Biteymax's Next Day Non-Emotional Thoughts

Biteymax22 : 10/18/2021 9:36 am
As usual my non-emotional thoughts from yesterday's game. Feel free to add your own, comment on mine etc...

Admittedly, these threads are getting brutal to write. This is going to be short, games like this just aren't worth going through and analyzing every little thing, train wrecks are best viewed as train wrecks....

- Embarrassing. If you're looking for a word to describe yesterday, that's it. Injuries or not you can't allow a team to walk into your house and just dominate you like that. Show some pride.

- Was this really ever a winnable game? Well I guess they all are, but the Rams are much better than us, I wouldn't be shocked to see them in the Superbowl this year. So hats off to them for just being better.

- We're going to have the conversations on organizational changes that need to be made at least a thousand times on this board in coming weeks so I'm not touching it this week, my views haven't changed since last week.

- Thomas went down hurt, but I didn't think he looked 100% healthy from the get go. Not that we didn't know this but the whole offense looks different with a healthy Thomas in the line up. Good that we have him, bad that he's hurt. This shows the importance of a good swing tackle. I hope his injury isn't long term

- Lets start with getting 2 good starting tackles before we think about a third.....

- I'll acknowledge Peart did settle down after his horrible first snap at LT

- Regarding the defense I was listening to the Carl Banks / Bob Papa podcast this week and Carl was talking about how tackling was a lot of "wanting" it. Without realizing it, I think Carl was on to something here he wasn't intending to get at. Watching the defense play the past couple of weeks I couldn't help but feel that they had no "attitude" or "swagger"

- Talent is one thing but I'd ask how many of you ever played on a very successful sports team? Did you show up to each game hoping to win? Thinking you had a shot at winning? No. You showed up expecting to win that game.

- It very much feels like our players expect to lose. Is changing that going to catapult us over the Rams with our talent? No. Would a winner's attitude given us wins over ATL and WFT? It very well could have

- Its not the difference between 1-5 and 5-1, but maybe 1-5 and 3-3

- Part of this, yes is the coaching, but it goes further than that. The entire building having the mentality of "maybe we won't suck this year" isn't exactly encouraging to the players. Day after day hearing things like "you guys have a good chance against ATL this week" or "Maybe you can sneak one out against Dallas" builds a far different mentality than "can't wait to see you guys go down there and pound Dak and Zeke"

- The unfortunate part of the current attitude is that the right one is really hard to build. The extended losing now has not only made players and coaches complacent with it, but front office personnel, people on the training staff, people in the cafeteria etc... It moves throughout the building

- How do you stop it? Honestly its hard and quite a few things need to go on. The first starts from on top. There can be no more "well, we had some injuries" or "we finished strong". The team needs to be held accountable for what it is which is bad

My ask of the team for next week is to show the fans you have some pride. Give us a reason to go to the games, give us a reason to spend hours listening to podcasts or posting on the BBI message boards. Carolina isn't the unstoppable force that the media made out to be after the first few weeks. They lost to Philly... Use this weeks embarrassment as a motivating factor, go out there, fight your ass off and find a way to win this game. Using some of Leonard Williams comments as fodder, I assure all 53 of you on the roster WE DO NOT WANT TO BOO YOU.

Beat Carolina, shut up everyone that's trashing you. Develop an attitude!

Leonard Williams comments to me were that of a LOSER. You were complaining about the booing.. Stop fucking losing and stop losing so pathetically.. The ohh man they booed us is just pathetic. What tough guy, what tough team would ever complain about that? That sounded like the words of a losing mentality.
Good points as usual, Bitey
Mike from Ohio : 10/18/2021 9:45 am : link
You can see here on BBI that fans have the same expectations for the team that you describe.

Beating a New Orleans team that is nothing special felt like a Superbowl win to many. Losing close games to Washington and Atlanta was progress.

The team and the fan base have come to expect so little from this team, that anything short of being dominated like yesterday is viewed as something to build on.

Getting better starts with having higher expectations, not pointing at injuries and saying "well we never had a chance anyway."

Williams' comments were a symptom of the malaise that hangs over this organization. He doesn't think the problem is that they need to play better, he thinks the fans should just be happy to pay a lot of money, have a miserable day, and then quietly shuffle to the exits while he cashes his checks.

If you were a shitty restaurant you would be getting booed via Yelp comments. The Giants aren't on Yelp so they get booed in person. Grow up, Leonard.
I actually thought the Giants had a chance in this one

based on matchups.

Rams ERs aren't anything super special, DOnald is the force to stop. I thought they would constantly double him.

The Rams OL isn't especially stout, I thought the Giants DL would be effective vs them in both run and pass.

The RAMs Wrs are not speedsters. I thought, put Bradbury on Kupp and double Woods. Or vice versa, make Jefferson beat you.

Didn't work out this way but I think the Giants matchup much better vs the Rams then the Cowboys.
I am thinking you need to get emotional

That's funny, because the matchups were the very reason I thought we'd get crushed. Sure, they'll double AD, but the Rams thrive off that. Their ER's may not be world beaters, but put them on an island with our OT's? Oof.

And then their WR's v our DB's. With the way McVay schemes guys open, I just didn't think we'd have a chance of slowing them down.

Question about matchups: how come the Giants have been lining up Ojulari vs. the right tackle and Carter at the left? You usually put your pass rusher against the left tackle and run defender vs. the right tackle.

Unless the Giants think Carter is their best pass rusher, that's a scary thought.

whatever happened to using your shoulder pads and wrappping up ?
That's what they're made for.
I think you hit it right with the team missing "attitude" or "swagger"

Too many nice guys on the roster. Need some players with "attitude" and "swagger".
From my point of view the season is over
larryflower37 : 10/18/2021 11:01 am : link
And the staff is dead man walking.
So my point of view has changed I just want to see individual players improve going forward.
Hopefully we will have a good season from the younger players and we have something to build from when we have a new staff.
I am no longer invested in this season from a win perspective and will move to a more casual fan.
The Knicks start up on Wednesday with hope for a good season.
I will watch every Sunday from start to finish like normal but with zero expectations.

I predicted we'd concede 50 points, and the Rams could have made that total. The thing is, there is just no potency on the offense, since the last three seasons. We haven't scored 30 points in a game in over a year now.
This is going to get dangerously close

to what I saw out of the team in McAdoo's last year.

First came all the high priced vets.
Then came the hard fought, tough losses.
Then came some injuries.
Then came the blow-out losses.
Then came even more injuries.
Then the team quit.

A lot of good points, right up until:

These are not "non-emotional thoughts," these are guesses as to what you are assuming is going on in the building.

Let's stick to the facts:

DG has not given this team a good Oline yet, and it's been 4 years.
DG has not given this team consistent pass rushers....and it's been 4 years.
DG spent $200M this offseason, and the roster is paper thin at Oline, a critical piece to evaluating your 3rd year QB.

All of the above is fact and should lead to DG's immediate termination.

Bitey, good job as usual, you have the knack.

Mike from Ohio, I hadn't thought of LW's comments that way but think you're on target and it pisses me off. These jerks make too much money from top to bottom.

I want to make this clear, the only reason I didn't mention anything regarding DG and the roster building is because I touched on it last week. I'm not shy about the fact that I don't think he's done a good job and should no longer be our GM.

On my comments about attitude, specifically the losing attitude spreading, yes there is a little projecting going on but it comes from watching press conference after press conference with coaches, GMs and owners lauding moral victories. There's been a loss of focus on the core foundation of a football franchise which is to win championships.

No, I didn’t think we’d win. And I didn’t think it would be as close as it was yesterday (and yeah, I know it wasn’t close).

The first play of the game was a needless hold on the kick return team. If you were the HC, and you spent years coaching special teams, wouldn’t you teach you kick return team not to hold on the first play of the day? Jones and the offensive line are bad enough that they don’t need to be pushed back by the special teams. I put that on coaching. If you’re on the kick return team, and you’re too fucking stupid to know not to hold on the first kick of the game - then get the fuck off my team!

And it all just went down hill from there.

This is a poorly coached team.

Anyway, thanks for the thread Bitey, as always.

It was 7-3 before Thomas left field.

I told everyone around me to watch Peart....as what he does will tell us how game will go.....

Edge raced around him, untouched....for a strip sack fumble and quick score making it 14-3.

Got several "thanks George, we are now sick".....
