I had been pro-Gettleman, and I still think that with a couple of plays, this season is different. I also think it's been a year of freakish bad luck in a year where freakish bad luck isn't going to cut it.
But, if there is something particularly glaring/damning on Gettleman, it's the 3rd round. Getting Peart wrong (a decision no doubt influenced by coaches) is really damning. The freakish injuries aside, Peart was supposed to be the RT, and him not being up for the job is a huge miss. It's an inconceivable miss given the stakes. If Peart was there and solid, instead of Solder - again, maybe it completely alters the picture. The bookends of the line secure, would be a ray of hope, but nope.
The other are Lorenzo Carter and Oshane. One of those guys at least needed to emerge and haven't. If one of those guys had burst through even on a Markus Golden level - you could take solace in that as a fan, but not happening. Then there's the squandered 3rd rounder given up to Beal who barely clings to the roster. And now you have Aaron Robinson - and who knows. It's not the 3rd round, it's the Bermuda Triangle.
Forgot about him - good point!
Are you out of your fucking mind. This is the worst team in the league or at least one of them.
That mistake- which is also directly tied with staying with ELI longer and the fact that you then had to spend big $$$ on low end items for the Oline all creates the mess we see today.
2018 should have been DG's focused plan on his very direct words of WE MUST FIX THE OLINE and should have drafted (small trade down if you want first) Quentin Nelson. That guy is a stud on the Oline and immediately improves a line that needed the help. More focus on the core (inside out both sides) would have been warranted.
2019 should have been the year we moved on from ELI (even if it were a FA QB stopgap) as we continue to mold the roster and get a solid cap position in place. Draft a QB if you want or wait until a better crop arrives.
2020 would have been our year for major progress based on the foundations of 2018 and 2019.
Now we face a tear down again but we are hampered by big contracts signed this year with the idea things will turn around.
DG must GO. Judge the jury is still out on (but things are heading south at the moment) and Jones (at least for me) is starting to show that he may only be capable in a system of perfection.
Beal's in there.
