In hindsight, coach really got caught in the fire storm that has been many years of terrible football and franchise building.
Facts are, he was the best coach the Giants have had in nearly 7 years. For one, he's the only coach to take his team to the playoffs after Coughlin.
Second, he had multiple players overachieving on his watch. OBJ? Never the same after Mcadoo. Landon Collins, never the same.
Sure his, team had some defensive pieces, but he worked very well with Eli as well. Speeding up his delivery, gaining a more efficient approach given the lack of o line. Would have been interesting to see what he did with Jones.
Oh, and side bar, he was the guy in the room who wanted Mahomes badly. Funny how the grass always seems greener until you actually get a close look at the "other grass." Facts are, right now, Joe Judge is all talk and no action. He stinks.

Meanwhile, Ben is not coaching anywhere in the league right now. Not even as an assistant.
He was QB coach for jacksonville last season, and is a "consultant" for Dallas.
So Jax did not want him getting his hands on the top QB in the draft... and now is getting paid to do something other than coach.
Wrong. Mcadoo was the only guy in the room ready and willing to move on from Eli. And it was the right move. Now, starting Geno was a joke. But overall, it was time. We ended up extending the time a few years and missed out on massive QB talents. Massive
What "massive" QB talents did we miss out on? The 2 best out of the 2018 class were Josh Allen and Lamar Jackson, and the Giants weren't taking either of them even if Mickey Mouse was our QB.
And maybe McAdoo was the first one to point out that Eli was on the decline, but it was a fair question as to whether it was Eli's decline or McAdoo's shitty offense. McAdoo certainly wasn't going to blame that.
When I saw Eli play his first games in Pat Shurmur's offense, I knew he was done. For all of his faults, Shurmur is a good offensive coach, and seeing Eli immediately going to his checkdown was all I needed to see. But you wouldn't know that from McAdoo's offense, because the checkdown might have been the primary.
newsflash: Just because Reese and McAdoo were bad at the end, doesn't mean you need to tell yourself they were worse than what we have now to placate yourself about the current situation.
Reese was a fantastic scout, but not a good GM. After he hired Ross and phased himself out as the head of scouting, the team’s talent level gradually declined to where it was at the end of his tenure.
MacAdoo was the beneficiary of a massive defensive spending spree and a proven commodity at DC. His offense sucked (an obvious step back from Coughlin’s) and he completely lost the team in year two. He was a failure in every way. I would take Shurmur over him any day as OC or HC.
That 2016 was loaded with talent and the 2015 offense, with virtually the same personnel, scored 427 pts. The 2016 team scored barely over 300. I shudder to think what that team was capable of if COughlin coached it. The last time Coughln had a team that was remotely talented was 2011-2012. 20 wins. 14-15 teams were comically thin on defense and the offense was basically Eli and Beckham and pray for rain, yet they scored pts. I wonder why.
That is a big "what if", no doubt. TC with that improved defense? Would have been fun to watch.
Roll that 2016 defensive roster against the roster we have on defense right now and tell me they were any more loaded than what we're trotting out this year.
That 2016 defense played lights out, no question about it. But if we're just looking at brand names on the roster, this defense should have been just as good. The spending spree isn't always a guarantee of success.
This defense needed Williams to play like he did last season to have a chance, without even mentioning that Bradberry hasn't played like a top 5 corner.

This roster is paying each of those players to do exactly that.

He was hard headed and tone deaf
And hasn’t been employed in the NFL as any kind of coach since.
Tells you all you need to know right there. Yet, people will hold onto the, “But he wanted Mahomes!” narrative like he’s some sort of misjudged savant. Nothing could be further from the truth.
Ben McAdoo fucking sucked. Period. End of story.
Coughlin hasn't been hired as a coach since he "retired" either. Nor was Gilbride. Spags had one more good run, and - shocker - his defense sucks again, because he sucks - it takes a really bad DC to oversee the majority of the worst defenses the NFL has ever seen, and somehow Spags has accomplished that.
McAdoo was not the problem. He may have been symptomatic, but he wasn't causal. He was a better coach than we've had in close to a decade.
First of all, readng comprehension, try it.
I said he’s never been hired as a COACH since. All of the others you named, have. Well, I mean sans Coughlin. Who is fucking ridiculous to even mention.
But please, go on about how he was somehow misjudged. Or whatever 🙄
I stand corrected. What a stellar resume he’s had since being fired.

Really? I don’t think it’s that close actually. JPP and OV were far batter than anyone on the edge now, and I’d take Jenkins and DRC over Bradberry and Jackson (although Eli Apple does bring that group down a bit). While maybe not as good as Williams or Dex, Snacks and Hankins were really good inside. Collins over McKinney and don’t even get me started on LB’s.

Geno smith played last night you know with his 200 yards passing ; his loss; his QB rating of nearly 100. Are you going to say him and Russ Wilson are interchangeable to now? I dare you to say it.
Is this directed at me?
If so, you are tangled up and making dubious assumptions...
Am I? Bellichek probably looked at a stat sheet and decided Brady was in decline ; drafted a garapolulo and ended up watching Brady win another SB on tv. This whole idea that geno smith gave you what Eli gave you as a back up after one game is bs. Proves nothing especially considering he lost just the same. The same argument could be made for Russ Wilson then
A horrible hire is on brand for this organization of late. Hell, I'm even souring on JJ.
Dak coming back had nothing to do with that?

Please let me know when Gilbride was hired.
And when you're done with that, please also let me know what your previous handle was.
There's lots of posters I dislike here and one that I think is "ill".
Followed me for months, filling every thread with the proposition that I was a Cowboy fan.
