I haven’t posted in quite a while, but was talking about today’s disaster with friends and we were discussing whether this is the absolute low point in a lifetime of watching this team. Obviously it depends on when you were born/became a fan.
I started in the late 70s/early 80s. Despite the putricity of those teams pre-Parcels (and some of the crap teams of the mid-90s), this really feels like the absolute low point for me in terms of lack of talent on a given roster, cluelessness of the front office, and just hopelessness on the horizon. Of course I was only 8/9 years old in late 70s so it could also be perspective. I’d be curious to hear what the old-timers think of this rancid festering heap of shit in comparison to the early 70s teams.
An off-season of defensive adds, plus what, on paper, appeared to be a re-tooling of the offensive weapons + Barkley’s return … it all had me realistic but optimistic. I was hoping for a .500-ish season.
Even after two heart-breaking losses and an 0-3 start, I thought the team was on the fence and close to leading the division.
Today, I’ve pretty much resigned myself to watching for improvements, not getting Jones killed, and curiously looking out for what may be inevitable firings.
This is far from the worst team of my Giants-rooting lifetime. It is, however, the most baffling - starting with Patrick Graham and his toreador defense.
Very disappointing.
And they scored 40 points the next week and lost to the Browns 49-40. The offense was entertaining. Earl Morrall threw a 98 yard TD pass to Homer Jones, but they couldn't stop anyone Gave up 501 points in 14 games. Absolutely no pass rush. Lots of injuries too.Earl Morrall broke his wrist, Gary Wood steps in. He gets hurt, so they sign Tom Kennedy off the sandlots of Brooklyn. And of course they traded the number one pick plus other for Tarkenton. So they could not rebuild the defense. Wouldn't matter though as they were inept at drafting.
The 1970s had WRs lining up in 3 point stances LOL and it was harder to score points, the rules have softened now and we can’t crack more than 21 points consistently.
At least in 95, for example, even when 5-11, they hung in there with some of the best. They barely lost to SF, Green Bay, and Dallas. That team lost a lot of close games. In 96, they beat Dallas.
This team is so unwatchable.

and lost a game to the Redskins 72-41. Their one victory, 13-10, also came against the Redskins. That was the worst Giants team of my lifetime.

They had 3 non losing seasons out of the 5 Tarkenton was here. He made them a lot better than they actually were. But they passed on a true rebuild and on taking Bob Griese.
"How the fuck did we lose to these goons? And we made Daniel Jones player of the week on top of everything!"
What is perplexing to me is that John Mara seems to be falling into that same trap as his father did. Making hap hazard moves that keeps setting the franchise back. Building or rebuilding ass backward doesn't work. Are these some of the worst teams in my lifetime. Not yet. But they are bad, real bad. And if Mara doesn't get his shit together it is quickly moving in that direction and not far behind.
The 2017 team would definitely beat the 2021 team.
That's without OBJ, Sterling Shepard, and even .... Brandon Marshall LOL
My head hurts just thinking of the awful football in the trenches between the two teams. Does one year's offensive line make the other years defensive line look good? Or the other way around?
I think the 2013 team had the worst line out of any of the Giants teams, I thought. Good God. Will Beatty at LT?
That 38-0 game against the Panthers I've never seen a QB sacked as fast as Eli was that day. The Greg Hardy game.
After the first game of the season, I was already camping, heading to the beach, enjoying the outdoor beauty of upstate rather than yelling at my TV for 3 hours.
I refuse to watch garbage product.
The Giants are garbage product and have been for years.
