destroyed while splitting out wide on these types of plays. Do you have any examples?

Given the state of our offensive line he might be safer split wide than in the pocket
