Finally the regular season is here and coulsnt come at a better time with Giants season imploding before our eyes.
Sounds like Noel is a no go for Wednesday but the good news is Robinson had no setbacks and felt good after his first game since breaking his foot.
I would assume he comes off the bench jjst to try and limit him a little bit.
Rotation as of right now:
Kemba/rose
Rj/quick
Fournier/burks
Randle/Toppin
Gibson/Mitch
As for the Celtics i have not watched them much, sounds like Horford will be out, Brown should be back in time from Covid..
My guess is they go small with Brown at the 4, Smart is their starting point, Tatum at the 3 and williams at the 5 but i have no idea who they will start at the 2. I really dont know their bench besides Schroeder and Prichard..
I went hunting with a friend yesterday and taped the game. Won't even bother to watch it. May retire my BBI account so I am not surrounded by negativity (whether deserved or not).
The Knicks however are deep and have a coach that works really hard. Even if there's regression this year, I'm still very excited for this team's future. The front office made sure that the team can sustain through the inevitable injuries that they'll get.
A lot of people say that Boston is going to be in the conversation for the 3 -5 seed in the east and almost everyone says they're better than the Knicks. I just don't see it. but maybe I'm just projecting what they did last year to this year.
He's all effort and hardwork without having one bone of asshole in his body.
NBA analysts also seem to think anything Boston does is good, example Horford and Schroeder, Horford is washed and Schroeder is just not good..

Other than that, it's going to be hard for him to get run this year.

Their bench five is:
Langford
Horford
Pritchard
Nesmith
Richardson
Kanter
Its not an awful bench. Juancho could fill in for a pinch as well too. I know Boston is looking for leaps from both Nesmith and Langford.
Schoeder is going to be much better away from Lebron.
I don’t see him playing the type of defense Thibs wants and he won’t shoot as high as percentage as he shot in years past
Thank god it’s only 3 years guaranteed and Leon will look to package his salary in a trade

Horford ia washed, Richardson was dreadful last year playing alongside one of the best pkahers in the NBA, Nesmith and Langford are conpletely unknowns..
I like Prichard, he is a gamer and i think he should be the starter with smart at the 2..
Problem for Celtics to me is Tatum and Brown dont make players around them better and that needs to be the next step for Tatum he can score with the best of them but his game needs to evolve into a better all around playee

I like Nesmith. He is kind of fearless out there. Horford may be washed, but Kanter can still score and get offensive rebounds. Always been terrible defensively.
I like their bench better than the Bulls. Who basically have a hurt Colby Smith, Caruso and fillers.

I like their first five. I actually seem playing well, but their bench is brutal. I think Vuc and Demar are great leaders and have no problems taking less shots. Ball is Ball and will get open looks.
But they will struggle if someone gets hurt or if they dont shoot well cause their bench doesnt do anything particular well.

My only question is how does Demar and Ball fit if Ball doesnt shoot the ball well, Demar is best with the ball in his hands..
They all have to take a backseat to Lavine in my opinion but Demar is nothing off the ball because he cant shoot the 3..
They are going to habe spacing issues especially in close playoff type of games..

No doubt. I can see Derozan be the de-facto point guard. Ball played more off the ball last year when they put Zion at the point. I can see derozan and Vuc playing a lot together and Ball/Lavine playing when the other two sit.
They are an interesting team for sure. They'll be in the playoff mix for sure. Lot of holes though in that roster.
They are going to be dangerous this year.
The east is going to be really tough this year.

I want to see it in close games when teams start locking down on defense..
There will be chemistry issues to start off the season 2/5 of the starters are new and trying to figure everyone out.
I don't think Fournier will drop in performance at all. He has been a consistent shooter his whole career and once they get the spacing right he will get a ton of open looks.
I am predicting a disappointing year for Lamelo. He has flair that makes the highlights, but he still doesnt shoot it consistently for me. I think Scary Terry is a much better player.

struggling a bit with his shot over 4 games means nothing. He's a "lock" to shoot 36+% from 3. Wouldn't shock me to see one or more of the new guys struggle initially shooting-wise at home. Happens to some guys at MSG.

Only thing I'd note with Fournier, is despite his career 3 point %, he's had full seasons where he was more "good" than great. 2016-2017 he shot 35.6% from 3, 2018-2019 he shot 34% from 3. Generally speaking, truly elite shooters don't have full seasons where they shoot that far below their career marks. That's not a knock, rather if he shoots 36-37% from 3 vs. 40+, I don't think anybody should be surprised.
He was a professional athlete so the line was there and plus he had the resources to develop them.
I am more surprised they are not basket cases mentally with him as their father.
Ball's vs Holiday's. Who you got?
Quote:
is a moron but for all of the clowning 2 of his sons are very good (one with star upside) and the third one is still a potential NBA player. 3 NBA players out of 3 sons is pretty impressive.

Kinda besides the point (he's only 20). Considering his brother went from awful shooter to a good one, I have little doubt that LaMelo will end up above average as a shooter, with his undeniable skills will get there too. 16, 6 and 6 as a rookie. He shot 44% from the field, 35% from 3. If a Knick 19 year old PG put up the numbers (and shooting LaMelo did) we'd be going fucking insane and calling him Kidd 2.0

That's a great question. I'm very curious to see what Lonzo looks like as more of a primary/traditional 1 this year. I think he's going to have a true breakout season. I think LaMelo is going to be a true "top 5-10 at his position" level player. I think his rookie/age 19 season was underrated tbh. .93 WS/48, 17.5 PER, again if we had a rookie 19 year old PG do that we'd be losing out shit.

I agree with your assessment of LaMelo. He's got a feel for the game that is next level, even at his young age. And I also think that Lonzo can fit really well on the team he's on now. Surrounded by makers where he can be a 3+D distributor. It's a good fit.
But Jrue is a better player than both of those guys right now because he's a vet, a pro's pro and so well rounded. LaMelo's ceiling is arguably higher than Jrue (which is really impressive). Lonzo's ceiling probably IS Jrue.
The other Holiday brothers are solid NBA rotation guys. Both better than LiAngelo but not as good as the other Balls.
PS Speaking of Holidays, I did NOT enjoy watching Aaron Holiday absolutely working Kemba off the dribble Friday. That sucked. They clearly saw that as a weakness in the Knicks D and attacked it and it worked. Dislike. Unseld JR had a bad team playing hard. Good for him.
They will need to gel quickly and the center position is a big question mark until Noel is healthy and Robinson is up to speed.
Side note I got tickets for the Charlotte game on the November 12th going to make a weekend trip down there.
Suggs, Wagner, Hampton, Bamba, Isaac, Carter Jr, Anthony, + Fultz, Ross etc
He played like 2 minutes this preaseason. I think that answers the question.

He will be on the bench until one of Kemba and Rose misses time, which will absolutely happen at some point. But if both are healthy, he's strictly gonna be first guy off the bench high fiving players when Angry Thibs calls a timeout.
Barrett
Odi
Zion
Mitch
Nets will be a factor in the playoffs but Harden and Durant are not going all out in the regular season and their bench is old. Missing Kyrie is going to hurt them more than people wish to discuss and no Jeff Green will hurt them. Their defense is going to be horrible, they are slow footed..
Lakers i hate what they did this offseason, they basically made the same mistake as their first season with Lebron. Added ball handlers rather than shooters, Westbrook and Lebron dont fit, and their bench is old, another slow footed team..
Sure there can be some regression from last year. However just watch Friday night's pre season game. I know Washington sucks and it was pre season. However in a league where teams take nights off routinely, the compete level alone if this team will get them 42-45 wins.
But we saw that last preseason game how teams can take advantage of the Knicks attacking Kemba without a shotblocker..
I think it will take a litlte bit for Kemba to get used to playing off Julius and Rj to an extent, Kemba is used to the ball in his hands and it will be at times but Julius runs the offense when he is on the court..

Definitely a concern. I think Thibs will go to the second unit more early on if he has too. He trusts those guys. He made mention of that in his PC after the last preseason game. He knows it is going to take time for that first unit to gel. He said they just need to play. So, they will but if the game is tight in the 4th I would expect to see guys like Rose and Burks on the court and maybe even Obi if the situation calls for it. It'll be fun (hopefully) seeing how he handles the rotations.
He has trusted Rose whenever he coached him and Rose has delivered, but Kemba i mean that is cardiac Kemba he thrives in the clutch..
Will definitely be interesting
Unless they a firm commitment or even an extension from Beal, no way New Orleans is risking him leaving next summer. But Griffin does make some terrible moves so you never know.

Any chance that both see the floor together in those instances? I don't see a superstar #2 that absolutely needs to get those minutes.
I thjnk they could during certain teams but i worry defensively

It's going to come down to whether or not Kemba can defend. If he's a liability on defense, he's not going to see crunch time minutes.
Super pumped for Knicks hoops. LFG!
On the other hand, it is important to note that in the thread opener, Fournier is considered a 2, backed by Quickley, with Barrett the 3, backed by Burks, not the other way around. If Fournier struggles to open the season, it wouldn't be an upset if Grimes gets 10 or so of his minutes. Thibs was ebullient about Grimes on Saturday, and he will get some time as a really good shooter and excellent defender--already a better defender than Fournier, for sure. The question then is what they do with Quickley, who still tends to be streaky, but the Knicks would still love to see him show capacity to play the pg when one of the two veterans wears down or gets injured.
As far as McBride is concerned, the reality is that he is probably on the wrong team. I think it will take one of the two veteran pgs being injured and Quickley playing the point poorly before McBride gets any burn this year. That's disappointing to me, because he can shoot, handle the ball and defend really well, but it is what it is.
It's just fun that they have so much youth, so much depth and so much talent at every position--and lots of draft picks to help facilitate a trade for a star.
Last point: I think Thibs has become convinced to use a small-ball 5 at times, with Randle at the 5 and Toppin at the 4, or vice versa. Lumbering back-up centers would go nuts trying to handle this.
Grimes is not going to take minutes from Fournier, Thibs is not playing 11 guys, Grimes will take minutes from IQ
He is not ready to step in and get big minutes this year.
Let him develop
Definitely a good comp.
Hopefully he can take over the PG in 3 years.
Brogdon got an extension from Pacers
Grayson Allen got an extension from Bucks..
Deandre Ayton wont get an extension from Pboenix
Obi Toppin, Knicks: New York was trying to win on Friday and rallied from a double-digit fourth-quarter deficit with an interesting lineup pairing that had Obi Toppin at center. The Knicks have been reluctant to use Toppin this way and have three other centers that all have seen significant minutes. Defensively, this isn’t a great pairing, but offensively, it’s New York’s best lineup; it’s not even close. Toppin can put pressure on the rim like a traditional center but has way more perimeter skill; his ability to at least sort of hit 3s forced Washington into some uncomfortable matchup problems of their own. I’m hopeful we’ll see more of this in the regular season.
PROSPECT OF THE WEEK: Rokas Jokubaitis, SG, FC Barcelona, (rights owned by Knicks)
I’ll get to players from the 2022 draft in a bit, but this week I wanted to highlight the torrid start by the Lithuanian guard the Knicks drafted with the 34th pick in the 2021 draft.
At this point, European teams have already played several games, so we’re already getting an impression of who is off to a great start and who isn’t. The most notable outlier from the previous year’s performance might be Jokubaitis, who has exploded in the early going in his first season in Spain. Most notably, he’s been able to convert both frequently and efficiently inside the arc despite moving up to a more difficult league, hitting 20 of his 31 2-point attempts while drawing fouls at roughly double the rate of a year ago.
Some athletic limitations will always be there for Jokubaitis — he’s stuck on zero blocks for the season and has a grand total of nine in his six seasons of international basketball. But as a savvy midrange and paint scorer whose 3-pointer should be good enough, he looks like a really interesting rotation guard for next year and beyond. We’re still working in small-sample territory — he’s played 12 games — but his start is really encouraging sign for Knicks fans.
Running the floor more and hitting the weight room less may take care of it naturally.

I don't agree KD and Harden have never been ones for heavy load management and I think they have something to prove this year.
I think you have the Sixers too high
The sixers are going to implode on themselves this year.

Don’t know if it would be enough but start with Mitch and Toppin and not much more than that. Maybe a draft pick if needed but with heavy protections.
Unless it's Anthony Davis or a force of nature type guy like Shaq or young Dwight Howard, I think you're better off saving your big money for lead guards and wings.
Also why do i care about Jokubaitis having so few blocks? Like that is the thing he points out as an issue? Does he play ok D and not block shots, i mean he is a SG, i dont really care how many blocks he gets, lol.
Think of blocks for a guard like a leading indicator of general athleticism, strong positive correlation between general athleticism and guard blocks.
He had a blog, i think it was paid for by SNY at one point, made up rumors and pretended he had sources for awhile..
he says this wasnt meant as a shot towards Fred Katz and said he jist wants to get content creators paid..
@ThomasCDee
The Athletic not hiring a top #Knicks content creator to cover the team is pretty fascinating to me.

This. Hollinger might be a hater but in this case he's pointing out his defensive limitations given his athleticism. I remember when Mannion was coming out, this was used as an example of this... 0 blocks over 32 games in college.
If he waits and opts into his deal, his following max ends with him making 60 million

I'm glad KD didn't want to come to the Knicks. Personally I so much more enjoy the way the Knicks have gone about this rebuild. They are young and so much fun to watch.
They are going to struggle this year, they wont be a top 3 seed in the east because their depth is old, but once playoffs hit they will be tough to beat because Durant and Harden will play 40 minutes
How much of the cap do their big three take up? Probably harder to have a lot of quality depth with three contracts that size.
Quote:
he is coming to give him his vaccine, they have no depth, 1 point from the bench outside of Patty mills..that is awful

If they had Kyrie the depth eoukdnt br as big kf an issue but when you only have 2 now and the 3rd highest paid guybplaying is Joe Harris your in trouble..
Harden and KD can score 30 to 35 a night but who is going to be that consistent 3rd option?
People just made it seem like well they have Harden and KD still no big deal, they are still the favorites..
Yup agreed 100, i mentioned it earlier my 2 bold predictions is that neither the Nets or thr Lakers will finish as a top 4 seed..
