For ten years...a bad OL has been a constant

AnnapolisMike : 10/18/2021 9:19 am
In the wake are 3 coaches and 90+ losses. In the crosshairs now is the current staff and our 6th round pick from 3 years ago. Each year the organization has failed to solve this problem. It's ultimately the GM's fault, but maybe the coaching staffs have signed off on it as well. We really do not know.

All I know is for 10 years it has been a contributing factor to the mess that is the NY Giants. Until the Giants fully commit to finally fixing the OL...it won't matter who the coach or QB is of this team.
And Gettleman's most glaring failure

they are terrible. That and no edge talent since JPP left.
a great QB

helps you figure out the OL. There was an analysis of Tom Brady's OL, they all played like garbage when they went to other teams. A great QB understands their weaknesses and plays to the OL's strengths.
If there is one position to shotgun draft, it's OL
sb from NYT Forum : 10/18/2021 10:03 am : link
...draft a bunch and hope to hit on some long term starters, maybe even stars. Repeat until the line is good. Worst case scenario is you'll have solid depth.

With a good OL, every other skill position will play better.

Instead Gettleman comes in and shotgun drafts DBs. It's freakin mindboggling.
It’s not that the Giants
Jolly Blue Giant : 10/18/2021 10:09 am : link
Have not committed to fixing the O line. It’s just that’s they’ve continually failed at doing so. This is actually worse since we have used up a tremendous amount of prime resources in the process which has led to other parts of the team falling apart as well.
I guess Dave

Suffice it to say, neither side of the line of scrimmage has gotten better, despite what our GM espouses.

^This. We also still have no edge rushers and the secondary is a mess despite him spending tons of draft picks and FA money on that position group.

“It’s really apparent that we have more confidence in our offensive line than you guys do,” Giants general manager Dave Gettleman said on Saturday afternoon in a media session with reporters. “We’re happy with the group we have.”

They'll get the OL right

It's been the O line for too long

I agree completely with this post.

No Runinged back, QB or Receiver will succeed until the Offensive line is addressed.

That has to be the next GMs priority.

What a fucking cunthole. That he could be that smug after a 15-33 record really just says it all, doesn't it?

This was shortly after reaffirmed by Joe Judge. Until that moment I had been a big fan of JJ, but when I heard him say this, I was troubled.

His incompetence is bad enough but, combined with the arrogance he exudes, it makes him really easy to dislike.

You let me know when you have correctly identified a Great QB to replace Jones. The Giants have been to 5 Superbowls with good QB's...not great.
If you cannot control the line of scrimmage...

on both sides of the ball, then you are not going to win many games. It is that simple.

Fans get blinded by flashy skill players. It is not exciting to spend a lot of draft capital on the offensive line or DL.

If you go back and look at our first superbowl team. We did not have WRs that were the league's best. Joe Morris was not the most talented RB in the league either. The offensive line was the key to it all.

And on the other side of the ball, you had good and great defensive tackles and edge rushers who could stop the run and rush the passer. We used to be good at that, what happened?
DG talked a good show
BillT : 10/18/2021 11:32 am : link
But in his first two years combined he acquired Hernandez and Solder. That’s it. Almost unbelievable. Meanwhile, in 2019 the Rams (remember them) acquired two of their OL starters with a 3rd and a 5th.

Please be fair; he also signed Patrick Omaneh, an utterly trash journeyman coming off of multiple one-year vet minimum contracts, to a 3 year, $15 million contract with over $5 million guaranteed.

See! He's using resources!

Lets look at this bc there are a few things here -but i agree we have had a mix of bad luck and bad decisions

OK Hernandez has been a good tackle even better now without Solder next to him..

Solder was a stop gap guy to get the F away from Flowers..Traded for the LG who was supposed to be probowl Zeitler big disappointment. It didnt work and Omameih was terrible and the 2 guys sign in offseason flat out quit -Bad adds by the DG
Hoping pulley and or Pio could be NFL centers -poor planning
Hoping pulley and or Pio could be NFL centers -poor planning

Gate Lemeiux Thomas Peart looked like real NFL players until they got hurt. Extremely Bad luck. These 4 could be NFL caliber starters to build around and continue to add better talent as we go along -but didnt get the opportunity -So we add Skura Martin Price (who actually seems ok) and others hoping to find an unpolished gem.. who knows

How the heck can you build an ol with this mess.. I do blame the GM for most of the issues not being addressed and unfortunately some really bad luck 4 OL starters injured.

So Brady makes them better? C'mon....it's a cumulative effort. Play calling, coaching, environment.

I think Brady himself as the least influence. Brady needs his OL more.

Have signed secondary and wideouts over and over throwing big money at all of it. While they preach change with each coach they still do the same thing. It all starts with the trenches and the giants failed here.
