would fire him right now. The Giants won't. I think he's gone at the end of the year, but I'd do it now because as you say he might make additional stupid personnel decisions before the trade deadline, which is just a few weeks away.
The Giants are about to be 16-38 under Gettleman as GM. He needs to be fired TONIGHT. None of this “let him retire” BS. He hasn’t earned that. 2x SB champ GM Jerry Reese was unable to retire, so why should Gettleman.
FIRE HIM TONIGHT.
What's hilarious is that Philly traded Ertz first chance they got

Acid,
If I remember correctly, you were one of the few advocating for Josh Allen on a trade back. Man, if we had only done that.

I doubt it. My guess is that few, if any, teams hold the Giants personnel outside of a handful of players in high enough regard that they would be willing to give up assets for in a trade.

FIRE HIM TONIGHT.
What exactly would that accomplish?
It would accomplish not having someone incompetent running the franchise.

No. I wanted Barkley or Darnold if we stayed at #2, but that was before I knew that Cleveland offered both their second round picks to move from #4 to #2. I absolutely would have taken that deal. My pick at #4 probably would have been Nelson, although Allen and Rosen would have been considered.
I had questions about Allen's accuracy. He also broke the collarbone in his non throwing shoulder, which had to be fixed with plates and screws.

Oh ok, thanks for the honesty. For some reason I thought I remembered you banging the drum for trading down, and also being very interested in Allen.
Should be making the decisions? Unless you have your GM on hand right now, you can’t fire Gettleman until the end of the season.
WTF? Gettleman has no business running a neighborhood HOA, much less a NFL franchise. Get this loser out of the building ASAP!
I would ask this. Who is someone on our roster other teams would want with their current contracts? Jackson might be the only one. Barkley is always hurt. Engram can't catch. LW is grossly overpaid. Martinez is hurt.
A few weeks before the season started and he said paraphrasing, when he quit he recommended Reese as his replacement and Gettleman was really hurt and left for Carolina. Ernie said it was a really difficult a call between the two so when the job reopened he felt he owed Gettleman this time. The Giants don’t suck because of bad luck. The Mara’s have worked hard to get here.

repaying favors rather than hiring the most talented people will almost always derail an organization.

It was last year and I remember listening to it.
In essence, Accorsi felt guilty so he offered the job to Gettleman out of sympathy.

I mean, you just can't make this up anymore...
But Gettleman had a great run in Carolina while he was there. And could find Offensive Lineman and knew how to build a roster. Playoffs, Super Bowl, their best GM ever.
There was a guy on this site that used to tell everybody that...

That totally tracks with the attitude Gettleman came in the door with. He felt like he was owed something.
Nor do I, but EA-for all the good he did with this organization in laying the groundwork for multiple Super Bowl teams-totally fucked us with the Gettleman hire.

Gettleman is making Handley look like Parcells.
Ernie couldn't have fucked us if John Mara had a clue how to conduct an organizational evaluation and legitimate GM search.
It's shocking how disconnected Mara is from the reality of the modern NFL.

Agreed. Still, it's Mara's fault for hiring Accorsi.
But because he's so entrenched in the "Giants Way", he knew "Giants Way" grad Accorsi would find another "Giants Way" alumnae to fill the open spot...
FIRE HIM TONIGHT.
Indicative of the backwards way the team has been run since 2013 - reactive not proactive.
HOG MOLLIES.

I still don't understand what was going on in Accorsi's head when he suggested Gettleman. Gettleman seems to have been a poor disciple.

then do something stupid like having him, Coughlin and Ernie ‘lead the search’

Do some research. He owed him a favor.
Remember, not every GM bats a thousand...

"I'm here to kick ass".
I don't want to relitigate this, but it was abundantly clear once Accorsi was hired that Gettleman was a foregone conclusion.

Alas, and too many of us know this, the GM-in-waiting is very likely Abrams.
He could be the answer - but I'm betting he isn't just because he's been in that damn building way too long...
