How many guys have we seen trip and fall? We've been down this road before, as much as I prefer grass, the stadium gets used too much for grass to be a viable option. Just find a better carpet installer.
That the NFLPA is pushing for all stadiums to have grass. The 49ers said our turf sucked last year and there was something wrong with it...I'm thinking maybe they are right!!!!
I thought they tried it at the old stadium but the swamp was too wet.

Remember watching the Giants/WFT game in DC? Guys were slipping all game long because the turf was so torn up, and they only have one team playing there! Grass is simply not an option with a stadium that is in use as much as MetLife. A game every weekend plus other live events is too much. Just find someone who can install the turf competently.
People somehow manage to have lawns in floodzones. They're not going to root the grass into the actual swamp; they can pebble/sand/sod the field with an artificial base.
Somehow they've managed to have natural grass at the training facility a few hundred feet away.
It's hard to see what the Giants and Jets did right with MetLife
Agree with the comments to blow it up and start over. It is a reflection of the team the Giants built - underwhelming.
I don't think grass will work there, but there are plenty of artificial fields all over the league nobody is complaining about. It's probably just a poor product/poor installation.
Met Life is not the only stadium with that turf product.
But some of these stadiums now have retractable fields for non football events.
Also are the high school playoffs still played there? That was one issue if I recall last time. I think if the only two teams actually utilizing the grass are the jets and giants they can manage.
what about the grass tray system like we had in 2000?

I think they play a few of the HS championships at MetLife but many of the games are played in Piscataway, if I recall correctly. And the sub-finals in each group are at the higher seed's home field. So it's not like there are multiple HS playoff brackets all chewing up MetLife; it's a few games at most, and those are all in the same timeframe, so that would be a perfect opportunity to bring in a grass tray on top of the regular field.
see the grass field system in Tottenham? how does this not exist in the NFL? granted the NFL beats up their turf a little more, but you can't tell me this wouldn't be a better solution? Tottenham Pitch transforms to NFL Field - ( New Window )
last year. It's the same type of field used around the NFL and candidly, around the world. It's strange that MetLife's field would be any more dangerous than any other field constructed by the same company with the same materials. No doubt natural grass is a preferred surface, but given all the events held at MetLife and the climate, it's just not a feasible surface.
This is a brand new turf. If it doesn't work at MetLife, its not
working anywhere. Look at the source. He might have been trying to be funny.
They tried grass in Giants Stadium, but the complaint was with the Giants, Jets, and soccer and it being in the northeast, there wasn't enough time to grow a decent field. They tried installing "trays" of grass grown elsewhere, but that field was a mess.

Makes total sense which is why I was confused by Boomer, but he did say he has spoken to people who say they are switching to grass. Maybe he is just speculating but he kind of just threw it out there and it was the first I had heard anything about it.
fields vs grass ... mainly because the game is really played in the stuff and not on top of it ... but the fake stuff is cheaper overall and cost remains the driving factor.
Add Metlife Stadium to the long list of things the Maras
have done wrong. We went from having a great homefield advantage with the stands right on top of the action to a metal box where the fans are too far from the field. Wouldn't surprise me at all if they put in turf that causes injuries.
but they had a grass field system where there were trays that could be swapped out, so they could take out damaged portions of the field and replace them with new grass. It didn't work, for some reason, and they abandoned it.
There are ways to do this, they're just expensive and Met Life probably wasn't built to accommodate some of them.
Remember that when Citi Field was in the planning stages there was an idea of having the entire grass baseball field be able to roll out into the parking lot, with a different floor or surface underneath it for concerts and the like. Obviously they didn't implement that but the fact it was on the table at all was interesting.

The NFL still uses a chain crew for down and distance. You could put a chip in the ball and know exactly where it is on the field. They're just too cheap or thoughtless.

I feel like the turf monster is the cause of a lot of injuries throughout the NFL. It's not like they can't afford the upkeep. If it is proven to reduce injuries, the cost is worth it considering the amount of investment in the players.
I do wonder why this technology was not more thoroughly evaluated during the construction of MetLife. The Tottenham Stadium referenced above actually has a field turf surface underneath the natural grass surface that is rolled in and out. I get it would have been more expensive, but at least you could manage the issue of overuse.
when we had the grass treys they were taken out for soccer games. Which is why the root system for the grass never established itself at the Meadowlands. So there were times that big chunks of turf would dislodge. Now with 2 football teams sharing the field it will get more beat up than lets say Lambo field in Green Bay. I also think that turf is laid over concrete or asphalt and than a padding of sorts is rolled over it. So for proper drainage the concrete would have to be excavated. Yankee Stadium from what I hear has a incredible drainage system under its sod which enables them to play shortly after a heavy rain storm. So if the turf is ripped out it will a a time consuming and costly proposition.
Step three: put in a grass field

Step three: put in a grass field
Build two new stadiums.
Two NFL teams plus mixed use for other events is never going to allow for natural grass.

You will slip and fall more, but at least your knees won't get torn up from too good traction.

With fifa coming in 2026 id expect them to start experimenting now tbh.

PLEASE!!!
The fans will need Indica.

Met Life sux
It was Giants Stadium in the early 2000s.
