That goal looks to be on all three to me, but Trouba just looks bad tonight.
Miller doesn't look great either.
What should Trouba have done there? Serious question. Miller had Dvorak, Trouba had Anderson, the trailer (Drouin) is the responsibility of McKegg.
First off it's a good play by Dvorak and Drouin, I think you need to give them some credit, but Miller either needs to follow (and catch Dvorak) behind the net or cut across the net to play him, but McKegg leaves Drouin to play Dvorak (and that's Miller's guy).
The last one who could have done anything on here IMO is Trouba.
This clip shows the play a little better. I think this is 100% a good play by the Habs, but if you need to fault someone it's Miller and McKegg. If Trouba leaves Anderson it should be to play Dvorak before he skates around the net, but you know as soon as Trouba leaves Anderson to go anywhere you know Anderson will score the goal and everyone would say why is Trouba out of position.
Lafraniere looks much better than last year. He looks faster.
Lundkvist looks fine not great yet.
Need Kakko back.
Kreider will have 20 goals in 15 games, finish the year with 28.
Shesterkin won that game.
Pj sucks.
Lundkvist struggled IMO. It's funny, people complain about Trouba who I thought after Fox was the best defenseman on the ice - either team.
For MTL I love Romanov's potential but he struggled in many of the same ways as Miller - panicky with the puck and turned it over. Shaky positioning. Poor gap control.
It's just great though to see 21 year olds getting so much ice time. I'm sure those two (Miller and Romanov - and Caufield) played against each other for many years internationally
You certainly know hockey better than I do, but I watch Trouba play all the time and I gotta say I just don't see it. He's slow, almost never gets his shots on net, and seems make bad decisions all the time.

I agree that Lundkvist didn't do much.
I like all the American players.
and it might be cliched but Trouba plays the "hard minutes".
Even with the hard minutes he was top 40 in the entire NHL in net expected goals against RAPM (Fox was 7 or something like that but against lesser competition)
He's not Chelios out there for sure, but IMO he's a legit NHL top pair D, but those guy always get shit on.
I think the Rangers are are on the verge of being a competitive team. Shesterkin was the best player not the ice and the new guys are changing the way the Rangers can play.
I think people are too tough on Trouba because he's over paid but with the makeup of the team and the defense pairings his size and toughness is needed.
I think the Rangers are their Butch Goring away from being a playoff team. I mean a 2nd line center who compliments the 1st line center and makes the 2nd line a matchup problem.
I know none of you do but I want Eichel. I'm offering Miller, Lundkvist, Chytil and Barron plus a #1 if the Sabres take back 3 of the 10 million. Who says no?
Then I'm calling up Jones and Schneider (that's a playoff winning pair in my opinion) and putting Nemeth with Trouba as the 2nd pair and Jones with Fox on the power play.
The Rangers have more young defensemen than they have spots and Eichel needs a change of scenery and he would get to play with Panarin (who looks out of sorts so far) and Kakko.
on Eichel and BUF said they wouldn't retain salary from the Eichel contract and that's where the call ended.
They did say they'd take a contract back but not retain salary (no clue why, seems silly to take a bad contract but not retain salary unless there are some cap implications I am not aware of with retaining salary - maybe recapture or something like NSH with Weber).
Well if that's the case the Rangers have a few of those they could

Fox is getting the hard minutes now.
I think Trouba and Miller are a poor pair. They don't complement each other well.
I think Trouba is a great #3 dman. I don't like him on the top pair. I think he's very good, but thought he sucked last night.
Mentioned it in April/May, but I thought his play last season really took a dive the last 15 - 20 games or so, giveaways, awareness, and losing sight of his checking responsibility. Happened to coincide with Trouba being out (concussion, I think), so whatever rhythm or confidence he had before that seemed to go up in smoke with new d partner, or fatigue, or games' intensity down the stretch.
On that goal last night, McKegg, Hunt, and Reaves, big chunk of your 2021 Rangers' grit. Hard for me to assign fails to the d based on that short clip alone.
Think guys are pressing for too much from Lundkvist too soon (I make the counter arguments for Giants rookies/2nd year players who underperform, Ojulari, McKinney, more DG 2nd R fails)? Tinordi is a disaster (more grit, thanks, Drury), and I think it was fairly broad consensus that Lundkvist's game in his own end needed work.
He has high value and the Rangers have a lot of promising young D. They can't keep them all. Trade Miller too. Don't be the Yankees and hang on to them until they lose all of their value. There are more in the pipeline close to being ready.

You have a much higher assessment of Jones than I; Schneider, haven't seen enough to make any assessment. Rangers are scoring challenged; you'd trade Lundkvist having played all of 3 games in the NHL. I'm not saying you're flat out wrong, it's just way too early to know what the team has. They need help scoring and from point on PP; he has excelled there, his steadiness as d-man is what's in question for me and he's barely started.
I did see the two Ranger goals as they happened and the lopsided shots on goal totals. I heard Igor was lights out in the 2nd period and stole the game? Two good road wins in a row.
I think this is what we'll see from MTL a lot this year.
yes, way too long, home opener though for the Habs.
they make a show out of everything in MTL.
At least you get a pregame.
I'm blacked out here, similar to the way the Rangers are blacked out from winning.
MTL needs to stay out of the box. Refs not helping.
Kakko injured blocking a shot missed most of the 2nd period. Not sure if serious.
Mika missed several goals in the bumper spot on the PP

You don’t see the mental mistakes this team made last year
that's more on Miller
Yeah…he’s having himself a rough game
Miller let Dvorak skate around him then got caught in traffic.
Trouba had Anderson who he took out of the play.
The C or Miller need to get to the front of the net.
you can sort of see it on this clip, may be a better look.
I like Trouba's offense tonight.

Chitin played a nice game too.
Really hope Kakko is fine because he's been one of their best this season.
Miller looks like he's regressed a bit. Made several bad decisions with the puck tonight.

It's true, he got caught in the traffic, but his guy was taken out of the play with him.

He should have stopped a bit earlier.
I think the center is most to blame there. No one made a good play, though.
I agree that Lundkvist didn't do much.
