Observer learned that Gettleman’s brusque management style – which had made him unpopular with some Carolina players from his earliest days as GM – had begun to wear thin throughout the organization. Some staffers also didn’t like how Gettleman reshaped the roster following the 2015 Super Bowl season, leaving yawning gaps in the secondary and along the offensive line that were exposed during a 6-10 campaign last year. |

Derrick Fox, agent for former Panthers wide receiver Steve Smith, said he believes the 25 years Gettleman spent as a scout – the last 14 with the Giants – did little to improve his interpersonal skills required to be a successful GM. And I think his lack of interaction with agents in the Giants organization wasn’t well-suited for taking on the general manager role |

Gettleman’s future is unclear. At 66, it’s unlikely he’ll get another GM job in the NFL, but he would be well qualified for a scouting or consultant role. |
Led the Giants to go hold that thought, he is coming with us!
This is the one decision that killed all others. DG is out of touch and completely stuck in a time that no longer exists in the NFL.

The bigger issue is that the entire franchise is stuck there as well. DG must go but the entire organization needs a tear down.
Yup supposedly Ernie was consulted to scour the earth. And with the fake out they went with the crony hire.
It was an exhausting search!
No one wanted to hear why, or what players he was responsible for, or why he was fired.
At least one person flat out waved off any criticism and placed it all on the Carolina owner.
There isn't another franchise in the NFL that would have even interviewed Gettleman to be their GM, while the Giants didn't even bother with a serious search before hiring him.

And his supporters would get very angry when it was pointed out that virtually all of Carolina's top players from that 2015 SB team were acquired by Marty Hurney and inherited by Gettleman. They really didn't want to let go of stating "He built a Super Bowl team in Carolina!"

but they refused to interview any other serious candidates and rushed into hiring him as soon as possible. Unreal.

Rsjem. My apologies for earlier man.
✌️
People acted like this was crazy...
It's called job saving mode, for many people.

But yet they're quick to say EA built Reese's Superbowl teams.
Hell, Jerry Reese did tremendous work when he was director of personnel. As a GM....not so much.
I'm glad you brought this up. I hated the hire because it was just another example of doing things the "Giant Way" when that way had failed for 7 years running. The one bright side was I liked that DG set a price on his vets on didn't budge off of it. Then he comes here and overpays everybody.
